It falls under the category of 'giving back ' to the school
try do an Anzac march in town while playing a set of pipes for 2 hrs and tell me its not a sport.......especially when you're in year 7 with a new reed....give me 120 mins agst anyone ..

sounds like you need to focus on the NSW Band competitions for Schools. I wonder if there is one for marching bands or cadets? Kings should be good for this one having the largest cadet force in Oz (notwithstanding the whole school dresses like one)! Will you be asking the AOC or the ACGC to nominate pipe bands as a new sport? or will it qualify under nomination from ACC/ASC attention in their joint reports? if their nomination (IOC/CGC) is made public I will be happy to refer to Scots' worldclass pipers as 'sportsmen'.

My Grandfather wisely said "Never play an instrument you have to wear. You will never pick up a girl wearing bagpipes, piano accordians or tubas"

A wise old sage I would say.

While you're firing up: does ASADA have jurisdiction over "pipe" bands?

NSW band competitions we already win..no extra focus needed....GPS Premiership( home and away finally the result of a Scotsman) guess that extra leg and lung work may help us ....Might be a good place to focus...guess then you'll be happy to class the "Scots pride" as sportsmen...by the way got enough references but if I need your blessing I'll be sure to ask nicely.....

The definition of a gentleman; He knows how to play the bagpipes... But chooses not to.

Plesase read Brian Westlakes inference earlier. post #966.

You know what they say about bagpipes and motor vehicle collisions don't you? The same noise and no one comes out a winner

Its funny the only time anyone wants me to play them is when I'm at a rugby game agst Scotland and there's usually enough howling going on that i can claim I did...

Riverview's 2nds also enjoyed their road trip to Eddies running out winners 44-12.

Some teams seem way ahead of others at this stage of the pre season and there may be a few under done teams come round 1 of the GPS. At Scots last weekend we had our 7's tournement where Riverview played and now they've followed it up with a trial against Eddies this weekend and Joeys trialled too against Ashgrove. Are Newington, Kings or Shore trialling before the upcoming holidays or holding rugby camps in the holidays?

I believe that Newington's first trial is on May 4 v Oakhill.

A young looking side there. Strong centres but the foward pack isn't great IMO. Jack Mcgregor should expect some hostile treatment, especially after what View did to Deegan a few years back and how effective that was. Considering Mcgregor is smaller then Deegan was, I expect hell be having nightmares with Kamp, Hanigan, Cannell and McCallam putting some pressure on him.

Further to my updates on the state of Grammar rugby.
I had the pleasure to listen to Lachlan Fear tonight and was very impressed with his attitude and philosophy.
Its fair to say that many of the parents listening had little or no background in rugby.
I think they were a little surprised that a rugby dude could be humourous, self effacing and obviously concerned for the welfare of the entire child.
He spoke of goals and that achieving them would not be measured on the score board alone, one of those being to broaden the boys experience of rugby. Many if not most have no understanding of the social aspects of rugby - which are the most important for 99.9% of the players, IMHO.
He wants to challenge the boys - the subtext was that they need to set their sporting goals higher and strive for them.
All worthy stuff.
This was delivered to a group of 13 and 14 year olds about to depart for NZ - so the work is being done at the grass roots.
I continue to be encouraged.
The Grammar 1st XV played a mixture of Cranbrook's 1s, 2s and 3s on Saturday and won: there would be kids missing for athletics. I see this as encouraging too. My prediction is that Grammar 1s will do very well against the GPS 3rd XVs - they should probably be playing the 2s but that is not doable, I know.
I can see a future but I cannot say when.
