I don't really think it matters too much what he said, it was just a form of sledging. However these actions need to be cracked down on otherwise they will occur more often.

Every team has players that the opposition will target and some times try to take out. It's up to the team leadership to be aware of that and make sure that your own enforcers are on hand to make sure it doesn't happen. Rocky seems to ride shotgun at the breakdown with Bam these days and I think that's a good thing.

This is how I see it.

1/ Referee was justified in giving the red card.

2/ With two tacklers, the ref sould of consulted the TMO to make sure he marches the right man (I don't know he if can but if he can't it needs to be looked at). I think Fairbanks should of got the card as it was his intervention that turned the tackle ugly. Why was Farbanks not sighted after the match?

3/ Why was Hargraves not carded for the elbow to Sidey's head after the tackle. Deliberate attacking of the head is card worthy and the ref acknowleged it happened when he warned Hargraves.

4/ I find it more important for the referee to maintain a safe playing environment during the game than it is for him to be concerned about ruining the game.

Well it's all old news now.
I still believe it was a terrible game for the ref. He warned sharks players for strait up card offenses and carded force players for well one deserved and one not.

He made it look like he was favoring one team. I was surprised because after one team has a yellow or red the ref is usually very hard on the other team. Anyway I've had my rant and lets move on too next week. I'm sure there will be more talk about another game come sunday.

Go the force!!!!

Skotman dont tell me you want them to cut down on sledging. Your cricketers teached us that art.

PB, I don't reckon they required too much tuition on that ;)

Nothing wrong with sledging, per se, so long as it isn't followed up with actual acts of violence.

Boet we all know rugby has this special spirit, what happen between the four lines, stays there, pretty sure Jannie Doep will be the first one to have a cold one with PoCock after the game and they would had a big laugh about the incident. Our lot play each other endlessly and its just the way we play specially the Sharks and Brutes lot. Rugby aint for the faint hearted, thats for sure.

I'm pretty confident Pocock wouldn't have sat down for a cold one after the game with the guy who put him out for 4-6 weeks through an act of illegal thuggery, in a world cup year. The very fact that he tweeted what he did suggests he didn't think it was cool, unless you choose not to read any irony into the tweet.

When Pocock released the ball he was rotated to the side and his leg was relatively free. Some forward rolled towards him trapping him and the good doctor pulled him back. Was that bad luck that the leg was pinned when Jannie pulled him back by the neck?

Hmm. Players tweeting sledges.

Not sure where I stand on this...

Surely some things stay on the park?

Doesn't seem wise does it, Pocock gets a target on his head next time he plays and there is no tangible benefit.

Sure his Aussie followers now know JdP said mean words, but really, that happens at every ruck if you listen carefully to sportsears.

Even more reason that by tweeting a comment such as what he did is not exactly going to endear him to his fellow professionals!!

Not Cool!

Pocock just tweeted that jannie called him and that there is no hard feelings

JdP is a doctor, right? If so, I'd be surprised if he would actually break a bloke's neck. I bloody hope not anyway. He rendered assistance to Shawn McKay from memory, which means he's a good bloke off the paddock in my books.

Correct on both accounts. Heat of the moment stuff.

Players have patched up differences but the further update today is that SANZAR will take at look at the incident after all. So they should.

UPDATE:

NICK TAYLOR: West Oz said:
Super Rugby's governing body is investigating the incident in Saturday's Western Force loss to the Sharks that left Force star flanker David Pocock sidelined for up to six weeks.

Pocock, who will be out for up to six weeks with medial ligament strain in his right knee, was caught in a ruck as Sharks prop Jannie du Plessis grabbed his head and pulled him backwards.

SANZAR told The West Australian they had not received an official complaint but would begin an inquiry today.

A war of words blew up over the incident, although that seems to have cooled. The normally reserved Pocock was clearly upset when he later tweeted: “Next time, I’ll break your f*cking neck." - Jannie du Plessis, Sharks prop and all-round nice guy. Haha, what a good bloke....”

But today he tweeted: "Got a call from Jannie du Plessis last night - ended up having a good chat. No hard feelings. All sorted. Gd luck to Sharks v the Rebels."

However, that may not be enough to prevent the inquiry into the incident that was missed by New Zealand rookie referee Keith Brown. Brown, who later sent off Force centre Rory Sidey and yellow carded winger Nick Cummins, did not stop play and the Sharks scored their first try.
