CAS 2019

Not sure if BS, but Barker recruitment for 2019 is very strong. Looking to improve a backline that may have been filled by forwards. Heard rumours around Antico leaving Aloysius at the end of 2018, not sure his destination, maybe Barker poached him? Would definitely ruffle some feathers.

Was it that long ago when kids went to a school and played their hearts out for THEIR school, played with their mates and win , lose or draw were proud to be part of that school? When did "recruitment" become a priority? When did winning a 6 team competition become the major goal of a school?

Exactly right Richard. I'd rather win one, maybe two games a year with the blokes I'd slugged it out with for years, rather than be recruited to a team put together exclusively to win a title. That's just easy - and just wrong.
I doubt Barker would have the audacity to poach a player from another CAS school, but given their form this year, I'm starting to wonder.
Personally, I expect Antico to be at Aloys next year and, if approached, to reject any offer from elsewhere.

The 13 could be Sam Rechner from Knox, he was injured a lot last season but if fit he will be one of the best centres in the CAS comp. Expecting big things from him this year.
IF Sam Rechner is back to full capacity in 2019, he will be the 12 for CAS 1s. He is sheer class and a ferocious worker (something that often gets forgotten when identifying rep players).
LHW may have to find an alternate position.

The grapevine has thrown up Joey's as the place Antico is heading......but who knows?

If he is leaving I'd just be furious for the half back in the 1st's this year who was taken off in his last home game so that Antico could get some experience. It ultimately reflects the rugby program at Aloys though, I'm of the opinion that neither the director of rugby or either 1st xv coaches put in half the effort than other coaches employed by the school. Something has to change or Rugby will continue to die there.

Hi Dick, funny to see Axel reply, a new mate of mine, our boys play against each other. He and his son are fine Knoxmen, and I also agree with you, but the world has changed beit for the better, probably not.

WTF?

... He and his son are fine Knoxmen, ...

A contradiction in terms if I have ever seen one.;)

Not sure what recruitment has taken place at Barker for 2019, apart from definitely no-one in the U16's for next year.

Wow Rechner must be good if you think he will displace LHW from the 12 possie in the CAS, I doubt it.

Geeze Axe, you got done there mate, good work WTF!

Im not a fan of Luca's decision as he has already played first XV off the bench at the college in place of a year 12 who would have cherished this oppurtunity unlike he has taken this for granteed thinking he is too good for aloys rugby. We will see how he turns out at Joeys with no guarentees as a firsts starter but with the CAS beating GPS rugby last two years there is no reason for there not to be a pathway through CAS

Few interesting changes taking place next year... namely the transition from a "Schoolboys" model to a Franchise Academy U/18's model. Gone are the days of "NSW Schoolboys" and National Championships.

Not entirely sure - given the historically troublesome timing of the National Champs at View I can see the whole week being binned rather than the new U/18 Academies playing each other.

Today, at a preseason 16s and Opens Rugby meeting, I am somewhat reliably told by my son, but he seemed pretty sure, that the 2019 Rugby draw for Waverley, for the trials, or whatever you want to call them, are as follows:

2 trial games against Riverview, 1st and last games, so yes 2 games v Igges.
In between are games v Joeys, Kings, St Augustines and Shore.
Fantastic to be playing Joeys and Kings again, missed them both last year.

A total of 6 extremely competitive games, we will miss Scots and Newington, but still a very solid preseason hit out!

Surely someone else has some news on their schools pre-comp draw?

From what I've heard, Knox play Newington and Scots next year, and miss out on playing View and Shore in the trials.
