Some really good discussion points but I will ask a couple of simple questions
Will Parramatta and Penrith field 3 colts sides next year?
I would say over the past 15 years both clubs have consistently not fielded 3 sides so how long is this resurgence from the West going to take?
Is it true that when Parramatta leagues club sponsored Parramatta rugby club they gave Parramatta 500k per season ?
I am not against the clubs being in the comp and I don't believe they should amalgamate as that will never work
I would just like to see 3 games of colts at Parramatta and Penrith and once this happens then those clubs will get stronger
Parramatta I think have zero points in colts club championship and there is one game to go. Where are the future 1st graders going to come from?
Canberra and NZ like most of the current group
Oops this will get juices flowing
If the plans in place come to fruition at Parramatta then there is a very strong chance you will have your wsh of 3 colts teams to play. Unfortunately, I believe there are some serious problems to deal with at the Penrith colts and things may not be looking at all rosey for them in 2013. There is also the possibility of a change to the required amount of teams that a club has to field to be a part of the competition as the SRU recognises that fielding 7-8 sides each week is not an easy thing to do in todays world of so many other things for young people to do and the minimum teams fielded may be lowered.
I have no idea about the levels of sponsorhip that the leagues club offered and history shows that it all ended in tears with Parramatta losing their clubhouse at Parramatta Park similar to the Gordon fiasco with the Mandarin club and I believe Warringah have ground and room sharing issues too. Who knows, perhaps Randwick can sell their rugby club to service the council debt. This is a by product of amateur boardrooms in over their heads with corporate sharks.
As you well know this page is about colts and where players come from in an open market like first grade is best left to the Shute Shield page but I doubt very much that the 15 first graders at Randwick were all born at the local hospital and have resided in the Coogee to Larpa district ever since. If one particular person hadn't emigrated from Argentina a while back it would have put a hole in your front row stocks.
As I drove through Centennial Park and up past Queens Park earlier this year I remarked to my wife about the country like similarities between there and the Parramatta to Penrith stretch on the M4. Oops.
