Outclassed across all grades. Every team went down by double digits (except the woman who got the chocolates)

Ah we like chocolates! Not a bad game. Thought Brothers, like the previous weeks, didn't take all their opportunities, drop the ball when they shouldn't of, but other than that they are playing fairly well. I thought the score actually "flattered" Wests as two of their tries were from mistakes/intercepts, whilst Brothers "bombed" at least 2 tries. Both teams have reasonably good set pieces, however the main game (imo) is still Jeeps whom are way ahead at this stage. Better start to the year for both Wests and Brothers at this stage (better than last year!).

Jeeps completely "bashed" Bond, whom are a reasonably good team. The Bond 12 had a serious injury, a player whom I have watched for the last few weeks and one that I would rate highly in the comp. With him gone and the 2 losses to date, I'm willing to say Bond won't be in the top 4 this year. Uq were very loose against a gallant Souths and they won't want to be "bleeding" that many points particularly against teams like Jeeps, Easts and Brothers; or else they may be at the wrong end of a cricket score.

In second grade Brothers continue on their winning way, very similar to last years effort. Looks like Souths, Easts and possibly Jeeps/Wests will be the main protagonist in that grade.

My top 4: 1st grade Jeeps, Easts, Brothers & UQ. Jeeps and Brothers seem to have the greatest depth in the grades, and that usually turns out to be important over the season, particularly at the end of it.
2nd grade Brother, Jeeps, Easts & Souths.

Care to elaborate?

I won’t mention names, but let’s just say I have inside info that some players have been slotted into positions at the expense of others (who have been loyal, strong players for the club) merely because they have a reds contract of some sort. The talent certainly isn’t any more impressive.

More than 1 club I believe.

Good to see that the Reds Recruitment Manager is continuing to do what he does best and that is funnelling Reds contracted players over to Crosby.

The list is endless Toua, George Smith, Tongan Thor, Sam Talakie, just to name some of the star recruits of the Reds that just happen to roll out wearing a Brothers jersey.

Looking forward to the Pilecki/Shaw (Maristonian v Christian Brothers) clash tomorrow.

Nothing like going to Crosby and coming away with the chocolates.

I'd say thats where the list ends?? Smith played what, half a game? Toua is having his last roll of the dice and can't get a game with the Reds. Wouldn't he also have been with Easts (?) when Cordingly was still with QRU so maybe its something else?

I'd say every club has had a decent share of players parachuting in.

I would agree with that Beer Baron. Think Smith played two games (didn't win the comp. that year!); Toua, whilst he is listed in playing two games this year, was competent, but not a stand-out. The Tongan Thor, Brothers get every now and then and is a great asset (won 3 games this year without him though) and Sam Talakie I haven't seen at all! So I don't know what your griping about Bulldog....maybe the fact that Brothers have a winning start to the year.

The real test for Brothers will be May, when they play their holy trinity Jeeps, UQ and Easts. A good May and were on our way!

Generally speaking this doesn't surprise me. In clubland there will always be a coach/executive higher up than you tapping on the shoulder saying you need to pick this bloke because he's training with a professional team. I'm sure lots of modern player contracts even have clauses in them which stipulate their selection at certain levels of the game.

On the flipside of that, I remember years ago (2006/07) when Will Genia was playing at GPS and got some time with the Reds, thus missing the back end of the club season. The head coach of GPS at the time stuck with the incumbent halfback for finals who was a very very good player also and Willy G packed up his boots and never played for GPS again.

Good to see Zachy Lucas get some game time and the win with Sunnybank.

Was he the only Reds player from Friday night who had a run in clubland on Saturday?

No, I saw McReight ran out for Brothers. I understand concerns about ensuring these guys got some game time was a factor in them playing club over next couple of weeks. (Especially in light of Mack Mason performance for NSW a couple of weeks ago).

I guess the fact that the rest of the squad were flying out to SAF contributed too. THe U20 boys (except for Hardy who is covering for Daugunu) are staying behind to train.

Is Gavin Luka having a run with Bond? I know he is in the red's squad but haven't seen him have a run yet. Anybody have any info?

Harry Wilson has been braining them too for Brothers. He might actually be in a better position to attack the tournament as he has been playing consistent senior footy.

Yeah he's had a few games (first two I think) and played fairly well. Was too dominant against UQ and was penalised a few times for not pushing straight (bit of a joke really, as Bond was dominant and there was no obvious wheeling); actually thought UQ was working the Ref by "pulling" the scrum and hence not the best decisions by him (IMHO). Got around the park well for a big fella and had a few runs. Still finding his feet, which is fine and I'm sure will be a major player for Bond (and hopefully Brothers, when he sees the light) over time.

Would be nice to know if they are playing before this week's tipping is due. I wouldn't have gone the upset with Norths if I knew Lucas was playing for the Bank last weekend.:(

I guess if he plays 78mins the night before (which could have been the case if they put him and not DP to 12) than he doesnt.
