it does entice the question why the change in posistion for opl, as this change could well cost him a spot in the gps team!
I couldn't agree with you more, personally opl deserves a gps jersey but maybe in the 2's or possibly the 3's on his recent form as I watched him play in the joeys bs newington game and I believe he didn't live up to his hype

i think you'd have to be mad to say he doesn't deserve a spot in 2s, but yes whether or not he should get into 1s over other "specialist" props is a different story

Are you expecting Tom Robertson to be injured or something ? only given players IMO are Robertson, Rorke, Dempsey, Whitely, Horowitz and Kellaway. Jim Stewart will be there too if not injured and based on last year.

Everything you have stated about the Newington players is again incorrect in my opinion (disregarding Vea). there is simply no way put you can have opl over Robertson. as i have said time and time again, Robertson has been by far the in form player of the trial games thus far, and personally against Joeys, it was obvious to point out that Robertson 'stood out' far more than Pryor lees. in my perspective, opl doesnt deserve to be even in the GPS twos side, but because of lack of depth in that department, he would most probably get the place in the 2's, but not over Robertson. even then when he does play for a GPS side whether 2's or 3's or whether he even does play, his ability in the scrum will be obviously flawed, and at that level scrummaging does ponder in the minds of the selectors. to match this again i repeat, his presence against Joeys was unenergetic and disapointing, where his lethargy in general play and part of the set piece was frankly disapointing - his size in my opinion is the only bet he has to get him into a GPS side.

But other than the other Newington guys that deserves to be in the 1's in my opinion is Vea. everyone else in that team seems to be pretty accurate.

wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong if this is serious our gps team would honestly be a dissapintment!. like i previously stated its picked on form players in there havnt been performing i.e cannel, dempsey, lussick, milne all players are pure class simply put. but havnt playerd to the hype attached to their names at all in the past 3 games. i understand some are "injured" some are "overated" but sorry that isn't quite the team at all.

I'm waiting for the post one day to tell that players such as rorke, dempsey, stewart, lussick, milne, deegan have all reached their full potential and really shut a few people up (including myself) they simply havnt played to what they are capable of and their may be factors to considered into why not but still.....

Also in their favour is a dream draw. Newington have only won at View's home ground once in the last decade, Kings not since 2002 and Scots not since the 90's. Like a Wallabies team touring New Zealand, this place has a track record of sending many a great team away disappointed throughout the years. Teams with a much bigger advantage than the incumbent schools that will be visiting in 2012. The Kings sides of 08' and 09' with more than half of the Australian Schoolboys in their ranks will attest to that.

I believe they lost at home against kings in 2010, can't remember the score but fairly certain the only thing view had to cheer about was a consolation swan dive try from an intercept in the last minute.

Must agree with you SM, however i do disagree with your statement regarding rorke and milne not performing. i agree that dempsey and stewart havnt been on form and from what i have heard in some cases been dominated by the oppostion, but especially based on what they did last year, the selectors will most probably place them in the GPS 1's. Rorke has been an obvious force for the riverview boys where his part in set piece, defence and attack is pretty outstanding, and over that of any other second rower in the GPS. Milne is also a particularly skillful player and against Joeys last weekend, would have had to be their standout player - where in both attack and defence he threatened. he made a mock of Barclay (who played GPS 1's last year) but in other games Barclay has shown why he deserves to be in the GPS 1's jersey. your statements about lussick, deegan and dempsey are backed up by myself, especially Lussick who has been shown as being a weak link as a part of the Newington team.

Sky Blue and white tinted glasses off and try again

Don't own a pair of those. Interesting thing is that in your post at #1010 you named two of the three kings players I have suggested. My only addition was Jones who IMO is the most likely of their players to be selected in GPS firsts.

well like i said before (i'll have to tone it down this time) - i really felt matthews outplayed him and therefore there would surely be a better option, but i guess it is in the selectors hands now and we'll have to wait and see what they come up with.. but i agree entirely with your comments regarding the difference between LHP and THP and it should be something they consider

You obviously know where the "shift" key is to describe the positions - how about using it in your posts! You aren't texting now - or are you! General English I'm guessing.

CTPE - don't dignify with a comment! The summary of the trials so far was the most lucid contribution up to date ( apologies to serious contributors ) and I suggest the moderators axe everything after that!

