TT Rnd 1: Highlanders v Reds

Do you think this is the only forum, website or media organisation that talks about rugby? You need to get out more.

No I go on a lot, and have never seen any super refs etc on any. If you think you have I suggest you maybe a little gullible.

Mate, this is getting ridiculous. Ok, there's lots of discussion about Tupou's technique, lots of photos from spidercam and lots of complaining that he is angling in. Stan's coverage highlighted it. New Zealand media pick up on it and start agitating for better reffing. Refs may not be on these forums but I am sure they do see plenty of mainstream media reports and while they would insist that it doesn't sway them, it must put the though in their minds...

"Highlanders loosehead prop Ethan de Groot says the dominant Reds scrum powered by Taniela Tupou has been given more leeway by Australian whistleblowers than referees would allow in New Zealand, setting the scene for a fiery set-piece tussle on Friday." Stuff.co.nz

The point I was trying to make was that I doubt NZ would argue about any of their players perhaps doing something illegal in a game, eg Richie McCaw and offside.

My point exactly, no matter how much people on these sites claimed he was offside, in from the side etc etc, the refs seemd to ignore (or more likely) never read it, and I think Tupou will be same.

I mean Tupou is probably the best scrumager in World Rugby (or at least pretty bloody close) and he's really built a reputation as such, given that you typically get the benefit of the doubt more often than not. And he's not been penalized for it (pretty sure he's not been penalised in the scrum all year) so why would he change.

Yeah he has.

Completely agree with Reg. Can't see why he's starting over Sorovi. McDermott shouldn't have been switched imo, and if he was, it should have been Sorovi
Can’t see why he’s even getting a jumper. Said it before and will say it again he doesn’t deserve it. Hasn’t proved worthy at all.

I really want Jock back at 15. Bryce is a solid bench option currently but he doesn't set the world on fire.

Uru for Wilson makes sense. Uru has been great this year and I was surprised he didn't come on earlier in the final.

TT has only played 2 games in the last month. I'd keep him going but look to replace him as we need to build some depth at THP as guys sitting on the bench for 80 don't learn anything.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Wright. Would he go back to 6 with ASY (Angus Scott-Young) to lock or the bench?

Centres will probably stay the same as the weekend, although I'm not that impressed with Stewart this year.

We can take Liam Wright at the Brumbies and start him at 7 if you wish ;)

Mafi injured or rested? Nasser will need to get plenty of minutes if he’s hoping to lock down a spot in the squad for next year or beyond. Yet to be proven at hooker

Completely agree there are much better 9's getting around the Hospital Cup one of them is Sorovi and he showing that he is a class above that comp.

I agree that he's yet to be proven, but I won't be surprised if he's there in the same role as a 3rd string hooker/prop next year. That'll still need someone to come in and pair Mafi week to week though.
