Thinking up a QLD side based off overseas players being allowed...:

1. Slipper
2. BPA
3. Thor
4. LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto)
5. Rodda
6. Wright (c)
7. McReight
8. Wilson
9. Genia
10. Cooper
11. Petaia
12. To'omua
13. Kerevi
14. Daugunu
15. O'Connor

16. Mafi
17. Hoopert
18. Holmes
19. Blyth
20. McMahon
21. McDermott
22. Stewart
23. Banks

Surely you have to throw Poey in, start McMahon. Have Simmons over Blyth.

Edit: fuck it. Have a backrow of Gill at 7, McMahon at 6 and Poey at 8. Bugger the lineout, that would be incredible. I would have Karmichael Hunt over Stewart. Consider TK if you count him as a QLDer. Joe Tomane and Luke Morahan would be good for the wings. Of course Israel Folau if you really wanna set the cat amongst the pigeons.

Israel is from Sydney, played Origin for QLD during the QLD’s everywhere period.

i guess the other point to bring up, which has been a topic of discussion in the league SOO, is what level of incentive are players going to have to play?

Are they going to be paid a decent match payment?

Is that match payment enough of an incentive for overseas stars who may/may not be looking to push their case for wallaby selection, risk injury to play?

Will this be used as a wallaby selection tool? If it is do you cap the amount of overseas ineligible wallaby players or will the Gits rule be relaxed in anticipation of this?

If it isn't do we have the potential for a NRL v indigenous scenario where players pull out left right and centre the week before?

As noted previously, will it even be done at a time that will allow overseas players to participate and how does that work with contracts with overseas clubs?

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet but instead of this origin rubbish (imo) why not do more Aus A tours? Won't rate as high as the Wallabies but surely more than Super Rugby. Especially if against NZ Maori.

Understand no feasible this year.

As far as development goes it's a much better idea. However I think what they are doing is coming up with concepts they can sell to the media. It's a bit of a chicken v egg thing, however I think in this instance it makes sense considering RA's financial state. Get some money in to keep what we have and then look at improving it.

I also like other idea Hamish communicated in the article which is Bledisloe game on ANZAC day.

It is so refreshing to see this sort of fresh outside the square sort of thinking that this code desperately needs.

This is not "fresh thinking". This sort of commercialisation of one of the most sacred days of our shared history is something that would have been unthinkable to older generations, you know, the ones who suffered in the conflicts. Our code suffered more than some other codes, particularly rugby league. A generation of players was wiped out, the sport virtually ceased to exist in Queensland.

They'd probably wonder why the sport which sacrificed so much isn't now cashing in on the day like the AFL and NRL do.

The reality is that people are pretty open to watching and attending sport on the day and it is a public holiday.

And moreso we have an opportunity to actually have a proper ANZAC match between NZ and Australia with a moments silience before - and can be a celebration of the ANZAC spirit - and lets face it match between NZ and Australia is more relevant than match between 2 local league or AFL sides in terms of an ANZAC day footy match.

Book in please.

Interesting article in telegraph from Horan today saying that if Rugby Championship can't go ahead may need to look at having SOU 3 match series this year to fill the void.

Makes sense as emergency option as well as possible match between Probables vs Possibles (Wallaby Squad...)

They'd win wouldn't they?

Nah

If nothing else, theyd struggle at set piece.

Fainga'a, Sio, Slipper, Ala'alatoa, Tupou, LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto), Simmons, phillips as the tight 5 options make it hard for the likes of....HJH (Harry Johnson-Holmes), Pone, Blyth.

Backline less lopsided but not good.

9. White. 10. JOC (James O'Connor) 11. Koroibete 12. To'omua 13. TK 14. Hodge/Daugunu 15. Banks

9. Mcdermott 10. Lolesio 11. Wright 12. Paisami 13. Magnay 14 Petaia 15. mADDOCKS

I understand the reasoning, still find it very very hard to contemplate ANZAC day being used as a cash cow, mind you in my mind I do believe it is or should be the most sacred day to both Aus and NZ.

It is sacred. Traditionally starts with a service of remembrance and then everyone goes to the pub and gets pissed and gambles. I really can’t see a proper ANZAC game of footy getting up anyone’s noses, outside the NRL and AFL. It would work 1000%.
