Super Rugby Rnd 7: Rebels v Reds

Seriously, sometimes the Melbourne chip is more of a crevice, perhaps even a canyon. It's not like the Reds didn't do whatever they could to ensure the game goes ahead. And yes it's good that that load is being shared by more than the Force/Rebels. But it's not really a Rugby Austrlia decision, it's a multitude of State decisions and Rugby Austrlia, the Reds & Rebels have to work together for Rugby.

Reds should be favored to win this game, Reds by 14 on current form isn't unfair. But given the circumstances Rebels should be neck and neck. The Reds have actually been playing pretty poorly all season, but still just get it done. They know they'll have to be sharp against the Rebels. And perhaps a 'tour' siege mentally will help them.

At the end of the day gotta play the team in front of you, and in COVID times the circumstances in front of you.
Don’t worry the average Rebels supporter isn’t thinking this.

sorry I have to call bull shit on that, what ever they could? They should have flown to Melbourne on Sunday morning at the latest, even Saturday night after the game. The restrictions with Brisbane had not come into play and all they would have had to do is a test and wait for a result. Staying in Sydney helped, but was still not the best option.

What would have travelling to Melbourne on Saturday night, instead of remaining in Sydney achieved?

that the game would be going ahead as scheduled this weekend without having to consider a change of venue. Oh wait, that's common sense so that can't be expected from and member of rugby Australia

No it wouldn't have. The travel restrictions were back dated to before the Reds left.

yes, but for anyone who was in greater Brisbane for the back dated dates, all they need to do is isolate till they receive a negative result. A friend of mine was contacted Saturday, tested at 8am on Sunday and received his result on Sunday at 2pm. So Isolated for all of a few hours.

Shees, all I remember was how generally supportive GAGR posters were of Rebels fans around the lock down last year and the challenges of their team.

Great to see it reciprocated.
Think it's more to do with rounds 2 and 4 then last year. Rebels had to fly to Brisbane the day of the game, had to return to ACT rather then return home. Rearrange one game to suit the others states rules etc. Think it's more the suggestion that we should now play in Sydney cause Brisbane has the virus that's annoying.

And if the game has to be moved to NSW, make it Albury or even ACT. That way I can drive from the campsite and be back by morning for Easter.

I genuinely hope the game goes ahead in Melbourne as planned and think the powers that be will make it happen .

BUT , at the end of the day Stan/Nine will be the decider , in that they have paid for content and the game will go ahead , just a matter of where that is. I’m sure the rugby public ( Reds supporters included) would like it to be in Melbourne. We all know what the Rebels and Force sacrificed last year, but that won’t change the fact that Stan will want to broadcast a game as per the schedule.

The game will happen somewhere regardless of how unfair that seems to Rebels members and supporters.

Don’t think you would get odds on a forfeit.

Exactly it’s not hard. But they just stayed in the hotel up in Sydney

Greater Brisbane a red zone now, different to last weekend. It will take some political wrestling to make it happen.

Or the reds could of hoped on the bus last week after the Tahs game. Anyone with half a brain could see it was likely to get worse before it gets better

They stayed in Sydney rather than return to Brisbane, think they have at least half the brain required as per your statement.

What happens next is outside my ( and assuming your ) pay grade. All I’m saying is they won’t take emotional arguments into consideration.

Yes the Rebels deserve a home game , we all recognise that , but that’s not what decide the argument.

No that’s not how it works. If they went straight to Melbourne and were then required to quarantine, they ran the risk of 2 weeks in isolation if the government deemed it was necessary, as has happened throughout the majority of the pandemic.

That would mean no game in Melb, no game for the Reds next week and no possibility of even a neutral venue. Essentially blowing up SRAU and risking tv revenue for the game that’s desperately needed.

The game can also not be postponed as the TT comp is due to start a week after the SRAU final.

A lot of this argument is extreme irrational and not based in reality.

Well I guess if you finish second and us third you can just come play the game in Melbourne as you owe us a home game. But it is seriously amateur hour. They could of come down to Melbourne last week after the game takes 24 hours to get your results back so quarantined for one day and then would of been fine but that was too hard.

Lol they could have. As the government only required them to quarantine until they have returned a clean test. The lions have been fine based in Melbourne. The equally run the risk of the NSW changing their quarantine relationships by staying in Sydney.

Also the TT comp hasn’t even been confirmed yet

Staying in NSW was the correct choice as it didn’t put the team at risk of playing not just this weeks game but the week after. NSW isn’t a Covid risk area so doesn’t matter if they are based there. The game will most likely be played in Melbourne, but the main priority is to play the game. Staying in NSW was the best solution for achieving at a minimum one of these goals.

TT fixtures will run as planned if the go ahead happens. The fixtures are even on the Rebels website

The lions had the luxury of actually been in Victoria when announcements were made.

NSW is the least likely territory to call a lockdown as per history of the last 12 months.

I’m gathering you are on the youngish side and haven’t had to deal with business needs and government protocols the last 12 months.

And Victoria has a longer run of being covid free then NSW and with this cluster already spreading into NSW they are just as likely to change tighten the rules. Victoria had shown when it comes to sports they will push through, they gave the lions side an exemption despite the facts the health department ordered everyone into isolation and they gave the tennis an exemption.

There has been no announcement on a travel bubble and it looks likely that NZ will be more reluctant now

Victoria and the potential to call a lockdown is not at all relevant, there are zero cases here. Also if the reds were here and a snap lockdown was called we could share a bus out

Staying in Sydney made it more problematic as they could of already been ticked off with their isolation but now it’s a red area pardon the pun it makes it all the more difficult

Of course Victoria isn’t going to call a lockdown, we are all talking about Victoria locking out people from other states. You are sounding very silly with this argument.

This is the rugby equivalent of talking to an American about gun control, where the persons solution is more guns.
