Thanks for the detailed info HJ.
I'm disappointed to see the convention of half backs being the worst offenders re pushing the limit is being regularly flouted. They rank last on the list of yellow card offenders (reserves excluded).

Hugh - thanks for the amendment. The guy is most likely one and the same. Not sure a judiciary suspension counts as 'stood down'.

Perhaps Cattledog can clarify.

Well you see Jujah there's punitive justice & restorative justice. Any good club has a combination of both when dealing with player ill discipline and creating a positive community. Below is what we did using this player as a vehicle for change.

The first rule of club discipline is to create a culture where the members own perceived fear of the possible consequences is a powerful tool in avoiding ever actually having to use them!

In this regards I make no apologies in creating a perception in our club and wider community that this player had been executed. Rest assured it was a means to an end.

Punitively - He had committed a grave offence and needed to be punished. We also had to be seen to be strongly addressing the concerns of the SRU (and wider community) in regards to ill discipline.

In colloquial terms he needed to be "flogged in very public way" to send a message to others in our community not to engage in this type of behaviour. Thus in response to the players red cards we told him & everyone else "He's gone" and banned him down from training & involvement in the club. Thus Clear & swift punitive justice.

I believe that this strong message sent to the rest of the playing group had the right effect as evidenced by the positive stories out of Easts, warringah, norths, etc. in regards to our attitude.

However, from a position of restorative justice we knew that at some stage we would need to address the issue of forgiveness & whether we would let this "18 yr old" player resume playing once his suspension had been served.

So nearing the end of his suspension & ban we formed a group of coaches & players discussed the matter and took a vote. Before the final vote the player was spoken to and asked why he thought he should return to the club. The player spook very sincerely about his desire to play again and once again apologized for his actions.

No the final vote was not unanimous (and I won't tell you how I voted) but the decision was made to let the player resume playing on the strict understanding that this was his last chance. The player was very grateful and felt that he had been given chance to redeem himself.

So there's the whole story - An outright lie, a white lie, or a means to an end (i'll let you decide).

However, I would add that we would look like a right pack of wankers if we knelt down for prayer at the end of each game and then didn't practice a little bit of forgiveness at other times!

Cheers

The other position I am surprised about is the Hooker. Until what appears could have been a robust discussion on ebay bidding tactics between the hookers in the Colts 2's between Uni and 2 Blues (both sinbinned), the Colts Hookers were angels (relatively speaking).

Does it matter?
FFS the poor bastards have one squad playing 2 games every week.
It would appear to me that whatever his status,he has learnt his lesson.
Let's just wait for another red card before we crank up the lynching mob.

Too right. One of the reasons that I take the time (not all that much is needed, now that all the formulas have been pasted into Lotus 123 on the Commodore 64) to assemble the stats on discipline is to have the facts in front of the forum. The public in general have a perception that Penrith and Parramatta are ill disciplined thugs, and they actively seek evidence to support that prejudice. Meanwhile similar acts from others are either ignored or put down as an isolated act of youthful exuberance.

One wonders why @Cattledog has to come on here to justify Emus actions in relation to their various cardings, yet there is no call for the Wicks (3 Red and 15 Yellow cards), Beasts (1 Red and 26 Yellow), Hobbits (2 Red and 25 Yellow Cards) aligned posters to have to explain what their clubs are doing to address on field discipline.

We are very lucky that @Cattledog and his team are doing their utmost to keep the flag waving in Sydney's outer west, and that he has been very open with us on this forum.

Rugby will not survive in Australia if only well spoken, gentlemanly private school educated boys and young adults from the Eastern and Northern Suburbs play it in an enclave bounded by the Coastline, Hornsby, Strathfield and Cronulla.

Bravo @Cattledog.

Well said, "oh herder of very large bovines". Don't even know the player's name, but if he played against Gordon last Saturday, then he certainly behaved himself.

I think there were only 3 yellow cards handed out, and the majority were "team yellows", when the frustration of not being able to stop the attack became too much.

IMHO, I reckon that Penrith is doing a great job with their squad - and they make the BEST Emu Burgers :)

Thanks Gentlemen,

This weekend 21.6.14 Penrith Colts host Southern Districts at NRP. In the first round the Souths Club displayed excellent hospitality by providing a light meal, refreshments, and a boat race in the post match function for all players.

This weekend Penrith Colts will return the favour with the PDJRU, Penrith seniors, & the Colts coaches, & managers all chipping in to cover the costs of the post game meal & festivities for the lads.

Next week 28.6.14 vs Warringah we have Back to Penrith Day & Juniors Day. This gala day will see the Colts & Grade play at NRP with colts at earlier times on NRP No.2 to allow the watching of First Grade. During First Grade there will be a colts function on the Hill for both Clubs hosted by the PDJRU.

At 1/2 time in First grade (if we can get them off the jumping castle) all local minis, local juniors, & PDJRU rep players in attendance will be called onto the field and recognized by the crowd. At this time the Penrith U12's will receive their State Champions plaques & present the NSWJRU U12 Championship Shield to the Senior Club.

Should be a good couple of weeks.

Cheers

Any scores from around the grounds...

Penrith Colts 2 lost to Souths 35 - 5
Penrith Colts 1 lost to Souths by +7 or +17 or +27.....

However, Apparently we smashed the boat race. So in reality we only lost 2 - 1.

Well done to Norths - setting a new benchmark! That's great for the competition!
@couldabeen - Uni still leaking points and didn't do enough this week to eclipse that effort! I wasn't at the games this week and my snout wasn't there either! Definite sensory deprivation today :(. But thanks for the update!
Anyone know how GPSrow's Gordon boys went ( 1st's & 2nd's )?

Cheers, Wreckless :)

Good day up at Nepean rugby oval between souths and Penrith
Its such a nice relaxing days rugby with easy car parking and quiet suroundings and good hosts plus an emu burger and Penrith selling the best coffee
The rugby results pretty much as expected and even from a opposition perspective it is frustrating watching Penrith show some really good skills and rugby ability but there overall fitness lets them down.
If they could get 50% fitter then they would be a strong team
They already have the size and speed but just cannot maintain the pressure
Souths are having a good season and the overiding factor is they have run a very very good Academy and worked very hard on fitness and strength and core skills.
November to end February they were doing 3 tough sessions a week
The players embraced the training which is the battle and if Penrith can get somsthing like this working Penrith will really go forward.

gordon firsts lost 34-30 to woods - seconds was a fair score in favour of the woods.

Besides the dangerous tackles, the high shots and non contested scrums I agree with you. And the after match function and hospitality was one of the best of the year on that note well done Penrith.

And the frustrating thing was that Gordon led in the Firsts for all but the last few minutes.
But the "really" frustrating thing, was that the last Woody try was scored 1 metre over the dead ball line. Chatswood Oval doesn't have a "marked" dead ball line, and only uses those "barber posts". The confusing thing is that there is a curved line running from those posts and follows the fenceline, pretty hard to make a decision - although the touchie made a valiant attempt to point this out to the ref

Not casting aspersions just stating the facts: a yellow card for dangerous tackle, a suspected jaw fracture and non contested scrums simple as that.
Want to go through and explain blow for blow the 30 odd cards from your boys so far this year?
That's an average of more than 2 a week, and you are bitching about playing against a side that incurred one?
