In this duo act of stupidity with McLennan's ego, Eddie Jones has never shown an ability to ID young talent, his preference is for tried and proven.

P.S. Eddie Jones couldn't give a tinker's curse about whether RA goes broke or not he will sail off to retirement content in his lot.

Are we going around in circles?

I feel like we had these exact same discussions a few months ago...

Are you sure Marinos wasn't the one who brokered this and McLennan is just living off his work? Doesn't strike me as a guy who could handle the details necessary to put a deal like that together.
Regarding broadcast rights I would be surprised if someone was stupid enough to up the broadcast deal based on the promise of great eyeball attraction in a 19 year old untried gamble...
Marinos wasn’t even at RA when broadcast neogtiations with Nine/Stan were finalised and the bid for hosting the RWC was submitted.

Cue moral outrage all you like, fact of the situation is McLennan has filled Director or Chairman roles at Network 10, News Corp and HT&E(Australian Radio Network) and worked on sports broadcast deals previously like the BBL. More recently the Nine/Stan negotations and RWC2027 bid. So what facts are you basing your argument on that he is stupid and cant handle deals?

And I've just read Hamish the mouth has sworn he will get another leaguey for ONLY 1.2m a year, some guy called Haas.

Wouldn't you love to be a young talented kid in rugby ATM?

Imagine that… reading about rugby in the headlines… who would have thought
You can read about a lot of crap anytime you like. The only news I want to read is that we won the Bledisloe and RA is making money. Don't quote the 5m profit until we all know where it came from? Note: We were cash strapped only last December when the 7m was sent over.

What a load of nonsense. Eddie plucked a specific guy called Matt Giteau from no where to play in the national squad before he had played a provincial game. He’s also on record for inviting a bright eyed Marcus Smith at 16 into the England camp saying he is a future international.

But Rugby Australia isn't spending their money, it's money gifted for a specific reason. It's identical to Universities and endowments.

what was the specific reason? don't think it would be a gamble on a 19 year old potential wonder kid who we were too stupid to take whilst at school or Rugby Australia was focused on other things that amounted to two parts of piss all.

In this case, Joseph Sua'ali'i...

In other cases... David Pocock, Izzy somebody, Tupou etc.

In the idiot stakes, I think you might be leading and also suffering from short term memory issues. To quote you "In this case, Joseph Sua'ali'i..."

Try again, and maybe google Australian Rugby Foundation.

I’m not to down play Marinos as we all have no idea what went on. However it’s as clear as day that all the restructuring and cost cutting happened under Rob Clark.

And then didn't play him until the press forced his hand and then had so much faith in Smith he had Farrel doing most of the 10 work.
I didn't remember this about Giteau so I looked up WIki - he played for the Brumbies in 2001 and for the Wallabies in 2002. Hardly plucked out of nowhere!

He saved Rugby Australia from insolvency and the game regressing to amateurism by making these bold calls, his ego also managed to secured a more equitable revenue sharing agreement for broadcast rights. People are quick to forget, he has earned the right in my opinion.

I also think theres a bigger picture going on here with guys like Suali’i that people are missing, it’s no coincidence it’s happening now during a period that they’re negotiating their private equity value and broadcast rights extensions.
I’d back Max Jorgensen as a more exciting and promising player than JS….. and he came straight to rugby on far less less money… just saying.

We are in a decent state with the talent we have atm and I haven't seen us this well off in terms of potential for a very long time. The big question is can we take advantage of it? If we keep on buying the league dream I am guessing we will lose the potential of our youngsters to take a punt on the potential of very expensive league players.

Actually that's precisely the reason - my understanding is that a benefactor wanted him in rugby & said to RA "here's a bunch of money to get X playing for the Wallabies"
