Norselander I appreciate your analysis however my read of the Nudgee Churchie game (I was there with some Churchie and Nudgee supporters) was that Nudgee were dominant when RT was on, but once he was off, the Churchie smarts won the game and Nudgee did not adapt well at all. The rushing defence from Churchie unsettled Nudgee and it was a masterstroke in smart rugby. The intercept try towards the end of the game was not luck, it was a consequence of Churchie's rushed defence. Brilliant teams like some of the ABs sides we have seen under pressure adapt to emergency situations. Crisis management. Nudgee didnt do this. Churchie won. It was a great victory. It's in the history books and as a purist in rugby, it was a superb game to watch and appreciate, albeit being on the losing end on this occasion.

Hey Rugby Man - i would like to think we were sitting together as I had a couple of Nudgee supporters behind me who were level headed, Intelligent types who obviously had a good handle on the game.

RT did run riot early on and Churchie fully expected it. He was going to be tough to contain but they knew they had that breeze in the second half so they just needed to keep a lid on things. Lets not forget that the Centres for Churchie being Dre and Frankie are no shrinking violets both, I understand with Professional contracts in place post school too and in the second half they did their share of damage too.

Their rush defence in the 2nd Half did prove instrumental as did "Dre" hefty left? boot which had Nudgee pinned on their goal line for much of the 2nd 35 min.

Your crisis management point is a good one, and perhaps the reason why this Nudgee team will not be considered as one of the greats. To the counter, Nudgee scrum pushed Churchie around all over the park, but Churchie countered with Chanel 1 feeds and quick ball away- they adapted.

I truely enjoyed the game and enjoyed talking with the Nudgee supporters with me after the game. They were knowledgeable of the Nudgee team and I could not help think they were somehow involved in the Nudgee Coaching staff - as was their depth of knowledge. They were a little stunned and shocked at the result but gave credit where credit was due- a couple of class acts. These gents were fair minded and level headed and who loved watching the spectacle of the 2021 ACGS Class of Old boys who were having their first reunion, run out on the field to join their successors in victory. They did not cast morale judgement on these young lads, but embraced the moment.

For mine , I would encourage the 2023 and following years Old Boys to repeat the action witnessed in 2022, and suggest that the other schools work on their old boys spirit rather that cast judgement on others. They should all be proud of their school and they should not in anyway be ashamed of their actions and those " Karens " who criticise the public display of support for their school , should wallow in their own pit of negativity forever. I won't buy it.

Rugby Man, Some very valid comments from you, and if that was you this year sitting with me, unknowingly,I would welcome the opportunity to sit with you at the Next Nudgee Churchie game. I enjoyed your comments and your sportmanship and look forward to further crossing friendly swords with you on this forum.

Isnt that what its all about?

Sometimes the occasion, the rituals, the culture is bigger than then actual result and I know its a great day for the other schools when they knock us off and go on to win the Premiership. Plenty to go yet this season and Nudgee have two big hurdles to get over with the Terrace and Ipswich away games (I wouldn't be surprised if NC drop a game here) and I think the Grammar game with be a danger game for Churchie. TSS will have a hard day in the Fish Bowl also v Terrace in the last round.

I was actually in the Churchie stand before the First's game with a couple of Churchie parents but I then sat with the Nudgee parents in the supporters stand. It was a memorable day for everyone who was there and its now a tremendous venue with the temporary stands so close to the sidelines.

The Burgership: I think Nudgee have really stepped up here. The pavilion on Ross serves the burger straight off the grill and is fresh. The Churchie burger was very nicely packaged but was very tough at lukewarm and crusty bread from sitting in a holding area. There is a a lot of pressure for the Terrace grill this weekend but I am expecting a fine burger from the Terrace Mums. No intel on the other burgers sorry.
Unfortunately due to the flooding earlier this year the GT canteen is out of action. To their credit though they have brought in a bunch of food trucks. I think that rules them out of contention for best home cooked menu though.

As time grows ever so closer to 2:15 this weekend at Tennyson, so does excitement, contention, and chatter. This weekend is more than a game.

The battle of the colours is what binds the schoolboy rugby community in Queensland. In such anticipation, I have made it essential to be in the grandstand with my eyes on several highly rated players. As a former GPS schoolboy and now USA College scout, such an incredible game can bring immense attraction to expand the game over in the states.

Unfortunately, I was mainly focused on witnessing PJ Su'a and Robert Toia live in action head to head, but due to injuries I will have to postpone that excitement.

Yet my hope was brought back into light once I looked further into the GPS system. After seeing highlights from several players across the competition, I'm kicking myself for not being at other games including Churchie Vs Nudgee. But in the future, I hope to be present at every game of the round as this competition consistently grows in talent and is full of future superstars.

Focusing back on this weekend, a few players that I hear often include Le Blanc(N), Bath(N), Xavier(GT) and Munn(GT) hoping they live up to the hype. It will be interesting to see their performance under the pressure of a Terrace Vs Nudgee match which my understanding is one hasn't happened for a while due to Covid-19.

Other notable chatter is Nudgee are clear favourites, but if there's one thing I've learnt from all my years, a game of Footy can go either way.

I hope to participate in such a positive forum in youth Rugby more often, please also recommend other players I should have a further look into across the competition.

