I think the referee’s escalation process was well managed and appropriate and clear.

I was sitting in the stand and saw when he called out the Scots captain just before the yellow card and said to those I was with, that the next offside infringement in the red zone would cop a card and that’s exactly what he did.

He’s warned the players, warned the captain, the consequence is clear.

I thought he was a little generous in only giving a yellow card for the no arm shoulder charge at the end of the game. It was deliberate and high and could have been red.

The Scots forwards were clearly superior in scrums and lineouts and mauls from lineouts. Joeys forwards more than held their own in all other aspects of general play. That got them enough ball to play with (together with Scots errors).

Both sides have things to work on which will make the return clash well worthwhile. Let’s hope the Scots supporters are able to find their way to the Hill to support their team in goodly numbers - they deserve it.

Think biggest threat will be Newington

You forgot Reece Downs - Young fella in Yr 10 played in the 1st's Saturday against TSC and had a very good game

I think you'll find the score was 29-19... and I wouldn't call loose five lineouts and 6 tight heads an equal match in the forwards...what game were you watching ha ha. Hardly sour grapes however it's not the first time a pedantic Ref has ruined a great game.

Scots were very poor against Riverview , then improved vastly against an under strength Newington team, but against joeys the scoreline flattered Scots and joeys were very impressive . One thing Scots can take out of the game is that their forwards are improving every game which is a good sign going forward. In the backs the yr 10 boy tyrell is so under used, with one carry all game against joeys ,this has to change if they are to be in contention when the whips are cracking as he is something special
If Scots fix this and the backline sharpens up they will be there when it counts.

Agreed. Scots have struggled to form any consistency in back to back matches. They were the Scots lion against Trinity and Newington but then were the little kittens against Riverview and Joeys.

Their forward pack is definitely potentially the best in the comp, and definitely missed Hugo Savala at 10. They were punished by the referee on the weekend but it still baffles me why they struggled so much against Joeys who certainly dont outdo them for strength or size. Tyrell is definitely one of their strongest players - only in year 10 suggesting he is a name to look out for in the future.

Time will tell if Scots can put together a strong GPS season, I still believe they will be amongst Joeys and Kings as the favourites for the title. Who do they have this weekend???

Scots forwards have dominated both New and Joeys and were matched by the larger View pack,Joeys worked out how to play them and succeeded with that backline unlike New that struggled to get it together in the backline that day.
Joeys proved that Scots are beatable even if the forward pack was on skates in the scrum.
Results on the weekend confuse even more now, such a great comp coming up in both GPS and CAS.

Can someone please show this to the Joe Boys. The SJC 'Walk On' has evolved over the years to now sound like a bunch of sick parrots...with very flat voices. And when did they start singing it at trial matches?
Come on boys, you can do better than this - listen to the chorus and get it going at assembly!

Ok my 2 cents worth

Referee... look I know there was a lot of dropped ball, but he is my definition of a referee that doesn’t let a game breath

Probably looked worse as edited version of the game... however please god give me Andrew Coorey for the real match

Joeys committed virtually no one to breakdown...so sadly scots looked best when they went for a rolling maul and sucked in a few more of the 8 joeys breakaways

Scots were their own worst enemy... and if they can’t get the ball to 11, they must be daft

Joeys have the usual 3 or 4 stars ... and the rest workman like

The inside ball from 10 to 13... will probably by itself see joeys win in 2019

And in terms of scots hopes, they couldn’t possibly drop more ball

So think their biggest issue is self belief

Finally can someone please referee coach that ref as he might as well be on the nrl payroll... and all is not lost if someone explains to him what advantage is , and materiality and a couple other basic concepts

Important to distinguish between set piece and other forward work. May not have been equal in scrum and lineout (although for the record - only 2 tight heads and 4 lineout losses). On the other hand, 5 turnovers at the breakdown to Joeys and none to Scots.

It was a minor game compared to the Scots/Joeys game, but Newington beat Kinross 47-12. Riverview beat Kinross 33-10 so Kinross are becoming more competitive. Message is a trip to Orange will be a good match for the travelling side.

New beat Knox, Knox beat Joeys, Joeys beat Scots, Scots thumped New, Joeys beat Waves. Does that mean if Knox beat Scots they are GPS/CAS premiers?!?!:)

Knox forwards are large so Scots might need a Plan B.

There's no such thing as premiers this term mate. They're called "trial" games for a reason.

Knox were hopeless against Newington and if anyone works out that they use the same structure through the forwards every year, and have no speed in their backline as Newington did, they can be beaten without much fuss.

Knox vs Scots should make for a very interesting game - one in form, confident team, the latter struggling for consistency, both big brute forward packs. Will be a ripper.

Yep and the earth is flat. Cant imagine one kid thinking it doesn't matter if we lose.

Just watched the Joeys Scots game again for the 2nd time and I seem to be confirming to myself that Scots simply shot themselves in the foot with defensive lapses which have been few and far between the past few years. Secondly that dropped ball is uncharacteristic. The game's score I don't believe truly reflected the game. Whilst Joeys backs played much better footy, Scots poor defensive decisions in the back line cost them those points, rather than Joeys being out and out sensational.

Scots need to desperately sort this out before Rd 1 comes around. I have faith that Scots will prove to once again cause oppositions havoc and if they build well enough over the next few months with some confidence and momentum will end up being the dark horse to return to the winners circle once more.

You would of thought with all the Money that Scots have spent on giving out scholarships for RUGBY players that they would at least show some sort of ability.
It is disgraceful that these schools do this!. The AAGPS comp is a complete waste of time and played by a select few who really give a F. about it.
