Some really good discussion points but I will ask a couple of simple questions
Will Parramatta and Penrith field 3 colts sides next year?
I would say over the past 15 years both clubs have consistently not fielded 3 sides so how long is this resurgence from the West going to take?
Is it true that when Parramatta leagues club sponsored Parramatta rugby club they gave Parramatta 500k per season ?
I am not against the clubs being in the comp and I don't believe they should amalgamate as that will never work
I would just like to see 3 games of colts at Parramatta and Penrith and once this happens then those clubs will get stronger
Parramatta I think have zero points in colts club championship and there is one game to go. Where are the future 1st graders going to come from?
Canberra and NZ like most of the current group
Oops this will get juices flowing

If the plans in place come to fruition at Parramatta then there is a very strong chance you will have your wsh of 3 colts teams to play. Unfortunately, I believe there are some serious problems to deal with at the Penrith colts and things may not be looking at all rosey for them in 2013. There is also the possibility of a change to the required amount of teams that a club has to field to be a part of the competition as the SRU recognises that fielding 7-8 sides each week is not an easy thing to do in todays world of so many other things for young people to do and the minimum teams fielded may be lowered.

I have no idea about the levels of sponsorhip that the leagues club offered and history shows that it all ended in tears with Parramatta losing their clubhouse at Parramatta Park similar to the Gordon fiasco with the Mandarin club and I believe Warringah have ground and room sharing issues too. Who knows, perhaps Randwick can sell their rugby club to service the council debt. This is a by product of amateur boardrooms in over their heads with corporate sharks.

As you well know this page is about colts and where players come from in an open market like first grade is best left to the Shute Shield page but I doubt very much that the 15 first graders at Randwick were all born at the local hospital and have resided in the Coogee to Larpa district ever since. If one particular person hadn't emigrated from Argentina a while back it would have put a hole in your front row stocks.

As I drove through Centennial Park and up past Queens Park earlier this year I remarked to my wife about the country like similarities between there and the Parramatta to Penrith stretch on the M4. Oops.

It is a dangerous assumption that Districts Clubs have actually developed many of the kids who front up to Colts.

Some kids rise to the top from School development, having been overlooked by their previous village club district.

Surely you are aware of Junior footy parent and club politics. Some parents chose to take their kid to another district/club, or to rely on schools only development for these reasons.

Some kids rise to the top on the back of mungoball junior development programmes. Transfer fees to the Mungo Clubs? Hmmmm.

Many late bloomers have sat on the bench at NSW State Champs in the under 10's-under 15's (if they have even made the team in the first place), and have little game time. Should this "development" be rewarded?

I know of a current Oakhill star who could not get a gig with Eastwood Juniors at younger age groups despite playing village footy in the Eastwood district, and only got Rep experiences via a West Harbour lifeline. This boy will be a good find for whatever Colts team he choses to align himself with. Not exactly a common story but it still happens a fair bit.

Boys from Easts Juniors typically have to try out for State Champs with other districts. Who do you propose will get those transfer fees?

Transfer fees, like communism, are a good idea but ultimately they will not work.

Thanks Hugh, yes the transfer fee thing has thorns but has merit. Though there must be a solution to assist these clubs that help develop the players. Yes in your example here West Harbour are very good at taking boys who miss their local club and coach them to a higher standard. Surely, they should be rewarded by these players sticking around after school. I know of a wahroonga boy who missed Gordon and played with the pirates and through this has gained skills and confidence to compete at a higher standard.
In being involved in village, school and club rugby I have seen the latter play a fundamental role to the improve many players. Yes there are exceptions but I continually see boys plucked from village teams and compete in club reps and colts and gain a wealth of experience.
Maybe if there was an impediment to move then Parra and Penrith may retain some of their players. I know it idealistic as there are many other factors.

Someone put that each club nominates players. Any idea where the finals will be held?

Drew the team in the programme was the writers own opinion (he writes the colts report each week) and he has stated that he has put a player from each team in the one he has "chosen". The clubs have had nothing to do with it.

All finals matches will be played at Foreshaw Park commencing on the 18th August. Games will be played on Saturday and Sunday

As for the finals coming up I believe the first week we will see Uni play West Harbour, Norths play Manly, Randwick will play Gordon and Warringah to play eastwood.

