Warringah v Manly. Time for the Rats to get their season back on track. Match of the round, and the Marlins should win comfortably, but at home in front of a full Rat Park, I'm going the underdogs to sneak home by <5.

Nearly picked it.

Cracking game to watch.

Quote of the week:
Referee to Matt Lucas when he complained about Rats kicking the ball away after being penalised : "Well, why don't you get it then?"

"A few defence lapses"!! Bomber in the SS there is at least 500 defence lapses every weekend!!! I've always thought Treweek was a better 10 than a 15.
Well today's results prove that PM !!!

Increasingly looking like a 3rd derby for the season in the form of a home semi at Manly .

Through gritted teeth well done Rats

Uni too fast, too skillful - just too good for Parra in all grades today. The only positive was we took a bonus point in first grade.

Ok so ventured down to coogee oval today and got there with 20 minutes to play in twos. Randwick were down by about 20 but came home like a wet sail only to go down by 4. without seeing the first 60 it was hard to see how they could be down by so much so dominant were they. A dissapointing loss no doubt for the coaching staff.

Onto the main game.. In summary it ran a little like this, Randwick were horrible for the first 55 minutes of play. Riddled with poor handling and completely lacking any cohesion whats so ever. At this stage the wicks were down 19-6.

Around about the 56th minute mark something clicked, Horwitz started to take on the line a bit more, some classy touches and open field running from Kellaway and the afore mentioned Horwitz, a little more aggression at the breakdown from the wicks, some good forward interplay between harris and Toa and suddenly in 15 minutes we are in for 4 tries and playing some really good footy.

With 9 minutes to go and brought on by another handling error we let them back into the game and the good ball running 7 from Gordon goes in and then they score in the corner on the bell only to miss the kick for the draw.

Without being to critical, there were some fairly ordinary performances and Id like to see another 9 for the last two must win matches.

Positives:

I thought in the backs Will holes rees at 12 got over the advantage line well and looked dangerous for the duration. In the forwards Harris was pulling off some really good hits all game, Toa went all day and the scrum was probably the most pleasing aspect of the game for the wicks.

Horwitz and kellaway were really good in that 15 minute flurry but also guilty of some errors in the first 55.

They will have to replicate that 15 minutes for the full 80 minutes next week to be any chance of beating the rats

Exciting work by the Rats today, thoroughly deserved their win. Manly must eradicate the errors that were so evident today. It can be done!

Another day of champagne rugby today at Concord. 13 tries. That's $1.15 a try! I don't know what Easts are drinking at half time but it's not doing them any good. They let in 40 points in the 2nd half last week and 37 points today. How the hell Easts beat Manly is a complete mystery to me. I had to look it up again to make sure it was true.

Watched the Rats Marlins game when I got home and the Rats were very good. Fantastic game. I love watching SS games more than Super rugby. Up till now I've assumed Manly were almost certainties to win the comp but now I'm not so sure.

Manly should have won all three games, so will gain somewhere between 44 and 55 Championship points depending on 4 try bonus points.

The figures above are from NSW Rugby web site, although the Round 16 results from Rats vs Marlins Colts have not been entered. This will have a minor impact on the Colts Club Champs points as I anticipate a clean sweep from the Marlins. Will it be enough to claim 2nd place from the Woodies - 83 points needed - possibly.

What's left?
Next Week - Round 17 19/07/14
Eastern Suburbs v Parramatta
Penrith v West Harbour
Manly v Northern Suburbs
Sydney University v Gordon
Randwick v Warringah
Eastwood v Southern Districts

Last Week - Round 18 26/07/14
Gordon v Southern Districts
Manly v West Harbour
Northern Suburbs v Randwick
Penrith v Parramatta
Sydney University v Eastern Suburbs
Warringah v Eastwood

Some challenges there for the leading clubs and potential for the Order of Merit to change for the top three.

I stress I think the 2722, 2724, and the 2693 includes the colts. Then add 45 to the 2693, for the total. I think this because before the round started Manly was on 2614 in the rugby news, and wins in 3s and 2s took them to 2693.
