Did some research on the "offending" school to check how old their players were.

Of the 24 players I know for sure to have taken the field at some point this year: two are currently 16-years-old, 14 are 17-years-old today, eight are 18-years-old today, and none are 19 years old or older.

Three players had listed themselves as older than 18, but I dug deeper and found out that they are indeed eligible to play.

Of the 24, there was just one player whose age I could not find. He is at least 17 with a very high probability of being 18, possibly even older.

Hey King
Do you know the age break up of the starting XV? The pie chart would look a bit different if the 8 x 18 year olds were in the starting XV.

I believe BSHS only has 1 x U18, 5 x U16 and 9 x U17 in their starting XV. Even the few bench players that have taken the field are U16 and U17. They've done remarkably well considering they would most likely be one of the younger teams in the comp.

On another note: Got to hand it to you, your predictions at the start of the season were spot on! You got a crystal ball??

On the weekend, the school used three 18-year-olds in the forward pack and two 18-year-olds in the backline.

Their full strength starting team is made up of two 16-year-olds (one who turns 17 in a few days), eight 17-year-olds (one who turns 18 in a few days) and five 18-year-olds who turn 19 in 2017.

They were alright, but I wouldn't say spot on. I certainly didn't predict that Toowoomba would lose so many tight matches, and I also didn't expect IGS to come out swing like that.

For Round Nine, I think Terrace will beat Nudgee in a tight match.

I think State High will phone it in from home and Southport will prove too fit.

I'm tipping BBC to beat IGS on the strength of last week's performance against GT, but it's certainly a risky tip. This could go either way.

Toowoomba should finish the season nicely with a resounding win over BGS.

Which would lead to a final table like this:

So you have seen/verified their birth certificates?? Or was just what you were told.???

I don't want to reveal my methods on here for obvious reasons, but feel free to message me and I'll tell you why I'm so sure that I'm correct.

Phil Lutton from the SMH is reporting that the ARU have instigated sweeping reforms of schoolboy rugby. Here are some of the highlights of an interview Paul McLean, ARU Director, found here: http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-union/u...-for-grassroots-of-rugby-20160907-grat3l.html

"If you put all of your eggs in the GPS basket in Brisbane and Sydney, we're not going to do any good."

"Maybe the traditional competitions are meant to be restructured so there's a better balance of who's playing who. They're the things that are on the table that are on discussion. That level of competition is very important."

"We don't want to be interfering with schools but with schools and clubs, that connection can be strengthened. It's easier in some cases with history, geography. But I think with school rugby, if you're playing seven or eight games a year as a 16-year-old ... at that age if you're not playing 25 games a year you'd think there's something wrong."

While I struggle to believe the GPS is going to double its season length or change membership status at the behest of the ARU, I wonder how much GPS Rugby will be affected by the changes outside of this competition.

If they increase Qld GPS Rugby season, there is also risk of injuries. Just keep same format, but have Qld trials later in season.

It will be very interesting to see how this plays out. I know the ARU are keen to have a bit more input into appointment of Australian Schools Coaches etc and that may just be the tip of the iceberg. I know there are other pathways but Aussie Schools is the obvious pathway for developing school talent and it makes sense the ARU would want to be more involved there.

GPS associations in Sydney and Brisbane may struggle with the thought of relinquishing 'control'. GPS rugby, and their 1st XV performance is, rightly or wrongly, a very important part of their branding and marketing/pulling power.

I am a product of a GPS school but have also seen other models where the season is extended. I am not sure about the 25 games mentioned in the original article, that may be too much. A home and away comp might not be a bad thing though. This is in place in many successful school competitions and seems to work well.

I don't think the answer to QLD's woes, and indeed the Wallabies, is to align their comp with Sydney so they are better prepared for the trials and therefore better represented in Australian Schools and Barbarians. While I am not opposed to it because it does make sense, it is not a 'magic bullet'.

The bigger picture consideration is do Australian youth rugby players play enough games to develop the requisite skills and game sense to compete with our rivals overseas? The answer would have to be a resounding no.

GPS schools often impose bans on their top players from being involved in other competitions, even Junior Gold, to the detriment of that players long term development. I would be okay with that if the GPS season offered them more games and therefore more opportunities to develop.

There might be exceptions such as 2015 when BBC went to Sanix. They played 20 something games that year but this is far from typical.

It may be that schools acknowledge that top end players, like top end

I read the SMH article with interest and optimism and I look forward to all parties concerned parking egos to the side and coming up with a system that serves the interests of the developing players.

After watching this years First XV teams run around all the boys and schools should be thanked for providing some great rugby for parents friends and students. I have watched all teams either live or on you tube play this year, and some teams 2 or 3 times and I have come up with my Class of First XV Team of 2016.

I have long been of the opinion that ARU are now reaping what they sowed over 10 years ago when they failed to put any real resources - money. planning or professionalism into grass roots rugby.

In fact one could argue they have been happy to 'hand over' junior rugby to elite schools because they meet all the costs in running those programs, freeing up all the funds for League recruits and management.

Didn't we hear early this year that JGC was being restructured with Schools taking over the 17's program.

There is little to no doubt in my mind that 80%+ of Rugby's problems in the country stem from the atrocious finical management we have seen from the ARU.

The way this sport treats its junior clubs is truly beyond belief and the ARU can spin all the BS they want about not enough games in Schools competition and bringing the schools into the fold, but until they get control of the finances of the game and redistribute them appropriately then it will all amount to nothing.

I wonder what this 'review' will cost and where (whose pocket) that money will end up.

Good to see ARU and schools reviewing and hopefully improving structures in place.

Looking at u15 to Opens in schoolboy rugby my observations that I believe have been an impediment to the future of Australian rugby are centered on:-

1. Not enough games. Many are only playing 12 to 14 games a year. Reducing amount of time to learn in the "heat of battle".

2. Because every game is virtually a Grand Final (at least in GPS comp) the emphasis on winning and reducing risk inhibits many facets.

3. The focus on size of players right through the junior and school elite programmes. It is easy to pick the good big player over the good smaller player. (Now is the big player only good because he can swot smaller players out of the way) But this is an age where bodies are developing at the most different rates. A behemoth will get the accolades, care and attention. We see it here on this forum where some schools get the man childs in for u12s or u13 and absolutely kill it. Eventually they come back to the pack in size and I believe are found wanting because they have only used size and not skill to get by. I think the narrow focus reduces the talent pool coming through.

4. Our u19 scrum laws resulting in a lack of development of front rowers through the school and junior club pathways. The Australian weakness in scrummaging at the international level stems from this.

It is going to take some strong leadership to push the changes required through the whole system. I can only hope.

Look, I think having no Nudgee Players in the starting 15 is harsh, considering the season they have had. In my opinion, way too many Ipswich players. I would have had Semisi at 13 and Ikiatau at 14. Also, not putting in Malala is a big call. I only saw 1 game Taulagi played, but in that game Malala outplayed him. Also, Nudgee's back row has been exceptional, particularly Bullemor. I would have him in there. In saying that, as an old boy I am slightly biased.

Agree with point 2. Can I also add that the coaching "Team" are now running up and down the sidelines yelling out instruction so the boys don't have to think. They are told what to do. I just don't understand where are the boys going to learn to make their own decisions and to try to chance thier arm in attach. They are coached to an inch of their lives and these teams (wobs included) have lost their flambouyance.

Braveandgame I think this is a very good side however a few thoughts. McNamara is the NO 9 for BSBS not Tafa. Secondly I have picked players that have played 5 games or more and it is for this reason I left out Farrell, Stanghon and Tweedy. However I think your side is a good side.
