I think it unfair to lay the blame at Woodcock's feet

the Knox forwards to me were completely outgunned

they missed someone like a Lachlan Swinton . to knock the wind out of the forwards punching up, on the edges

I am not sure where Frost normally jumps . but he was jumping at 4, and Joel Ellis pinched at least two lineouts jumping at 2

so the line-out didn't work . and that was where their game plan probably lay
.. the scrum wasn't much better, and ultimately Waverley had a mountain of possession

Yes Woodcock made a few mistakes . one kick went out on the full, but that was not helped by the strong and variable wind

what I will be interested to see in 2018 is Moretti's game

I saw games earlier in the year, when his own father was yelling for him to calm down

without a doubt Moretti has all the skill/athleticism, but a bit like Finn Wright probably needs to mature . and to become one of the senior players in 2018

so to put a positive spin . I think Finn Wright was fantastic in 2017, he improved in all the areas he needed to . he didn't continue to be a yellow card man, he played the whole 70 minutes, and improved his scrummaging, and maintained all the other great parts of his running game.

So if Waverley are to be as red hot in 2018, Moretti needs to do a Finn Wright, and go from good to great . just my opinion.

Knox as a whole felt pressure from every angle. Cornish everywhere all day. When was the last time the Knox line out looked fragile?
When was the last time the Knox forwards had holes punched straight through the middle of their ruck?
Without the Moretti sin bin Waverley would have easily cleared the 50 point mark. 15 against 14 was the only time Knox looked to have any chance.
With 2 great coaches directing Moretti as has been the case with Wright he will be the dominate player next season.

To be honest, I dont think it was necessary for you to be telling stories of how Moretti's father was yelling out to him to calm down.... etc etc.

It's a beat up to infer he's been out of control this year. On the contrary, his indiscretions during the last two seasons in the first XV have been isolated incidents. Maybe two yellow cards; big deal.

It looked to be a fairly innocuous indiscretion on Sat so its debatable whether he should have been carded in the first place.

Moretti, as with a multitude of schoolboy rugby players who have gone before him, has turned or is turning 17 this year. What 16 or 17 year old doesnt need to mature?

One of the reasons players like him are so good is because they possess natural aggression and competitiveness, so its understandable that on their journey from boyhood to manhood they will make mistakes and continue to learn and continue to be mentored along the way by their coaches and family members.

I bet Cornish, the Waverley coach with all his experience in coaching schoolboy rugby players, would like a dollar for every player he's seen come through the ranks and who has naturally matured along the way, some needing a bit more mentoring than others. The other bloke, Coleman is no slouch at man management either. It's what they do, as teachers I mean.

i doubt if they would be concerned at all about Moretti's on field discipline and aggression for next season. On the contrary, they would be rapt in his progress and see him like any other kid his age at the school.

The level of maturity between a Year 10 or Year 11 student to that of a Year 12 student can be enormous, as with their physical development.

And then nek minit they turn 18 and are old enough to vote and go to war.

Knox run of petrol at the end of the season, and not for the first time. Reckon they look over trained ...

You know i think there is something in that . I have watched the season unfold and there is definately an overemphasis on training. From Summer Season rugby where coaching staff told boys to basically give up other sports for rugby to be considered for selection in the firsts. NZ tours, season proper, injuries. Yes you are onto something there

also the dropping of players up and down like a yoyo this season between 1st, seconds, thirds , fourths concerns me. I can understand that this is part of the early season however i say boys dropped on the last game of the season because they were told that they wanted a more mobile pack for the last game

Anyway enough of a rant. Waves won fair and square and not only won but ruled! Good luck to Matt W over there coaching the Romanians .....im sure the rolling maul will be a key feature

Good news for Cranbrook. Rumour has it that he will be returning to the school next year for another chance to put on the white jersey

Has anyone checked on Backline Move lately.Has he left the country ? The juggernaut crashed and burned this year and he has been very quiet.Maybe he placed too much pressure on the Knox lads ? Talk is cheap BM.
