I can't believe Michael Dowsett is eligible to play for Norths. Not only that I can't believe the coach selected him to play and remain on the pitch the entire game over Mitch Mcgrath who has been there all year. A dog act imo. No wonder so many players are seething and switch clubs when that is how they get treated. And let's be honest, Dowsett didn't play any better than MM would have anyway it's not like they're putting on TJ Perenara.

Are the eligibility rules of SS a total joke?
As contracted players of the Brumbies , Dowsett and Wells are required to play in the JID - the local ACT competition .
How can they possibly be eligible to then turn out in a semi- final for Norths . It's a farce.
I keep reading about special dispensation. Have we created some precedents which are now being used by clubs to make ineligible players , eligible.
Shall we have some special dispensation and totally ignore the player points rule. ?
And who has made the points system a complete farce for the past ten years?
I hope Dowsett & Wells can drag 4 or 5 of their brumby mates up to play next week, and totally towel up the students.
The irony would be delicious:)

As I said your post is indicative of someone with an axe to grind against the West Harbour club. I personally had no "unhappy campers' ? , I'm simply responding to your accusations against the club which clearly you know little about. If by "unhappy campers" you are referring to the two players who dropped out during the year, you should do a little homework, which would show you that these two players have a habit of moving from club to club & have done so several times in the past at other clubs, one of which includes the club which you indicate you support,Randwick. "unhappy campers" ,as you refer to them ,are present in every club ,as is evidenced by player movements between clubs every year. If ,as you claim, you are basing your condemnations of Wests on the fact that your "personal experiences at Wests are limited to those of a visitor" ,which incidentally sounds highly unlikely, then your knowledge of the club & it's workings should be judged accordingly, as should your comments.
I have heard that Todd Louden is taking over the role of head coach at Wests
Todd is an excellent cosch and doesn't take any crap. A great pick up for Wests

Tom Carter is an absolute disgrace. Firstly how is he even selected? It would be difficult to find any centre in the entire Shute Shield who isn't better than him. That means Uni must have about a dozen superior centres in lower grades and colts yet they wheel out this never was. I still like to imagine that Rugby upholds standards of sportsmanship,I know I'm being unrealistic but Carter is beyond the pale. I'd love to see him play against Tommy Raudonikis. I suspect we wouldn't hear a peep out of him.

Enjoyed the way Norths played. But can someone explain how and why Michael Dowsett and Michael Wells both turned out for Norths?

Dowsett was playing for Uni-Norths in Canberra as recently as last week and Wells was with the Brumbies up until last week. I thought players had to have played four games with the SS side to take part in the finals.

Wells has signed with the Tahs for next year, but what is Dowsett's status? Has he also signed for NSW?

Good to see Stephan van der Walt get game time too. He had a big impact in attack and defense for Norths.

Really enjoyed what I've seen from Norths this season. They play are up tempo, fluid attacking game backed with strong defensive play. For that, (and because its been 41 years since they won the Shield) I will be getting on the Northw bandwagon next weekend.

Having just finished watching the recording, there were several unsporting acts in the Uni-Rats Game that may end up in front of the Judiciary if there is a Match Video Reviewer/Citing Commissioner.

Tummy Carter wasn't the only party involved in driving a players head into the ground. Has Rats 21 a background in mungoball?

Quite impressed with young Swinton for The Corporation, who is making a fair account of himself in his first year of post-school rugby. He could do with getting a haircut as it would stop the opposition from pulling on his pony tail while others land sly little jabs on his melon. He seems to be a little fiery and may need to be careful not to get a reputation as a bloke that can be put off his game with a little niggle.

Kagiassis must be looking good for Rookie of the Year, and Gordon for the Catchpole medal.

The Corporation v The Shoremen should be a great Grand Final.

After Luke Holmes scored his try why did TC change course to deliberately have a confrontation? He copped one on the chin for his trouble but it's a pity it wasn't one from Mike Tyson. His conduct is totally unacceptable and he should be suspended.

Naturally Norths will be hoping he is not suspended because he is a very ordinary player these days and any replacement will be a big improvement.

Are the recordings available anywhere? I'm hearing alot about this TC incident but haven't seen it.

