Fuck oath.

But if you guys are happy with someone cynically infringing within 5 metres of their own line, fill your boots. Thompson made his All Black career out of that and being a good ball carrier.

I was at the game, and i thought it was a nice touch when a large portion of the crowd stood up and clapped when Will Genia came off the field for his last super rugby match.

Attritional first half - while the Tahs could keep that defensive pressure on the in the second half, the Reds couldn't.

The Tah pack did a great job nullifying Gill and Thompson at the breakdown after oranges. The Tahs also flattened up a fair bit and Foley got the pattern working.

As per usual we saw a few individual flashes of Brilliance from Cooper, but he couldn't orchestrate the Reds backline into anything vaguely threatening.

That's the difference between Foley and QC (Quade Cooper) at 10 - even the 2011 Reds backline was there as a platform for Cooper to perform off, whereas Foley is there to unlock the potential of those around him - including forward runners.

If Cooper had somebody actually running around him he could probably unlock some potential. The backline structure is fucking woeful.

That Dennis try was due to a great line by Dennis and foley taking the right option.

Cooper had very little chance to take the right option, as there seldom was somebody running that line.

that try of coopers was a corker as solo tries go. All you need to have on a highlight reel to sum up what he is capable of.

Cooper's biggest strength is taking the right option when presented with runners. It's much greater than his individual brilliance. I think Foley is probably better in that regard.

Last night, how many times did Cooper not take the right option when presented with runners though? He seldom was presented with running options inside and outside.

It's his job to direct the team. If he is not getting the runners then as the team playmaker and one of the senior members of the team he needs to fire a friggen rocket up the other player arses and get them moving.

The reds have been poorly coached and whatever structure they have been practicing has been next level stupid, but surely they are all smart and experienced enough to realise that they all need to be moving off the ball.

None of the players get free passes in all this mess imho.

Don't kid yourself Pfitzy. If Thomson was wearing blue you'd be saying that there was nothing in it. You probably think that Kepu's tackle on Kerevi was fine too.

So Foley is a player who unlocks the potential of players around him yet Quade is a player who uses the players around him to perform off?

This comment seems rather subjective and I can't quite grasp the concept, Quade's long passing game brings his outside backs into the game where other fly-halts can't, likewise Foley uses the dominant forward pack and his big outside backs as decoys for him to on occasion attack the line.

So mid game he should be directing the 5 backs outside him plus forwards where to go?

I get your point, and he should be providing direction, like hey Samu, get an overs line going outside of Carraro and I'll put you in the hole. But when everybody around you is just jogging alongside you not presenting themselves, where do you start?

I believe he should. That's his job.

It's very difficult when a group is down and lack motivation. The best place to start is to speak up and get vocal. Watch the good leaders (from any sport) when their team is down and they will suddenly start clapping their hands and calling out some shots and plays just to get the team's voice back.

The reds are particularly silent on the field this year and it shows.

I don't think that QC (Quade Cooper) is naturally that kind of guy, but he needs to be as he is clearly the guy that dictates the game for the reds.

If he adds that to his game he will be truly great imo because he will not only dominate when his team is on the front foot, but also when they are on the back foot.

I'd also like to see Quade play in a well drilled team. Not the rabble that came out of the sheds in the second half last night.

Is this intended to be bait?

Quade had a poor game but nothing NSW did was because of Foley.

I think Cooper could take a leaf out of Dan Carter's book to a degree. I think he needs to get involved more, but not necessarily to be making the big play when he does. Carter is often just shovelling it on to forward runners when the Crusaders are stringing phases together, but he's there with hands on the ball regularly, without being flashy. With Cooper hanging back a bit more while he waits (in vain, unfortunately) for opportunities to develop it's also a bit obvious to the defence what he is, or is not, about to do. I think Cooper with his hands on the ball more often would create a bit more doubt for oppositions. No-one else is making anything happen for the Reds, I think he just must be more involved.

well i think quade more accurately summed up the assessment of the reds performance last night when he decided to repeatedly kick deep. it spoke volumes about what was going on around him.
