6 is ridiculous.
However only 2 are currently in the 20's squad.
Luckily,I don't have share the selectors view, that all of these 6 are in fact the best of the crop.
Assuming Randwick actually have juniors, they will need to field 10 of them with maximum deductions to start 5 of these rockstars in a game.
Very unlikely...

I'll give Poidevin some credit: he has been working very hard to get continuity in their juniors through to colts but I'm not sure if the benefits would have started to flow yet

Bile is green as well MACCA.
The infamous Green Slime Call.

LOL - I deserved that.
Randwick have developed a pathway for young players that seems to be attracting good young talent.
That model is hardly original & seems to have worked well elsewhere...
If it brings more players into the game rather than other codes I am pleased its happening.
Well done Randwick.
They are not the only ones, maybe the others a just a bit behind where Randwick are at present which explains the representative numbers.

I think you're all reading too much into it. There's been some insane changes to the points cap this year and they came late in the pre season. Add this to the fact that aatleast 8 clubs have new GM's who may not yet be across the changes and indeed the points cap entirely.

A number of the clubs also have a 'bug' in their ARU online registration account that does not reset the individual player's points cap every January 1st. I know I've experienced this fault and continue to do so.

So there's clearly legit excuses here that need to be explored before we point the bone.

Add never fear, the ever efficient Comp Manager is aware of all the first round inaccuracies. quote="the coach, post: 586522, member: 6804"]Name and shame time -- here are the culprits:
Norths
Gordon
Penrith
Souths (especially!)
Warringah

Strange they all lost except Warringah [/quote]

Thanks for the insight Belly, I was hoping there would be some mitigating factors.

Isn't it more likely the work of Nick Ryan who is handy in spotting talent. I think he was at Syd Uni quite a few years ago?

Correct, he was apart of the Syd Uni club for a number of years before heading to the Rebels before making his way to Randwick. He seems to be the most valuable addition to the Randwick club this season implementing a similar off-field structure that off the Students.

Nick had an extraordinary record with Sydney Uni at Colts level. If I remember correctly he coached or co-coached for eight seasons from Third Colts initially through to First Colts. In each of those seasons he took his team to the Grand Final, losing only once, in 2006 when Uni First Colts were beaten by 4 points.

If you look at why all the Scots players(someone said about 20) are at Randwick I would tend to suggest it's the work of Wade Kelly who coached the 1st XV two seasons ago.

A lot of these players would have been at Easts/Uni etc a few seasons ago.

Improved talent spotting at the Wicks? Unlikely.

One of their new recruits represented Aust Schoolboys 3 years in a row. Now, occasionally the State and National Schoolboy Rep Selectors get a few selections wrong from time to time, but even Blind Freddy could see that Kellaway was good.

It is not Talent Spotting that the Wicks have improved in but Talent Attraction. Some rather cruelly call them Scots College Old Boys, but they have managed to recruit some of the cream from Joeys and Newington in recent times as well.

This influx of talent seems to be at the expense of their local lads, and in the long term this may seriously unravel the club, although some would say that Wicks have been doing this for years. The strategy for the past few years seems to have been to import as many developed players as they can, and then fill the gaps with their home grown product, rather than the other way around. This year seems to be no different with most of the First Grade team playing their first season in Myrtle Green.

There are probably some good signs for the future with the recent formation of the Randwick Academy, but this will take at least 5 years of investment before those 14-16 year olds are popping up in 1st Grade.

All that good work with the locals could get undone, if the local boys see that their loyalty will be rewarded with at best a place in 2nds behind the latest imported rock star.

It will be a free market and many of the more aspirational of the Randwick Academy boys will go where they feel they have the best opportunity to play at the highest level that they are capable of playing at. That may not be the Wicks.

Loyalty is a two way street. Wicks Academy losses could be gains for other clubs.

The above situation is not unique to Wicks, any club promoting imported rock stars over locally developed lads runs this risk.

It is good for the overall competition that Uni is having some competition from Manly, Norths, and now Wicks for the "annointed ones" from Juniors/Schools. Gordon, Wests, Souths, Woodies and Parramatta dont seem to be too far behind.

Undoubtedly, something had to give to break the Uni dominance. As a local junior of Randwick, I applaud the steps the club is making

Assuming Siona Ala lining up on the bench in 2nd grade for Gordon is the same guy as the one that played on the wing for Manly a few years ago in 1st grade Gibbo?