Here is my take on the GPS teams. The depth in the three quarters and back row is quite amazing this year and I've no doubt guys will be picked in the 2nds and 3rds who are probably good enough for the 1sts. There are only 15 spots in the 1sts, however, so here goes:

GPS Firsts

1: Piggy Robertson (J) (Been in outstanding form in 2012; 2011 - GPS 3)
2: Vea (N) (Been in outstanding form in 2012)
3: Carolan (J) (Could also play hooker in 2s)
4: Rorke (R) (Has to be 1s based on 2011)
5: Cannell (N) (Been in outstanding form in 2012)
6: Dempsey (R) (Has to be 1s based on 2011)
7: Murphy (J) (2011 - GPS 3)
8: Whitely (R) (2011 - GPS 2)
9: Curtain (J) (If fit - in an ordinary field in 2012)
10: Horwitz (S) (Has to be 1s based on 2011)
11: Foketi (K) (2011 - GPS 2)
12: Stewart (S) (Has to be 1s based on 2011)
13: Barclay (J) (Has to be 1s based on 2011)
14: Pople (N) (Been in outstanding form in 2012; 2011 - GPS 3)
15: Kellaway (S) (Has to be 1s based on 2011)

Comments

I've put Foketi on the wing ahead of Redden and Wilde but any of them may be picked there.
Stewart and Barclay should be in 1s based on 2011 rep honours.
Cannell is a bolter but he's pretty much been New's best forward in 2012.
Sandel may get picked in front of Carolina
Halfback stocks are pretty average this year. Wouldn't be surprised if Lussick or Pulver get picked.

This is an outstanding GPS team and, IMO, is of NSW standard. It should put a world of hurt on CAS and CHS.

GPS Seconds

1. Pryor - Lees (N) (Devastating ball runner; learning front row craft)
2. Heffernan (J)
3. Sandel (J)
4. Cutler (R)
5. O' Donnahue (J)
6. Goldie (J)
7. Watts (J)
8. Randel (K)
9. Lussick (N) (has been solid in an ordinary field in 2012)
10. Deegan (J) (2011 - GPS 3)
11. Redden (R) (2011 - GPS 2)
12. Milne (N) (Devastating attack & defence)
13. Tepai (N) (Devastating attack & defence)
14. Vlahos (N) (Back to 2010 form - powerful ball runner)
15. Wilde (J) (Playing fullback for Joeys; 2011 - GPS 3)

Comments

I've picked Tepai and Milne in the centres. Best GPS 2s centre pairing since Roods and Foketi in 2011
Wilde is playing fullback for Joeys but may get picked on wing in 1s
Vlahos is back to his best 2010 form after a forgettable 2011
Deegan deserves a run in the 2s

GPS Thirds

1. Ahosivi (N) (NSW U16s; In good form 2012)
6. Prassas (N) (Been in outstanding form in 2012)
9. Pulver (E)
12 Kay (J) (2011 - GPS 3)
14. Jones (K)
15. Hood (N) (A bolter but been in good form 2012)

I haven't seen enough teams play to make a full 3s.

I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions.

what i believe to be the best team to represent the GPS schools, i believe the year 12 boys should get the nod over the year 11 boys just because of experience. This is why i wont be surprise with a center pairing of stewart/barclay again!

I would say Jones could easily challenge the wingers in the 1's if not 2's and Pulver could do the same in 2's. However this is a pretty solid team and i would expect it to be mostly correct especially the likes of Whitely, Rorke, Dempsey, Horowitz, Kellaway, Robertson. Also confused as Heffernan is in your GPS 2's and is in Joeys 2nds.

Pretty spot on with the firsts and your comments about the wingers and centres, experience is important, only possible change is that O'Donnahue could take Cannell's place. O'Donnahue has been pretty good but definitely one of those two. With the seconds i believe Kay should get the no. 10 jersey over Deegan based on experience and recent form. Who would you have as your captains for the 1's and 2's?

Also RugbyGirl11 if you are basing your choice on scrummagging i would definitely choose Sandell over Carolan. if that is the case then Carolan would push Heffernan out of 2's as Carolan is almost on song with Vea anyway.

GPS selectors seem to go for tough forwards as captains - Wells and Walters in 2011. I'd go with Rorke for the 1s.

Sandell wouldn't be out of place in the 1s. Carolan could play hooker as well but I like Vea - he is a warrior. If the selections were being made later in the season, when the bigger forwards are match fit, then Ahosivi comes into the frame as he has played NSW Under 16s
