Well, some of them come down and commit for the year (usually at Quins or Uni) but a lot of them come down for Super 20s then go back home.

They weigh up if they want to stay engaged with the Rebels (the ladder is shorter here, so they get more access to their coaches/facilities) or whether they want to play more competitive footy.

I think this will be the model in the long term, a lot of blokes playing Super 20s in ACT, WA, and Vic then playing their regular season in NSW or Qld.

Yeah, I get that part of it - I imagine a lot of Randwick boys are already (or will be) part of the NSW U20s set-up, as well as those moving inter-state, so they won't have all of their recruits available for the start of the season, but they'll have major issues when the players all become available again.

On the development side. We know many of these players will not face much of a challenge in 2nd grade colts next year but also who is coaching 2nd and 3rd grade colts at Randwick in 2017? Surely the coaches of most 1st grade sides are of a higher quality than 2nd grade coaches at any club. I wonder whether the players factor that into their decision.

Im going for the wix as an early tip to take out 2017, team sight unseen. I do know the have a new head coach, former norths backs coach, and a prop, matthews, who i think will be a standout. I thought wix were unlucky in 2016 so expect big things.
Any other major movements known?
2016 eastwood head coach now at norths. After his poor form at woods im loathe to understand norths decision, but each to his own.

Who are the Wix's new coaching staff and their track record?
They will have a good playing roster but will struggle to get under the points cap.

Experienced coaches don't grow on trees.

Except all those named in the ACT U20's squad are connected to or will be connected to local clubs.

The Eastwood coach, i am guessing you are refering to Grahame Stokes? had a very strong coaching record at Norths in grade and colts over 15 years. Because of maybe a bad year at Eastwood even though they made the finals in 1st colts does not make him a dud coach

Randwick will be strong but might have depth issues? and could any of there gun colts end up playing grade.
Uni will also be strong and i think a final 6 in no particular orderwill be Uni, Randwick, souths, Gordon, Easts and Warringah.

Interestingly you don't include Norths?

I would like to think the epic 1st Grade premiership would see an influx of young Colts, wanting to be part of a successful program .
There have been some colossal matches against Uni in recent years, none better than last years 1st Colts GF.

Great Colts GF and Norths should have won, Uni scrum won the game but a great advert for Colts Rugby.
Norths lose just about all of there 1st colts squad and 2017 will be a rebuild.
Norths have a good coach in Joel Rivers who will bring the players on nicely and could be very hard to beat in the 2nd half of the comp.
i thought Warringah could have a good season, i only saw them once in 2016 and they had some sharp backs and solid forwards and looked a young side who will improve but now the draw is out Warringah have a horrid run in who they play twice and the club will be a casualty of poor admin by NSWRU in how they organise the draw. I think Souths, Uni, Randwick and Gordon are definates for the top 6 with maybe Easts just behind, they lose a few quality players and depends if they can fill the holes.

Must have been early in his stint at the club as i cannot find anyone recently that says he was in colts coaching, but yes he was in grade. Either way, its a big challenge as i think norths for the past 4 years have been very competitive in colts footy.

He coached 1st colts 2015 and maybe 2014 and was 1st colts coach about 12 or so years ago when Norths made 2 or 3 1st Colts GF in a row but lost too Uni
I have Known Stokesy for about 25 years.