Not a true at all, the Nudgee U13 are far from a "big team" the majority of the Nudgee u13 play rugby on Sundays for Norths and Brothers. The Norths team don't even field a team in the division 1 competition and Brothers have forfeited the past 2 weeks. The best rugby competition in Qld at this age is the BJRU Division 1 competition. If you want to see "big" u13 teams have a look at the Logan/Sunnybank/Ipswich division 1 team. All three teams have massive units and when i say massive we are talking 13 year old boys who are over 90KG and close to 190cm. The games are actually some really high quality rugby when they play each other. I would comfortably say these three teams would beat any u13 team in Qld. Nudgee need to wait til they play the u13 State High team...

They are really strong in the BJRU Division 1 area at Sunnybank, my boys always feel the pain when they play against them, 13's are big and 14's especially are massive boys. The 16's are unbeaten, Only got to look at the number of D1 teams they have through to the finals this week in D1.
The question has to asked why do they drop off once they leave the juniors? I know we aren't particularly strong at prems level but we hold our own in grades and Colts, but they go off the table immediately.

Regardless of email addresses, I can assure you this game is one that will be spectated by the Aussie Athletes Agency in cahoots with several colleges in the NCAA and ACCA.

In the coming years, it's likely that schools could begin partnerships with certain colleges like they already do with Australian clubs such as the recent partnership of Dolphins with Nudgee.

As the fanbase continues to grow for schoolboy rugby, so will the opportunities.

And Norselander, well said again, but on one point, I don't think Nudgee and Terrace is "hate". I would describe it as gentlemanly rivalry. Its a very different day to the Nudgee Churchie day where the Churchie supporters really exude the bad feelings towards their guests. This is the showcase of top notch good manners but tough uncompromising rugby but with a firm handshake regardless of the outcome and where the parents of both schools clink their glasses with one another after the game and celebrate what we built together albeit across multiple campuses, and city and country, from the vast cattle stations to the suburban GP, and across generations of families at both schools. This is family. This is the best of the best. This is rugby.
The Gentlemanly rivalry is reinforced by the fact that up to 1,000 supporters of Terrace and Nudgee will be at the Convention Centre this Friday to celebrate the rivalry and the brotherhood of the two schools - Up the micks.

Wow, what a match-up this weekend. Whilst Nudgee are favourites, this battle of the colours game could go anyway. A close margin of 3 points will be the end result. Match-ups of the week are Leblanc vs Munn, Lawrence (NC) vs Xavier, and Bath vs Dunstan. The winners of these individual match ups will decide the game!

Only 1000 supporters for two schools !!! - Are there still Covid restrictions at the convention centre? Churchie had 1000 for one school and thats twice a year.

I love how Friday we have the Gentlemanly Grit your teeth and smile across the lunch table at the Rivals, and then by about 40 min past 2:15 pm Saturday afternoon, the Real "Kick a Mick" convention starts as huge crowd watches both schools bruise the crap out of each other , and get away with cheap shots all over the park, until an all in "throw handbags" at 10 paces erupts. Real Gentlemanly . A rugby spectacle not to be missed for the rest of the schools. We love it!

Nudgee invariably wins, meaning GT pretends that it does not effect them at all, but we all smile and know that it hurts GT, more than Life itself. and for 12 months they suffer in silence, acting all Gentlemanly when they come across a Nudgee Family - Hilarious - and whats more- they think no one knows how much they hurt. To suppress that pain and to act gentlemanly for that long , cannot be healthy.

Regardless, of my insightful Stirring comments, we are all looking forward to what promises to be another memorable day. Good luck both schools and wear your kicking boots.

1000 supporters at $200/head generates a reasonable amount of coin pumped back into the two schools. That’s before auction items and raffles

Unfortunately has gone all league this year with the guest speakers . Nudgee are rolling out Uncle Wayne to sell the Dolphins to all present , while Terrace has asked a favour of Pat Carrigan. Although did hear he may be a late scratching .

It's a lunch on Friday between Nudgee and Terrace i.e. the St. Joseph's lunch. It sells out immediately. Not everything has to be about quantity, it can be about quality. Sometimes less is more. Sure they could make it bigger but it would lose its appeal then as a lunch occasion. They will pull close to 10,000 out there on the rugby day at Terrace's AFL/cricket style oval and stand at Tennyson. Terrace should do what Churchie have done and put up some temporary stands closer to the rugby field's outline which has made a massive improvement to the rugby experience there. Just do it, commit fully to rugby. I really don't like test matches played at the Adelaide Oval, the MCG, the WACCA etc. where you are so far away from the game. I like to watch all levels of rugby on rugby fields not on cricket/AFL fields.

I think Terrace will be favorites this weekend after their victory v IGS and generally how they are building into the season and now at home against Nudgee which will put them in Premiership contention if they win on Saturday. Nudgee are going to struggle to win on Saturday and a one point victory will be a huge relief for the Nudgee supporters if they manage to win. Best of luck to Terrace, if they beat us, I want them to go all the way and get the Premiership for St. Josephs.

Dont like temporary stands myself....for reference Marist Ashgrove have the dimensions right...still plenty of atmosphere from the grandstand...even if hitting 4 is pretty easy square of the wicket....
