Wow this is ridiculous..I mean what did Johnny Wilder do to get left out? :p

Johnny is a great player, probably a bit old to get a gig as pro player now.
The great thing about Easts this year in particular has been the quality of performance by the lesser names or new faces ie Power, Campbell, Milosevic, Barker, Hormeia, having a competitive Prem Reserve has helped big time also.
When the Prems get all their players back for Finals they're will be some very good players pushed down.

It was tongue in cheek because you pretty much listed every Easts player.

As bias as I am, none of those possibles, except for maybe Jimmy Moore, will get a look in.

I do agree those players you mentioned, such as Milosevic & Campbell, have really stepped up. I hope our Reserve Grade do qualify for finals (sitting 4th from memory) because that side will have some quality players in it when our U20's and Reds players return.

Steph Van Der Walt at Souths should get a call up at NRC time. Tyrone Lefau and Luke Ferry at Wests would be two great bolters, Tim Smith won't be far away. I'm sure the Reds are making sure that the Tongan Thor will play as much NRC as possible to improve his scrummaging because he is outstanding around the field. McMillan from Bond is a cracking player.

I'd also like to see Scott Malolua, souths scrum half, get a look in.. James Turner outstanding as usual

How is Parker travelling this year? Haven't had a chance to look into his progress this year

Was uni's best in a poor performance vs GPS. Showed his speed, class and is as tough as they come (defensively was exceptional when all around him were slipping off tackles)

Does anyone know if Quirkie will finally get a run in his beloved blue & gold this weekend?

I have heard for weeks now that it was imminent.

Harry Parker has been playing some great footy and gave one of the few highlights for uni supporters on the weekend when he gave a flying Isaac weir a 15m head start in a 50 meter race chasing him down inches before the try line and then winning a penalty.
He has not been scoring try's at the usual rate he is renown for though (70 tries for the club in 4 and a bit seasons) but hopefully they come in the second part of the season.
With the NRC I wonder what the go will be re players who would benefit from playing for another franchise. Are they bound to who they played for last year?
Using Parker as an example could he go to country in hope of more game time this year or does he have to stay at City?

It was baffling last year how ten Easts players made the NRC and the club didn't even reach the finals. I hope this year there is a fairly even representation.

Although, Easts do deserve 10 + players this year.

Filth lets go through those Easts guys who were selected in the NRC and determine whether they should or should not have been selected and whether they got the job done:

1. Paraka - BC scored 2 tries in the GF;
2. Ready - BC played nearly every minute apart from one game Hanson played ;
3. Sanday - QC (Quade Cooper) didn't play due to injury - just selected in Fiji RWC squad;
4. Enever - QC (Quade Cooper) only play a few games due to injury - has received 3/4 S15 caps for Brumbies this year with more to come with the injury to Arnold;
5. Fattal - QC (Quade Cooper) - was a young guy getting some exposure;
6. Gunn - BC - can you really question his inclusion?
7. Wilkin - BC - can you really question his inclusion?
8. Mullins - BC - selected as a #9 but played @ #9, #10, #12 & #13 - played #12 in the GF;
9. Brandon - QC (Quade Cooper) - was a late call up to QC (Quade Cooper) because of the loss of Mike Harris and the fact that they thought they need his experience;
10. White - BC - played every game I think.

The only one who you could debate would be Brandon but he was selected in the QC (Quade Cooper) alongside Sam Greene - it is just that the QC (Quade Cooper) selectors went with Brandon. Greene was later flicked over as cover to the BC squad.

Retroactively justifying selections isn't really addressing Filth's point though. They did well and took their chances - you can't fault them - but based on form there might've been players from finals clubs last year who could feel hard done by.

Agree with Cat. Their form in the NRC is completely irrelevant in a discussion on whether they deserved to be picked in the first place. And trawling over old data really doesn't prove anything.

Cat_A and Sully most of these were Premiership players from 2013 did that not buy them any credit.

Just because their club side experienced a large player drain to Reds A & Qld/Aust U20, and some injuries during the course of the season which saw them narrowly miss a semi-final spot did not affect their individual talent and fact that they had proved in 2013 that they were capable of achieving success.

I don't want to or think I have to defend the fact that these guys were selected on merit.

Cat_A & Sully - I won't say anything further on the topic but seriously what QPR players do you think should have been selected ahead of these 10?

Which players "could (objectively) feel hard done by"?

You are just baiting me with these comments.

I agree that all those Easts players deserved their selections last season, with the exception of Brandon (and maybe Fattal).

How does the old saying go? " A team of champions doesn't make a champion team". I think that concept reflects Easts last season. Or when the Waratahs were struggling, and still made up a lot of the Wallabies. (Same theory).

Just because the team is on top, doesn't mean that automatically means more players deserve higher honours. Yes it does help, but I'm sure our Brothers posters will know that team success doesn't translate to players going into rep teams.

This season, GPS will still have several rep players. Sunnybank, even if they continue to slide, they'll have a large number as well.

I think it is a bit of shit stirring comment and a irelevant discussion, so maybe best to move on.

yeah, I'd agree with that 100%. Reading through the list I couldn't begrudge any of them. Plus they pretty much all performed.

FFS you won't see any criticism from any post I've ever written about team or squad selections, nor any comment on relative merits of X compared to Y - I thought I'd made that clear. They took their chances and did well.

Filth's point (from what I understood) was that teams that made finals should theoretically be fairly/ more evenly represented. There is absolutely no baiting in saying that it's easy to justify those players retrospectively.

My issue is not with the players, but with your rationale, TT. Yes, there should be (and there was) some recognition that comes from winning the comp the year earlier, but that wasn't in the post I was referring to. You read WAY more into my post than what was said.

As for the comment about players from other clubs feeling hard done by - it was hypothetically phrased for a reason - they COULD and they MIGHT - I don't know if they do. Again- just reflecting on Filth's post.
