Reds 2023

Do we think Tayler Adams is a real shot at getting a gig with the Reds next year? I do.

He's been very solid at 10 and 15 for Brothers and has some professional experience already.

Could be very needed if JOC (James O'Connor) is busted again and/or looking to move.

Yeah, I think it'll be between him and Twidale for the President's XV and Adams is probably in front at the moment. A good performance there will be give him a pretty good shot at being offered something for next year.

The QLD Reds Development XV could look like anything depending on whether we want to pick the likes of Asiata, Smith, Hoopert etc. Also no idea who plays 7s. It may be one of the Connors above.
Wallis is the other potential 7 I think, I know Thorn was a fan of his and if the Reds have decided to pick him back up than he'll slot straight in there. Depending on the selection rules they're operating with they may even play him without a contract on the Reds side of things as a capped player.

As far as the established pros go I think it'll be everyone who's not with Australia A/Wallabies/Injured, but probably a bit of change over between the two games if there's a depth in certain positions - e.g. if Angus Blyth isn't selected for Australia A he might only play limited minutes in the Challenger series. Guessing Vest won't be available either, I think the NPC finals start at the same time and Auckland should at least be in the quarters.

He's a really good player. Was absolutely killing it for West Harbour in the Shute Shield a few years ago which isn't easy to do with them.

Went to the Rebels for an opportunity which you can't blame him, but that place it's also where playmakers go to die. I think he'd be a great option for the Reds and I hope he gets another chance. Could be like Jono Lance given the right circumstance.

Has anyone caught wind on social media about the brisbane broncos playing at the Gabba in 2023 because of the Fifa World Cup… it’s a members only article on couriermail.

wonder if the reds/wallabies schedule is impacted in anyway… let’s take some more fixtures to Townsville or down to CBUS stadium .

"looking at new options" seems to suggest they don't have anyone lined up just yet which is a tad frustrating, moving on someone without a back up?

Super Rugby Pacific will be finished before FIFA World Cup, and given its a RWC year there won't be any July tests anyway. TRC will likely be played late July so that will be impacted, plenty of stadiums to choose from through.

Crappa leaving and new coaches is a good thing. They need new voices but the relationship between the coaches is key. Hope they find the right mix. Could be a lot of experience coming I've heard but they all need to be on the 'right page'.
It'll be very interesting to see how it all shakes out. You'd have to think at least one of the coaches coming in will be someone they feel would be a strong candidate to take over from Thorn in the next few years.

I thought of Lillicrap as our secret weapon. Sad to see him go.

Isn't it a little odd to be changing the guard with Thorn in his last year (of contract anyway). I would usually hope by year 4 (that is right isn't it) that things would be settling around HC preferences and relationships.

The impact of covid was pretty significant on the coaching staff and I think we're still feeling the effects of that. I imagine the budget had been pretty limited and the changes now are in part because there's some stability and capacity to recruit again.

Can’t say I’m surprised to see Lillicrap go, the scrummaging and props haven’t progressed as they should have the past 18 months. With all the Tupou talk, it might be a means to extract more out of him.

True that. He was spectacular before that though.

As a betting man, I am willing to put a couple of bucks on the transition happening before the end of next year. It will highly dependent upon results though.
