Steve Mafi to Leicester Tigers.
About time someone in the professional ranks recognized his ability.

Went to the Uni v Easts game today and it was very encouraging from a Uni point of view. Uni played their usual game focussing on a strong set piece. They were very good at scrum time and clearly dominated what should be a good Easts scrum with Shepherdson, Edmonds and Ofa up front. Line outs were a bit patchy in the first half but improved when Nathan Charles came on in the second half for Uni. The blustery conditions didn't help. Huia Edmonds had his problems throwing in as well. Uni seemed to click just before and just after half time and played some of their best rugby of the year in this period scoring some excellent tries capped off by a beauty for the bonus point from Trist hitting the ball hard on a great angle about 35m out and sprinting through untouched.

Best for Uni were Tilse who had his best game for the year, Dave Dennis, Tim Davidson and Cutch. Tom Carter had some good moments and a fierce duel with Ryan Cross and Inman looked ominous in his 1st grade return with some big hits and strong runs.
None of the Easts forwards stood out for me, but McKibbin looked sharp and threatening even behind a beaten pack, and To'omua had some nice touches. Cross had a crack and made some hard hits and Debartolo scored a freakish try that only he could conjure up.

All in all an excellent game to watch especially considering the conditions and very encouraging for Uni. This is still a very open comp and the finals will be fascinating.

I reckon Eastwood can do it. Half a heart decision, but I genuinely think they have the cattle, the ticker and the momentum to do it this year. Last year they became a speed bump for Uni after a gallant effort in the last week before the finals against the same team, and I think they'll be better (and harder) for the experience.

Maybe the Woodies can get to the GF, if they can keep their best XV on the paddock. But I doubt they can beat the Corporation.

As in the Brumbies flanker Michael Hooper? I thought playing a flanker in the centres would end with George Smith's run?

I would give them a good chance of winning if they have Robinson and Alexander. Uni's scrum has not been as strong this year.

Ridiculous. Maybe the idea is to give him a chance to develop his ball running gave so he can be a link man loose forward.

Still... it's a bit stupid.

I would think that Manly think the players in the backrow are too good not to be playing first grade. Manly have been using second grade fill in's like Joe Metuisela and Chris Yarrington the last few weeks in the backs since the departure of Adam D'Arcy. Andrew Smith can kick for them now he is back.

sorry is Ryan Schultz, the hooker for Randwick, the same Ryan Schultz who has just played the season for Norths up here in Briso?

That's fucked sorry, how can that happen?

He is as quick as most backs (he was a beach sprint champion as a young bloke), he reads the game well.
It is not the same as playing George there.
but I am a fan of his for a long time..........

Anyone got any money on someone other than Uni winning the flag? They dominated Easts on the weekend.
I think Eastwood and a full strength Randwick could both do it. Eastwood will miss Stannard and Turner (Clth games 7s duties) if they get to the GF, however. I don't think Uni are as strong this year for one big reason. No Daniel Halangahu. He makes a huge difference at this level.
