Taniela Tupou - 2023
At just 23, the tighthead has enormous potential and with 14 Test caps and almost 50 appearances for the Reds already under his belt since his Super Rugby debut in 2016, is set to engage in a fascinating battle with Brumbies tighthead Allan Ala'alatoa for the Wallabies no.3 jersey with his fellow tighthead having already signed with RA until 2023.
Excuse my ignorance, does the date next to the player mean they play 2022 and then can leave, or does it mean they are secured for 2023 season?

The link for Tupou has "until 2023" which to me sounds like he can leave at the end of this year.

nup, the year listed is the last year of their contract, after which they can leave.

Nah go for Pollard. Big future.
Pollard is signed through 2023, the Fainga'a and Lonergan are off contract.

The alternative might be to just focus on the younger options and aim to get BPA back after the world cup, but that might be too big a gamble without a standout young hooker coming through.

The signings now for the coming few years need to be staggered. We are in a good position going into 2023. Are 4 year contracts still in the fix?

With Lukhan gone and hooker still an issue I wonder if we could pickup both from somewhere? Our lineout has easily been the worst part of our game over the last couple of years, so bringing in the two as a pair and rethinking some of those systems might be a good way to kick start the improvement there.

Would be great to get a brumbies pair of Lonergan/Fainga'a and Swain who's also off contract, but I doubt they'd let Swain go. Could look at Joe Cotton and Sam Jeffries from Bristol I guess, but I'm not sure how they're going or if they've spent that much time together to make it relevant.

Regardless of which hooker is leaving the Reds - all the hookers on the books for 2022 have their share of injury problems over the last few seasons. Signing a Super Rugby ready hooker should be the top priority for the Reds, along with keeping Taniela.

thats right, and none of the current hookers have commanded the spot with the opportunities they’ve had. Mafi is the best, but has also spent a long time in the system and still has his weaknesses.

Bring Swain home and use the international spot on a Hooker while we bring through a young hooker. Unfortunately Nasser just isn't up to scratch and seems to get absolutely bullied.

Don’t take this the wrong way, but I absolutely hate the idea of filling hooker with an international player when you have at least 1 wallaby and 1 future Wallaby left out of the matchday squad in Canberra every week.

Don't know his contract status, but surely Richie Arnold must be worth some serious thought. Almost as good as his twin who is now worth the most (or near) a rugby player ever has been valued.
