I'm glad to hear that steps are being taken by the P&C to make / force change. High was always a tough competitor in my day and it would be great to see some sort of renaissance occur there.
This is great news for High. From what I hear they have withdrawn their 1st cricket team this year and as always the High boys don’t fair so well at the Head of the River

This Association never disappoints…

Newington Rugby Season Launch

The season is launching on the 6th of May and what better way to start it than a long lunch on FRIDAY, 5th MAY with amazing guest speakers, Eddie Jones, Morgan Turinui and Brett Kimmorley!

It will be a great lunch filled with lively conversation, interviews with our speakers, auctions, prizes and our 1st XV will be receiving their jerseys. It will also be a celebration for ALL our players across all teams in the launch of a great season.

I'm surprised - I watched them play a few years ago and they had a strong spin bowling line up.

Tomorrow marks the end of the Summer Sports (Basketball, Cricket etc) with Rowers finishing next Sat 25th at the HOTR.

Kings begin their Rugby internal trials next week (Opens - on Tues/Thurs) with the Sat being compulsory attendance at HOTR for all Year 7-12.
From Sunday 26th Cadet advance parties leave for Singleton with the Main group leaving Thurs 30th with all returning on the last day of Term 1 (Wed 5th).

For a select group of 1st/2nd and 3rd hopefuls there is a camp with more internal trials in the holidays.

On the first Sat of Term 2 there is a trial against St Augustine’s, the second Sat there is a trial against Scots, the third Sat is Round 1 for 1st and 2nd comps.

Not a lot of time for selectors.

The new 10 round comp for 1sts and 2nds will be interesting to watch unfold

From what I know, Sydney High still plays in the 1s for Cricket. Unlikely they've withdrawn.

Agree trelllianz, looks like High beat Shore in the first XI today and were very competitive with vocal support at the swimming last night
For the first time in a while, I have not seen Sydney High engage in extra-curricular sporting activities at SOPAC. Although, still outnumbered by a few schools around the 200-300 mark, Shore and High went at it with the chants. Some visibly irritated, Shore parents over Sydney High's 'daddy's money,' chant.

High use to always hit the View & Joeys boys with Rock Chopper chants at HOTR.

Would be on the front page if they ever retorted.

“Daddy’s money”? dumbest chant ever…. they’re literally ALL kids … who do you thinks paying for them all ?? aaannnnnd “ daddy’s money” includes high boys and all their extra afternoon private Tutors ….

Difference is, every other school would get thrown over hot coals if they made chants about high…
You are very naive if you think that High don't get chants aimed at them. I have heard many chants and some that I wouldn't share in public that were incredibly racist.

There are 2 ways you can look at it :

Obviously, Joker's subtle ( and sometimes not so sublte ) way of sterotyping certain schools/groups as a "joke " therefore the chants by schoolboys may be received as a joke ( as long as they don't cross the thin line of being racist )
or
The school the chant is directed to is offended whereby the school that does the chanting should pull their heads in ( again thin line between being funny and offending someone ).

IMO, there are teachers around the schoolboys and if they seem fine with it, then let the boys have some fun, even though I agree Goosestep that chanting "daddy's money" is a bit hypocritical.

Back in the 1970's schools would sit side by side in what ever grandstand they had (McKay oval was terrible to watch). The two schools would try to out cheer one another. In 2022 I described what it was like to sit next to Newington in year 7 and be called "catholic c%#ts" by them. The chants by Newington were appalling as well. No humor at all. Grammar were fun....they would chant "Bring on the HSC results" They had a point. Once they dominated academics before the State government created UBER academic schools. Did you know James Ruse used to play Waratah Shield?

Not just played but were considered a strong Rugby school. I coached a team against them one year and sadly, they were a shadow of their former selves and that was in the early 90s.
