Slight correction to my earlier post Law 22 does not relate to regular 15 man rugby but to touch rugby which they now publish laws for on world rugby, hence it contains the comment ball in hand. Didn't know they publish laws for so many versions of the game, my bad.

Nevertheless I did a rugby coaching course a few years back and remember the instructor saying the concept of downward pressure is a league concept and there is no requirement for downward pressure as it is not mentioned in the rules of the regular 15 a side game, which is still the case.

I think he may have thought the pony chaser next to him was going to get to the ball and had the presence of mind not to knock it dead. Split second decision, reckon it was pretty good. Luckily worked out for them

Both teams need to be considerably better than that to even contemplate making the finals. Some solid performances (McCaffrey, Gordon, Faingaa, etc.) but generally very ordinary from particularly the wallabies squad members.

The flatness the teams have been playing with the first couple of weeks, disappeared tonight for a very similar brand of footy aussie teams have been playing in the past 2/3 seasons (old habits die hard?). There was a lot of side to side shuffling of the ball, players hitting contact to recycle the ball instead of winning the collision and predictable set structures played out in preset parts of the field. So much play behind the gain line.

Both teams are better than this, I’m sure at least one of them will fix it up. Anyway good win for the Brums

Lot of ice packs for players for both team and Rob Valetini in a knee brace but hopefully not too bad

Is it weird I thought it was a good game, tough strong. yeah wasnt free flowing but that's because the teams didnt let each other do that.

Best thing of the night, watching the post match, asking McCaffrey if he thinks he will make the wallabies, him saying I just need to make the Brumbies. and then beat anyone against me.. then Rory Giggle that they know he wont get picked.. but he should be 8 for Aus on form. What a gem :)

The amount of misdirected passes and drop balls was shameful from two teams of professional rugby players. Add to that missed kicks and skewed lineout throws (all from the Tahs) and it was a pretty ugly game IMO.

Well done to the Brumbies though, played to their strengths really well.

I enjoyed it and maybe thats because the Brumbies led the whole way.. But I wasnt think we sucked we both turned on the pressure cooker and that got the errors..I thought it was good

There wasn’t much thrown at either defense to worry the opposition, when anything was attempted it was played out well beyond the gain line so the opposing defense could just sit back and watch it happen. The forwards on both teams put in some industrious shifts which is a credit to them, but it was all very same same from all but McCaffrey. Both teams were desperately in need of a few players capable of winning the gain line battle.

Tahs desperately missed Hunt straightening the attack also taking the ball aggressively into contact.

Not a bad win for the Brums, they have shown they can attack, defend, grind, etc. their way to victory this year, just need to put a few of these attributes together on the same day and they will be a threat for any team.

Would you also say Jackson Hope was poor?

Powell had another huge game defensively. CLL also made a number of key tackles. Brumbies attack shape limits the impact of both players to a casual/uninformed observer, particularly Powell.

Probably better than booing your own team.

Tahs were kept in it by Jackson’s ineptness. Brum’s much improved defence nullified the Tahs attack, however Tah’s put on some very heavy hits as well. Generally the bad handling was caused by the player getting the bejeezus smacked out of them.

Just watched having worked last night. Hard to watch. Handling woeful. Foley was rattled and had his worst game for ages and the attack from the Tahs aimless. McCaffery was immense. Congrats Brumbies. Terrible news on Vallentini and Sio on as Wallaby perspective

Apparently Sio is fine, doesn't look great for Valentini though.

^ Sio an elbow injury and Rob Valetini walked out in a knee brace but they don't think it's medial damage, at this stage, but wait until scans next week once the swelling has gone down

Good to hear about Sio. The post game show said an AC injury and Vallentini possible dislocated knee. Good news if they're wrong

Tahs need to move all their games to the SCG to assist their pack to nullify bigger packs.

Terrible game. The Tahs spluttering attack continued. The pack got hammered many times and Foley looked lost. Same with Beale. Tahs seem to want to bore everyone to death going away from their strengths of running rugby.
