SRAU RD 10 - Force v Reds Friday 23rd April HBF Park

Equalizer

Phil Hardcastle (33)
If you love Australian rugby you can't deny what a massive come back that is by the Force. That is 3 massive games in a row to make the finals. All guts and determination to right a blight on the game by Rugby Australia. My voice is cactus. Despite the lockdown I wasn't missing this one. It could of been 15,000 if not for the Covid lockdown today, but there were 6,500 vocal in the Sea of Blue tonight!

That’s what happens when a group of blokes have some pride. Wish we had that but hats off to you it was amazing especially beating the Reds

just watched that last 10 minutes again on replay. So happy for this team. Can't wait to see them belt out the song in the sheds. Just streaming consciousness here. Cant believe that game. Up there with first win and beating the Crusaders.

Man where do I even start. When we were 21-7 down I thought it was going to be a cricket score, but those magnificent buggers in blue found something. They stuck fat and found ways to score. We're an ugly team at times, but there is a shitload of heart there and as a fan I can't really ask for more. The way we've gutsed it out in the last few weeks makes so bloody proud of that bunch of third rate park footballers who couldn't get a game anywhere else (according to some) are playing a semi next week. I don't think we'll go any further than that but we've come so far this season.

Was good game and worth staying up until late watching it. My thoughts from across here was there could be no argument, Force deserved win, and I a Reds supporter in Aus conp. The beuaty of rugby sometimes a team that wants it enough will just find ways of doing it I reckon.
Reds must be slightly concerned, they will be going into final without a win for a month, and little rugby. Though it will be different I imagine with a big crowd at Suncorp and will fire tham up. I wonder if I aloowed to make a comment on Tupou, I kmow he is running bloody well etc, but I thought last night he was doing a bit of walking and slow jogging when it was time for defensive work, maybe being a little harsh, but when play went past him a couple of times he was very Akira Ioane like and didn't look to be very desperate to turn and get back to help out.
Force are getting good value for money out of Thrush , he was throwing himself an awful lot last night doing some good stuff, as was most of team.
Only little thing I really felt that Kuridrani should of been Red carded last night and may yet face a trio to judiciary.

Yes, I think TK could get some time off after that, which is a pity because it was one of the best games of Super rugby he's played for a couple of years.
A couple of comments on individuals in that Force team
Olowofela really has some wheels. He's very good and getting better each game, we really are starting to develop acrop of class wingers in Aus
Most of the forwards played their heart out, but in particular Thrush and Robertson stood out for me
But above all, Kaitu'u! I am increasingly of the view that this guy is the best 2 in the country. Sure, he hasn't been tested at test level yet, but with a group of hookers who are, well, okay but no-one really demanding the test jumper, this guy excels every week.
Two negatives. For one of the biggest humans on the planet, Timani has surprisingly little impact, as was always the case when he was with the Tahs. And Ready is surely challenging Swinton as the dumbest footballer in Super Rugby AU.

And he is not one of them. He is on loan from Leicester Tigers. Not sure what the point of importing somebody like him is, exactly.

I thought it disrespectful that we did not kick the 3 at the end, put the C next to J'OC again. Messy game, we got sucked into the Forces game.
What would be the point? Win, lose or draw, the result doesn’t change for the Reds. They still finish top. If you are going for the win, there is no better place to score a try than 5m out next to the posts. Extra time means they still need a try to win. And they would have to do it from their own half.
Plus, you run the risk of injury in an unnecessary further 10 minutes of Rugby. Just finish the game in regular time with the try if you can. If you don’t get it it’s not going to matter.

I dunno. I get that is pragmatic. But winning is a habit. Never give a sucker a break. I get your point they still had to score a try but it gives you a bit more time. To me we’ve played smart all year, but that was a dud call.

The bit that concerned me about the decision was it seemed like it was the result of a round table discussion rather than the captain’s call. There were quite a few being vocal about what to do , none more so than Thomas who was gesturing for the scrum as soon as the penalty was awarded.

Maybe I’m a bit too old school, but I prefer the team looks to the captain to make the call rather than start yelling out what they think should happen.

In a mix of opinions, I can accept I might be in the minority. But I don’t think taking the three from that position on the field to force extra time was the smarter call.

Why should TK have been red carded? I missed his yellow at the start.
Tip tackle. First point of contact would have been the head of Paisami hadn’t put his hand down.

I’m not really sure what the rule is there. I actually thought the ref was right in that because it wasn’t head first contact it’s only a yellow, but it was quite dangerous and I can understand why a red might apply.
