Wallabies v Japan 25 Oct

On a wet day, keeping it close and in front of the pigs is not an unusual game plan

Especially with that backline, it shouldn't have gone wide until there was a three man overlap

And we had overlaps but a good rush from their outside centre killed it.

I don't think many here have coached or played in actual wet weather conditions ;)

It didn't matter what Tizzano did.

The problem was Nonggorr not being bound to the maul and engaging with the Japanese defenders in front of the ball.
Just blatant obstruction. Valetini probably worth pinging for the same thing on this play too.

Really sloppy maul work from Australia (but probably to be expected given the amount of training they'd done together, and with no locks)

They had a penalty advantage 3 separate times, that's essentially a free shot to go wide. Edmed should have been calling for it the second the ref put his arm out

No. we needed a few thousand more pick and drives and we would have scored!!

It's one of the few areas where a R360 type competition can easily innovate to incentivise more daring attacking play.

E.g. 3 point tries scored from within 5m and a 1 point conversion, 5 point tries and 2 point conversions from 5m - 22m, and 5 and 3 for tried scored from outside the 22.

One of the current stains on modern rugby is the reality that the pick and drive from 1m out is so effective and "safe"

It is just so boring
Virtually impossible to stop - if the ref cracks down on the offside line.

In just about every famous goal line stand (including these ones by Japan) the players are offside at virtually every breakdown

A change as simple as allowing players to have their feet behind the line, but hands on the ground in front of the offside line would make a much fairer contest. You wouldn't even need to change the laws or defintiions

15.4 Each team has an offside line that runs parallel to the try line through the hindmost point of any ruck participant. If that point is on or behind the try line, the offside line for that team is the try line.

Beyond or behind or in front of a position - Means with both feet, except where the context makes that inappropriate.

I was finally able to watch it last night, gee that was a tough watch (as pretty much the entire world has said).

Being overly optimistic - how much of that was a "don't show em" tactic for the rest of the tour? (Not seriously suggesting it was - but if it was, it nearly didn't come off)

The game already has enough technical rules, this would be a nightmare to referee and i suspect would have us checking with the TMO after most tries

Yes. Innovation!

NO! 2 weeks is understandable, and a break during the year, but 4 weeks between games is bordering on boredom.
soft tissues will appreciate it ...

even if a try is scored from within 5m the attacking team got it to within 5m immediately before so no not from me.
and definitely not 3 for any goal including penalties. old argument but it's still a valid point

Or make failure more harsh, like .............................. held up over the line a 22m kick
