Queensland Reds 2026

Crashy

Aiden Ross and Brial's continued improvement look like the big positives and room for improvement on this year for 2026 so far (as well as some better band aids to keep more players on the field)
Yeah I thought Brial was solid. We HAVE to pay overs for big forwards and backs who are coming through the system. Look at the size difference with the Lions. We have the players coming through - just need to selectively play moneyball.

Brial's greatest attribute is that he runs angry and gets over the advantage line. Uru and Wilson are much more useful for the way the Reds play under Les Kiss, but we were begging for another Brial-type player against the Lions.

This thread is (now) almost as retarded as most of the schoolboy rugby threads. Which is saying something.
Move along.

whenever I see a poster with frank row (1) below their username you can usually track back to their first post being in schoolboy rugby threads.

it would appear teenage boys are entering an adult rugby forum (use that term loosely) and bring their schoolboy humour to serious rugby threads.

Sarcasm. Never go full nugget everyone.
Making a strawman out of my post because a forum troll has you rattled doesn't say great things about you either.

The Reds frequently struggled to exit properly which is attributable to not getting front foot ball. Wanting another physical presence that can generate front foot ball is not the same thing as saying we need to be putting another borderline Super Rugby starter up against Test quality players.

Hardly rattled mate.
Was just trying to point out that this is the reds 2026 thread. It’s pretty obvious we don’t need to go crazy with getting bigger back rows options (like brial). We’re very well covered there. What we do need is 2nd row options with Blyth and smith departing. They do a lot of the unsexy ruck work that allows us to control or slow down the ball.

Reds had the 2nd best gainline carry percentage in super rugby (after the Blues) and 5th best of any club in the world, generating front foot ball was not the problem. We do have an issue with carries committing multiple tacklers, but that's generally been more of an issue for our attack and creating line breaks (though it is probably also part of why our offload game is so effective).

Our exit issue are more down to tactics and the players we have to run those exits - things are generally okay with Lynagh out there, but we struggle when he's gone (or out of the play) as we don't have too many alternatives to step up around long, tactical kicking and generally avoid it as a result. It's where we really missed Petaia and Henry this year, as both offer quite a bit more in this space, in support of the main play makers.

It was interesting seeing Jock taking restart kicks and kicking for touch over HMP. Hopefully the offseason gives him room to develop a bigger boot.
