have a look for yourself the link should start you about 2 seconds before the hit

Nothing wrong with that hit from what I could see. It might have looked worse up close.

If Noa got carded for that I think that's pretty harsh and shows a bit of inexperience from the referee. I mean he didn't blow a penalty for the hit initially and only stopped play once Noa signaled for the injury.

it happens at about 1.18 for those who the link doesn't work for.

I'd be surprised if he misses any time for this.

Contact ... with the head (see blood nose if can't make out impact)
Force... insignificant, moderate, Significant
Intent ... accidental, Reckless, intentional
Red Card every day of the week under the high tackle focus that began last year, I don't see any arm wrapping as an aside

Very tense finish at ANU on Saturday, just shows how even our wonderful competition is. Huge weekend coming up with Tuggeranong taking on Qbn (at Taylor Park I think?). No. 8 will you be going? Uni have a bye which could be halt any momentum gained from Saturday. It could also be a positive as I know from talking to a few of the players that there were some wounded bodies floating around the barn after the match. Royals take on Easts which will be a massive test for the tri colours. My match of the round this week is definitely Daramalan vs Wests. Both sides will be desperate to chalk up a win. I'm tipping the Lions to get the job done. I'll post my other predictions later in the week. Does a red card mean anything suspension wise? Or will OJ be free to play this weekend?

Nah I have no issue with that hit at all. Yes it was significant force but if I was coaching I would be wanting every player to approach every tackle with significant force. Not clear if it was head contact but even if it was it was clearly accidental- no way did he intentionally attack the head. I can't say that was reckless. It was a front on collision. He could possibly be in a bit of trouble if there is another angle that suggested it was a shoulder but I'm quite happy if he plays this week.

Might you be a referee?

Like I said it might have looked worse up close. from the angle we got (and no replay) didn’t look like a tackle that should get a red card. I can’t see any contact with the head. He also finishes on top of the west’s player initially which would suggest the intent in the tackle was correct.

With that I mind I’ll respectfully disagree with you.

Will he have to face the judiciary? And if so when?

I am a indeed referee (not the referee of that game), similar to the lifting/tip-tackle changes a while ago the decision making on high contact was taken out of the referees hands, the checklist above is the template for high tackle decisions.
Judiciary was last night I think.

Yep........ no arms, high contact to the head = 100% red card, and has been for a while now.

It was a penalty and a yellow at best. It’s not bloody oztag.

No, it's not oztag....... it's Rugby Union, and that level of offence has been a red card for quite a while now, and rightfully so for the reasons discussed above.

Anyone have any picks for this weekend?

I think it's going to go one of two ways for the Vikings. They're either going to be incredibly fired up and really put it to QBN or they'll start slowly again and QBN will put them away.

QBN vs Tuggies - Tuggies by 7
East vs Royals - Royals by 20
Wests vs Gungahlin - Wests by 3

What's your read on the royals easts game Macka_au? Can't see Easts putting up more of a fight?

I just think royals are a really good side. Easts can hang with them, but my read is royals run away with it in the last 20. It'll probably be one of those cases where the score doesn't necessarily reflect the game. Royals just seem to have an ability to score points from anywhere on the field.

That's why i've tipped a 20 point win. I'd love to be wrong!

I think the bubble might burst on the fairytale start for Easts this weekend and they will go down by a fair bit more than 20 which will test the character a bit.

The other 2 games could go either way. I see QBN getting up at home narrowly and agree Wests should get the choccies

The new coach at Qbn seems to be getting early results. Was never a big fan of Fahye. What's the buzz about Qbn - better feel about the place?
