Summer cricket 2022/23

The tactics in the second innings were a disaster.

They should have realised they had it wrong much sooner and pivoted but potentially it was already too late.

That's what test cricket can come down to though. We had one abysmal session and that was the match. We'd probably won four or five of the six sessions prior to that.

I'm not sure the injured players are the issue. From what I can see we've taken more players than we would often take on a test tour to compensate. I don't think there's another all rounder we left at home who would play instead of Green for example.

So with all the injuries are we looking at:

1 Head
2 Khawaja
3 Marnus
4 Smith
5 Hanscombe
6 Green
7 Carey
8 Starc
9 Lyon
10 Cummins
11 Kuhneman

I think its Warner, Hazlewood and Murphy out injured?

I have this sick feeling if Green is able to bowl that we may see Agar because he can hold a bat to a certain degree. He may actually be able to turn it on these wickets but he isn't a Test standard player. I'd much rather Head & Smith bowl for a combined 10-15 overs per innings.

Agar and Hazlewood are on the way home. And possibly Renshaw.

This is shaping up to be the tour from hell. Or to hell.

Why the lng break between Tests? Was there a tour match of some sort scheduled then cancelled? Possibly timely from Australia's POV but seems a long time to be on tour but not playing.

Going five days is an accolade for this England team given the way they play. It showcases their experience that they remain in games that go this long.

Thoughts on the line up?

I would have gone with 2 spinners Lyon and Murphy with Boland in there to tie up an end. Starc and Green both coming off injuries and Starc at times returning very ordinary after time off. Hope I'm wrong but I would have liked a rotation of quicks from one end and a spinner working from another the whole time as foot marks start.

Starc was on fire in that first over. Pretty bullshit from the ump
