Waratahs 2022

Trial match against the Rebels on Thursday 16th of December ... behind closed doors.
It's more about giving the players game time after a long off-season, so I'm not surprised.
I'm trying to remember when Aussie rugby started using these sour and surly mug shots to promote the game.

It has never really worked. Maybe the idea was to show a boxing-style intensity of players "ready for a fight" but these guys just look pissed off and tired of life.

It's time to fire whoever they're paying to produce this shit.

What got me about that article was them talking about a lack of depth at 10. Super Rugby fans have a lot of 10's they're super excited about. Is it simply that they're not Wallabies level yet (in which case start giving them the experience & training to get up there), or does Rennie et al think the likes of Harrison, Donaldson etc aren't capable of getting to Wallabies level?

I've always liked Beale but I prefer him as an impact player off the bench. And he does have slumps. I'd be OK with him coming back but I'd hope they'd be also pushing for new young people to step up and challenge him for the 15 spot.

On another topic, the trial v Rebels is tonight. Anyone have any information on it? Closed door. But are there streams? I'm expecting not, but asking anyway. Hoping there's at least some journalists allowed to do reporting from it & hype us up. :)

Yeh I would love to see a stream…but equally they may have their reasons for closed door session which I respect given very early pre season trial

I remember an article much earlier this year said Coleman wanted a trial or two at the end of this year because to the lack of games due to Covid and the side-heavy calendar Super Rugby teams have. There's things in game situations you can gain that you can't from training sessions. That's what tonight's trial is about. And they don't want the pressure of people watching. Just for the boys to relax and play, get the cobwebs out.

Add to that is the use of the term "hit out" accompanying the aggressive faces.

Just why they advertise a closed doors trial match is beyond me.

My mail was from a couple of the players. I think he couldn't wait to get out because of the coaching. He's coming back, so it can't be that bad
I also have heard coaching is much better now than when he left. Coleman still has to have the cattle... Fullback is an issue and Coleman obviously thinks Beale can definitely fill that role... which if it eventuates, will leave Harrison, Edmed and Donaldson to battle it out for the starting 10 position... the one who gets the best out of the outside backs should get the gig...

Opening game of Waratahs hosting drua. Definitely going to make sure get to that game as historic occasion with first game for drua of super rugby. Imagine should be good Pacific Islander turn out in support of drua which should also make for good atmosphere.

To get the Fijian supporters, the location and the admission fees have to be right for them.

If Sydney 7s is a guide I can’t see normal admission fees a problem. Suspect they will play at bankwest stadium or scg (ok maybe not scg)..I think either will work here,