I don't , because there would be 4 or 5 Norths players who thoroughly deserve their chance to shine in a 1st Grade GF but would be denied if you had your way.
I think you missed my point.
The SS has a set of rules for the current season. When at the 11 th hour , we decide some are real rules but others can be waived then we risk the integrity of the competition. I don't care who wins next week as both teams play fantastic rugby .
If someone from Norths can explain how Dowsett and Wells are allowed to play it would be appreciated

I was otherwise occupied yesterday afternoon, so had the game recorded on the Foxtel IQ. There was a bit of niggle from both teams, as often happens at this time of the year, when for some teams there is no next week to miss.

Tummy should have known better as he is not unfamiliar with the concept of playing games in front of multiple cameras. He gives as good as he gets, and came in for some off the ball attention from the Rats, possibly as part of a tactic to put him off his game, and to get a reaction. Tummy's head bang on Rats 22 may have been out of frustration but it was not a good look, and rather unnecessary given that the game was more or less over and we'll and truly won. The Rats were bound for Mad Monday regardless of any consolation meat pie on the siren.

Everything seemed to have settled down a bit after the final Try, but the discussion intensified when David Hickey "intervened". That is when the Hair Pulling and punches started. Until then it was a discussion about this seasons handbag trends.

If your point is that it's fucking outrageous that a stack of pros come in, and replace the guys that played all year and got them there.
Then we are in furious agreement.
You don't see the irony in Uni being on the other side in this scenario?

OK, Carter's action was stupid and unnecessary, but pretty innocuous in the grand scheme of things. If it was someone other than him I doubt it would have even got a mention on these pages. I'm certainly no fan of his, but I agree with HJ (above) that Hickey's intervention is of much greater concern. Carter's could have been dismissed as "heat of the moment" stuff from someone who's passionate about his team, but Hickey's was after everyone had calmed down.

Having said that, they've both got form and have been treated too leniently by the officials in the past IMO.

As for Norths playing Dowsett and Wells, Uni certainly can't complain as they've been known to profit from S15 players being parachuted into the team in the playoffs in previous years having not appeared all year. In any case neither Dowsett nor Wells changed the outcome of today's game IMO. As I understand the competition rules they just have to have been registered at the club for the previous two years to qualify if unable to appear due to rep commitments.

33.2 A player shall not be eligible to play in a Finals Series fixture unless:
(a) The player has played with the Club a minimum of four rounds during the Minor Premiership series; or
(b) The player has been on representative duties during the current season and has played a minimum of two minor premiership matches in the current season at the same Club in which he is seeking eligibility, or has been a registered player with the club (according to the online registration system) without break for the previous two years.
(c) Players playing at an Australian Super Rugby Franchise that dictates the player must play in the local competition may lodge an eligibility appeal

What rep commitments? Cubelli and Powell have been the halves this year for the Brumbies.

You cannot seriously suggest that how well someone played in a game be a justification for or against them eligible to play?

My point regarding Dowsett playing is that it's incredibly unfair to the incumbent Mitch Mcgrath who's been there all year. The fact that Dowsett played the full 80 instead of 40 or 60 or even 70 is even more insulting. The fact that Dowsett is of similar ability to Mitch Mcgrath rubs salt into the wounds. A case where the coach thinks he's GOD and other people's feelings don't matter.

It was unneccessary action from the coach that you just know 99% of the players disagreed with. It's stuff like this why you see boys in different clubs at the start of the year.

To complicate matters, Clubs seem to be able to "loan" players to each other.

Back in the day, Drew Mitchell and Matt Giteau were seemingly registered with Balmain Rugby Club. I suspect this was a bit of a promotional stunt more than anything else, but they did play one match for them, another promotional stunt.
Most "proper" club games they played, when they were not required for Wallaby or Super Rugby duties were for Randwick, even in the season they played the exhibition match for Balmain.

For every hard and fast rule, there seems to be an exception.

Can't recall Mitchell or Giteau being parachuted into a Finals Game when they were with Balmain though.

I can't speak for the decision to play Dowsett, and yes I can understand the point you're making. But what I can say is that Crono's work at the club has been top notch. He's had an overwhelmingly positive impact from 1st grade down to 3rd grade colts in his two years here.
