Hope they come out of it better than the Randwick Rugby Club clubroom "redevelopment".

I think they now call the Coogee Bowlo or Coogee Bay Hotel "Home" after the licenced club went belly up last year.

Coogee Legion Club:
"The Board has arranged to provide membership of the Coogee Legion Club for all financial members as of 29th September 2013.
Membership of the Legion Club will continue until December 31st 2014. The Board of the Legion Club has welcomed our members and they have agreed to help keep the spirit of Randwick Rugby Club Ltd alive by displaying some of our memorabilia, allowing the use of the upstairs room for functions and meetings, etc."

Hmmm. Lawn Bowls is usually associated with folk at the twilight of their time on Earth. Rugby is usually associated with folk closer to the dawn of their time on Earth. Randwick Rugby at the Coogee Bowlo. Interesting mix.

Randwick Rugby bid for NRC, brought to you by Uni of NSW, Peters of Kensington and the Coogee Lawn Bowls Club.

At least it isn't Kens of Kensington, with the that organisation being involved in the downfall of a previous Transport Minister.

There is talk that the NRC is shelved. Thank God. The whole design was to give $200k per team to the cash strapped ARU. The problem we have in this country is that we have competition from the AFL and NRL who can make changes to their product quickly to meet the market. We cant. we are beholden to the old boys in the UK and SA and NZ. Australia is at the forefront of these sports. What they don't realise is that once union is buggered in Australia, NZ is next. What will happen to Union then. Look at the success of the nines in NZ in just their first year.

The Shute Shield needs a visionary leader. it aint coming from the ARU. They need to find a commercial formula and change the playing rules that will attract spectators. Do we involve Japanese business houses? whatever it may be. The rules need to change as the spectators don't get scrums and are bored with the lack of contested time in a game.

NZ has the strongest Rugby culture of any nation in the world.
They are not next,or even in the top 20 of who might be next.

whoever told you that the ARU was going to give the teams any money was dead wrong. In fact there were fees to obtain a licence.

Trying to make the SS bigger than it is is ludicrous. In fact the mismanagement and competition between clubs without financial backing has lead to many of the clubs being financially insolvent. The only way to get in the hearts and minds of the Australian public (and thats Australia, not Sydney) is to create a regional competition and generate depth in the process. Relying on the Shute shield as that level forever more is what the clan behind JO'N would have done.

Is your mail on the shelving of the NRC reliable Beastie?
Would certainly be hot off the press if true and frankly, an insult to the grass roots in a rich tradition after the considerable effort and politicing put into preparing expressions of interest and engaging with sponsors - not to mention heartache at clubs over whether to support the damn thing or not.

If it was still born it would be a blessing . Then we can get on with a considered restructure for 2015 starting with the irrelevant unrepresentative rump that is the SRU. The Shute Shield would be better off without them.

The whole SS was moved forward and restructured for it. Interested parties were told you need you expressions of interest in by a specific short term date. Then the formal tenders.
To bail after that would not look good.

Where will Norths go now?

They sold their clubhouse in Alfred St, North Sydney (next to the Warringah Expressway), and now wish to sell Christie St, St Leonards.
