yes it was very unfortunate that such a competitive game of rugby was ended by such stupidity. what was he thinking? the No.10 is fair lucky he wasn't criminally prosecuted for such an unprovoked assault
Indeed, he is lucky it did not happen 100 metres away outside the school's gates. Hence, the school's pastoral care needs to click in immediately to help this young man deal with his challenges.

It was disgraceful, there is no excuse and Newington have taken the appropriate action which is great.
After speaking to several people involved I wonder will the actions (not physical) but constant that prompted the attack be looked at, I hope so.

“XXX, who was charged with 'Behave contrary, punching and kicking', said he would consider playing rugby union and hoped the suspension wouldn't prevent him from coaching his younger brother's junior league team.”

This extract from an article in today’s SMH.

Great – just the sort of person that “we” want playing rugby, and a great role model to those he wishes to coach……..

Think you'll be surprised, but I'm confident that each code respects the other's suspensions etc when they know about it.

All school boy rugby players should do karate once per week as part of their training. There are several techniques to incapacitate an opponent without seriously harming them.

And if everyone knows those techniques, then they would certainly begin to respect their fellow players more. Because it's a small leap from there to the serious harm bit.

heard that Sylvania were playing up in the Open GF at Concord yesterday. No sea horses in sight, they made all this fun for themselves playing Dural.

Anyone there to see the truth?

The subbies guy thinks that the universe revolves around subbies - there have been other instances of physical abuse of match officials at juniors and premiership & prem colts - nearly all of them are blind side / king hits as was this!

Alot of the Coogee boys played Colts with Randwick this year.
Their parents felt a lot more comfortable knowing they could drive safely away from the games.

on another note. players in the school competitions needs to be taught whats acceptable and what isn't and appropriate punishments enforced. This should not be limited to physical aggression.

While there are some nutjobs running around a lot of the physical violence stems from a build up of physical and verbal provocation. It should be made clear that fighting is not tolerated and if some kids pulled their heads in they might not cop a punch to the head.

Hearing of an interesting game situation from today in SJRU.

Unconfirmed outcome but believed that Judiciary will be a little busy this week.

Apparently 6 red cards after an all in brawl with the game abandoned.

Unconfirmed reports of at least one parent getting stuck in as well.

Not pretty apparently and I hope this is all facebook hyperbole, but I fear not.

Waiting for corroboration from an independent source before mentioning teams involved or grade.

Edit:
Another source has just said 4 Red Cards - 2 each team. Nasty all in brawl confirmed. Game Abandoned confirmed. Parental involvement not mentioned.

Edit#2:
Snout is saying 3 went up before judiciary last night. Two more have been cited. Judicial outcome for those pending.
No Parent cited/involved.

Possibly not as bad as first reported, but still not a good advertisment for the game to have 5 players up before judiciary from one game of junior footy.

Understand that some lads are having a 4 week "rest" following the judiciary hearing earlier this week............perhaps it will send a message that such actions will not be tolerated.

The next time, it just might be even harsher !

Difficult for teenagers full of testosterone and hormones to control their tempers when they have they have the Campbell Parade Heavyweight Title Fight of Packer vs Gyngall spread across the front pages.

Wonder when those two will be before the courts to face charges of affray or assault?

If it was John Bogan vs Peter Nobody having a set to like that outside The Mean Fiddler, the Wallopers would be throwing the book at them.

I hear that there was a particularly nasty incident in a SJRU 14A game yesterday.

A Manly Vikings player was king hit from behind by a Canterbury player (who was twice his weight BTW), and was unconscious on the field for 5 minutes as a result.

Hope that SJRU judiciary take strong action.