I believe UNi and Manly will win their games and get the next week off with Wests to play Eastwood and Norths to play Randwick. From there Uni will play Randwick and Manly will play Wests with the winners to play in the Grand Final.

Uni to Play Manly in the GF

Totally agree.
It would be great to enable fresh rep selections as there is a notion out there that you will be overlooked -
Unless you play for sydney Uni
U r an absolute freak
You made a rep team at school

Bad luck if the above doesn't apply , you wont be considered.
The australian under 20s fitted the above criteria and were a dud side finishing in 7th or 8th

I heard the ref was threatened after he stopped the Emus/Rats game early yesterday. The Rats players circled him in the player dugout for his protection, and after someone retrieved his bag and keys, the Rats players escorted him to his car.
Either individuals need to be banned, or the Club removed from the comp,no one should be subjected to this behaviour.

IRB Regulation 17 contains standardised guidance for Illegal and/or Foul Play and Misconduct for judiciaries to assist to determine sanctions for citings.

One or other of these will surely apply

Judiciary Entry Point Based on Scale of Seriousness of the Player’s conduct, which constitutes the offending.

Law No.6.A.5, 10.4(k) Verbal Abuse of Match Officials,
Lower End 6 weeks, Mid Range 12 weeks, Top End 18+weeks, Maximum Sanction 52 weeks

Law No.6.A.5, 10.4(k) Physical Abuse of Match Officials
Lower End 24 weeks, Mid Range 48 weeks, Top End 96+ weeks, Maximum Sanction Life

Law No.6.A.5, 10.4(k) Threatening Actions or Words at Match Officials
Lower End 12 weeks, Mid Range 24 weeks, Top End 48+ weeks, Maximum Sanction 260 weeks

Why would you be a ref? wicks v penrith 2nds Game was called 10 mins early because they kept trying to go the biff because they were losing. I'm know easts had similar issues. Pretty sure these weren't isolated incidents.
Hats off to the rats boys for doing the right thing.

Clubs should have an unwritten rule in colts- all forfeit v penrith colts- then no one losers points- lets see the follow up from nsw rugby- has anyone noticed the rules regarding abandoned games in the semis- GMs were meant to get them around- makes for a very interesting game if a team member goes down or play has to be stopped for a long period-

some interesting results yesterday- Norths have hit the wall, randwick v wests from reports was a tough physical game- eastwood and manly are coming good- semis should be a cracker-
Also has anyone noticed ayd uni signing souths toyota cup player (ex joeys) adrian haangaana to colts- his contract was torn up at souths due to being at a brothel in his souths gear- surely bruce ross doesnt want this character in his group!!! uni have been putting him down on 3rd/2s so he qualifies for semis- Also it will be interesting if Syd Rugby let brogan roods qualify as he has only played 3 games and wasnt injured on rep duties! Uni will find a way!

bring on the semis

What are the eligibility rules regarding a player being injured all year?

As it reads in competition manual

The player has played with the
Club a minimum of four matches during
the Minor Premiership series; or

(b) The player has been on
representative duties during the current
season and has played a minimum of
three minor premiership matches in the
current season at the same Club in which
he is seeking eligibility.

Roods has only played 3 games? he was not on rep duty- injured at uni training-

Norths colts need to look at unis teams very closely on saturday-

33.3 A player shall not be eligible to play
in a Finals Series fixture in any grade
lower than the grade in which he has
played the majority of his last seven
matches in the minor premiership.

33.3.1 Player eligibility history will be
determined by the online submissions as
recorded by the Clubs as per rule 32.5.

33.3.2 All selected sides are declared
(subject to injury, judiciary hearings, etc.)
to the Competition Manager on the
prescribed form, no later than 3pm on the
Monday before the semi-final, final or
grand final.

33.4 If a player does not qualify for a
particular grade under rule 33.3,
dispensation will be granted if the player
has played 60% of his season in the grade
in which he wishes to play. If the player
has been on representative duties as
described in 33.2, he shall be eligible for
Shute Shield, 2nd Grade or 1st Grade Colts
only, subject to Colts eligibility
