Surely you'd go with Dennis over Horwill. Both experienced campers but Dennis is actually playing well.
Both on the plane - but I know who I'd want coming on to the field as a reserve against England at Twickers up by 2 with a defensive 5m scrum and time about to expire

The guy who didn't disclose his injury fully and cost us a Lions series with his limp scrummaging effort in the 3rd Test?

You reckon it might have been the 4 tries they let in, not however many of the 15 points in penalties which were from scrums that was why Australia lost 41-16 perhaps?

The next few weeks are going to be very interesting watching the returns of Quade Cooper, Matt To'omua and especially Scott Sio.

All three are likely to be matchday 23 players (with To'omua starting) but all three will need to make strong returns.

If To'omua stutters again you could easily see Leali'ifano get the first chance in the 12 jersey come the Rugby Championship or even Giteau given a crack.

I tend to think Cooper will be the backup 10 no matter what, but if his form isn't strong, we might play a specialist 10 on the bench and instead opt for a stop gap measure (like To'omua being the backup 10 from the starting side for example).

Scott Sio needs the strongest return in my opinion. In both 2014 and 2015 he's been the second best LHP in Super Rugby at some points of the season but then has faced long spells on the sideline through injury so he's never asserted himself on the test stage. It's assumed he'll get healthy and be our reserve LHP but I don't think he's got much margin for error. I think Benn Robinson is a strong chance to the reserve LHP if Sio doesn't make it but otherwise, Robinson will probably miss the RWC squad altogether as I doubt he'll be the fifth prop chosen.

You might as well blame Kurtley for falling over and missing that penalty kick in the 1st test, his poor choice in studs cost us the game and ultimately the series.. We could have wrapped it up before it even reached the third test....

I don't actually believe that, just highlighting a point...

Simmons has to be given first crack. As cyclopath said he was very good last year, and he has been OK since his return from injury in a poor Reds team.

I see his line out ability unmatched in Australia for second rowers. That alone at test level is vitally important.

Oh for god sake, he's not running a nuclear reactor.

People talk about the lineout like it's some kind of bloody enigma machine.

Incidentally, Fardy is calling the Brumbies lineout, and it's the best in the competition. As he's a certain starter, lets leave Simmons legendary lineout calling out of the equation.

Simmons will be the starting lock, with Skelton partnering him..
It's a little bit silly to say we should disregard a locks lineout ability, it's a key component of a locks game.

Agreed, how hard is it? Call a 2 ball until you lose then mix up 2, 4 and 6 - unless the hooker isn't hitting 6 in which case revert to short line outs.
If a professional footballer can't remember whether the first number over 50 means off the top or a driving line-out they probably shouldn't be playing

With only a few weeks to go, these are my definites..........

1. Slipper
2. Moore
3. Kepu
4. Skelton
5. Simmons
6. Fardy
7. Pocock
8.
9. Phipps
10. Foley
11. AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper)
12. To'omua
13. Kuridrani
14. Speight
15. Folau

17. Sio
18. Holmes
20. Hooper
23. Horne

Other players in the mix right now..........

Backup hookers - TPN, Latu, Hanson, Fainga'a
Starting 8's - Palu, McCalman
Lock/6 - Jones, Dennis
Locks - Coleman, Arnold, Carter
The fifth prop - Alexander, PAE, Weeks, Robinson
Scrumhalves - White, Stirzaker, Genia
Playmakers - Cooper, Lilo, Giteau
Outside backs - Cummins, JOC (James O'Connor), Tomane, Mitchell, Kerevi

I think Horwill and Beale are playing so poorly they shouldn't be considered, and Charles has really dropped off..............

I've also added in Kerevi because he's been pretty good in recent weeks, and while he might not make the RWC he's not too far away.

I think Mitchell is more a definite over Horne but they're bloody close. Mitchell gets it for his experience and kicking game. Can play fullback too.

I think Horne is playing so well that he needs to be in the 23, but I'd pick AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) due to his big game experience and to add more balance to the back 3............

I haven't really rated Tomane's all round form this year (especially his defence at times), but he's probably jumped well ahead of the likes of Cummins and JOC (James O'Connor) for a wing spot.......... he also leads the comp. for line breaks.........

Mitchell could be a handy proposition to cover fullback.

Latu's 4 week ban might have just cost himself a spot at the RWC

I'd have Toby Smith as the reserve LH if Sio isn't fit, assuming of course that he (Smith) is fit. Robbo would come under consideration if both are unfit imo.

Why? Isn't it in October?

Because his season thus far hasn't been enough to guarantee himself a position in the Wallabies squad, and he has now been ruled out for the rest of the season bar the grand final..
