SA drew with Argentina in 2012.

Didn't we lost back to back games to Scotland in fact?

Argentina are a team capable of challenging and defeating top nations. Evidenced by their results and the fact they defeat the Wallabies in 1997. 18 months later the Wallabies won the World Cup. The fact that they play each team twice ever year now makes a loss more likely. My issue is with the fact it's discussed in today's context of playing twice a year, but then referenced to times when we played them about 4 times in 12 years, thus widening the gap between losses.

Samoa struggle to frequently get their top players available for fixtures outside World Cup years, affecting their ability to actually build a team.

Not saying there aren't excuses but that they're just that, excuses. And ones opinion of either Deans or McKenzie usually denotes how much credence is given to excuse their embarrassing losses.

I'd like to think I'm a rational person Jagman. I was strongly against McKenzie's appointment at the Reds at the time because he'd been fired from his last 2 jobs. I strongly disliked Quade Cooper. I was a big fan of Deans to begin with. Over time my opinions changed based on results.

I would have forgiven Deans for Scotland, or Samoa, or Ireland, or Scotland again in isolation. Together they form a pattern.

I'll forgive McKenzie for Argentina. If he adds Ireland and Wales to it, I may change my mind.

No, in terms of upsets from a depth, resources and structural point of view, the Argies beating Australia is more like New Zealand beating England in League.
International Rugby League isn't as strong as union.

But this is just incorrect.
New Zealand beat England all the time in league, in fact they are probably ranked higher then them. If the game is played in the southern hemisphere they would be favourites.

If you want a comparable upset I would say its like PNG/Fiji knocking over England maybe... But even then I would say league is the bigger upset, but that's only because of how far the wallabies have fallen as opposed to the global rise of argentina.

No one but England and NZ are going to knock over Australia in league. But second tier nations might knock of England.

Also, league has less proffessionals so the fitness of second tier nations are going to see them really struggle and you can't play a forward dominated crap fest whereby the less skilled team penalties there way over a more skilled less committed side.

All,

This is not a replacement thread for the Beale issue. The mods will not bother explaining that again, so if you have any shred of self-preservation, please move on.

Thanks.

I understand the need to keep things civil, but this is getting a little silly. Just looking back over the past few pages I haven't been able to find a single refence to Beale...

I suppose by drawing a long bow you could argue bringing McKenzie and the ARU's management skills into debate it's kinda related, but they're not the same thing.

Just sayin'...

It's probably because I've been deleting them when I see them.

Pretty clever of me, don't you think?

And you are right about one thing; this whole thing is unbefuckinglievably silly.

Fair enough - didn't realise this place didn't leave evidence of that. Other forums I've been to have a "moderators have deleted this post for ___ reason" when that happen...

I guess you lot a little too classy for that ;) .

to be fair the post you deleted of mine which referred to an article on the Beale dilemma was more about the opportunism and hypocrisy of someone employed by the nrl commenting on rugby and sexism rather than on the actual drama of bealegate. I do understand that mods make mistakes though.

Oh is that one of the deleted posts? Yes, that's a little odd as it fits the actual topic of this thread a lot more than all the stuff about Argentina.

The league media will be in a frenzy over Jarryd Hayne to gridiron for a while - far too busy to worry about rugby.

I wonder whether Colin Scotts' name will appear In any stories. The first Aussie to make it in the NFL, a former rah rah. Played for Australian Schools.

Picked it like a nose @Wamberal. Scotts has been featured on Fox Sports News Channel commenting on the potential role he could have in NFL. His view is specialist kick return fellow.

Meanwhile the Mungo media seem to be whipping themselves into a frenzy in reaction.

This could open up salary cap and space at Eels for any Rugby raids on the Tahs.

So much for the NRL war chest, and attractiveness of their backyard pond of a code for their marquee players.

I can just image what's going on in the Telegraph league reporters office at the moment. "The end of the world is nigh", "Dark day for rugby league and sport in Australia", "How could he leave the greatest game of all?"

I think frenzy may well be an understatement HJ.:)

Say what you will about this thing with Hayne, but the level of class, humility and courage he's shown in making this decision comes at a time when people are thinking of our code as filled with guys that represent pretty well the opposite of all that...

Ironically also, if Hayne makes a success over there he could unintentionally grow interest in League.
