My pessimistic outlook proved to be wrong (thankfully). Was there early and was very impressed by the attitude and willingness of both schools. From what I saw great examples of rugby being played in the right sprite.

The ARFSU website says the NZ tour group assembles on 21 Sept so the Churchie reps in Aust Schools should be able to hop on the School Concorde and make it back from the Churchie awards dinner held in the Casino in Monaco by then.
Still no word on the replacement for Dame Edna at Churchie when he takes off to the Reds U20s at the full time whistle against GT. This will leave a hole in the preparation for the Churchie premiership defence for 2015. Churchie posters seem very quiet about this amidst the anticipation of a premiership in a fortnight's time. I hope someone from east brisbane passes this script to the boys at GT, that they're supposed to roll over and hand it to Churchie. Think about it - an undefeated premiership on a plate if they want it, GT with nothing to lose and playing at home, 3 x Churchie Aust schools players playing not to get an injury and miss the NZ tour. A bit of GT niggle and some nerves and some HW done on the TGS -Churchie game for a few ideas and all of a sudden, who knows what we've got. Should be a great game.

It sounded like that NV v GT 14A game on Saturday was a cracker and played at an extremely high standard. I spoke to people with an interest from both sides and even a neutral observer or two the day after the game and it is always funny to hear the different perspectives on the same match.
Believe it or not, both sides seem frustrated with the refereeing. Those without an axe to grind said at times the ref did not let the game flow and the pea was blown out of the whistle at stages, but they thought the penalties were warranted for both sides.
Thought I would amalgamate the thoughts and views for a mini match report as it describes one of the closest games for one of the mostly highly touted under age teams in Qld on this forum.
The GT flyhalf and centres really stood up in defense and all but shut down the Nudgee centres and ball runners during the game. That was even after the GT in-centre was knocked out at half time and the substitute player also stood up. It was the best defensive wall NC had encountered this year.
It was knock em down, drag em out rugby. It was an extremely tight first half. GT had the NC forward pack fairly well covered across the park (except for scrum) and were probably better technically at the rucks and mauls but battled the size, strength and mobility of the NC forwards. NC also had the large GT ball playing forward covered throughout the game with two or three players crunching him almost every time. But then NC struggled on the GT kick returns with the GT full back constantly beating first and second tacklers.
The first try by NC with only a couple of minutes to go in the first half came from very good multiple phase ball that sucked in the GT backs into the breakdown and left an overlap out wide from 40m out.
In second half, the soft NC try came from a change in NC tactics with flyhalf running the ball himself off a penalty rather than usual pass to (the well marked) ball player outside him and over he went untouched.
GT did not drop their heads and continued to play strongly. Some of the much touted NC players went a bit missing compared to their previous games and it was surmised that they were not used to the physicality being thrown at them for a change and they started to do dumb things around the breakdown from the pressure and got a stream of penalties and finally a yellow card against them.
The GT open flanker started to make some good quick yards from the breakdown as the NC forwards tired and the GT try also came from a change in tactics with the usual ball runner going decoy and drawing defense away from where the ball went.
The last try from NC came from quick play and interchange between the winger and flanker flying down the left wing to put the game beyond doubt.
As said in an earlier post, after the game there were a lot of tired and sore boys from both teams, who then had to back up and play club finals the next day

I thinking ME has a bit of wishful thinking going on there! and I do think forum contributors have it a bit wrong in relation to Churchie. I know quite a few families from that team this year, and from all accounts they are not cocky about winning the premiership undefeated as some may think. They are taking each and every game and team seriously and this is why they are where they are on the comp table so far and why they should win.
Nucifora leaves for Bond but I heard Gilmore still has another year at Churchie

The best thing about this team is their willingness to prepare for all games like its a gf and take each game on its merits which is a credit to the coaching staff and the players.

Just to make sure we are clear - I know a couple of the churchie boys from old club days and totally agree, the kids in the team, imports and all, are a well adjusted group who deserve whatever comes their way. I tipped them at the start of the thread for heaven's sake. If I have an issue it is with the sheer weight of resources thrown at the top end of the Churchie show and I have disliked it at TSS and NC and BBC before too but now, with a full time coach who does nothing but rugby, it seems things have racheted up a cynical notch for me and i find it hard to take it seriously. Its not sour grapes - the team plays an entertaining brand of footy and so they should - every one is a rep player!! My sons are finished with their school sport and I regard myself as independent neither for nor against Churchie as a school but I'll call them as I see them and if this forum is about expressing opinions - there's mine.

Yes for me it is hard to associate schoolboy footy with its current form. I'm vhappy for my eldest to be out & into Colts next year - but a younger brother will be on the GPS rugby roundabout for some time.

In my opinion Harley Fox is the best player in comp this year. I have seen him play 3 x and each time he was or was close to man of match .
How did he make that covering tackle against BBC on Qld 1 winger in last minute of match. ?How does a guy that big move that fast. Impressive.
