I was very impressed with Ben Murphy, he is a Yr 11 boy, who has played mostly in the back row. Moved into the front row and really held is own. As we all know the front row is something that takes time to develop in.

Just wanted to add to your comments, The incident where the SBHS "manager" went on the field happened right in front of where I was sitting and I have to say that I didn't notice any Pius officials on the field. Maybe he was a bit further downfield amongst the Pius players.

The word at Oxford Falls on Saturday was that Fraser Toohey and Alex Ironside had been selected in the ISA squad.

St Pius Report - Sat 17th May There was a last minute schedule change with Pius 1XV playing Shore 2nd XV, and Pius 2XV playing Sydney Boys High 1XV and Pius 3XV playing Sydney Boys High 2XV. Nobody seemed to how or why. Sydney High pumped the Pius teams in both games. Sydney High had a very...

I like the concept of playing a game/grade on a Friday night, maybe turn it into a "derby" type game. At least with the colts playing on a Friday night, the can get on the booze for the weekend rather than turn up on Sat with a hangover.

Many moons ago Port Hacking used to host the "Caltex Cup" on a Wed night during preseason. I was playing for another old 2nd division club and we used to love coming up against the 1st div clubs. (now Shute Shield). Some times we got flogged and sometimes we would jag a win. Yes guys would get...

I know a lot of people will not like this but we should have a "subbies cup" played mid week, organised along the lines you mention. It will be more even because, particularly in the early rounds, the top teams probably will play mixed grade teams, because of injuries and work commitments etc...

    Sydney Colts - 2014

My brother in law (an Easts tragic), was at the game, he was so impressed by the Penrith boys he couldn't stop talking about it.

"More thoughts on a geographic breakdown - might be better as a one-off knockout FA Cup style system" Not quite sure how this fits into the geographic structure?

I think you need a split comp. Div 1 (sydney wide, semi serious, 4/5 grade plus colts) promo/relegation to and from Div 2 (sydney wide, a little bit less serious 3 / 4 grade plus colts). Acknowledging the "cycle" other clubs can apply for Div 2, and/or existing Div 2 clubs can relinquish their...

It is almost as though you need a different approach for the big clubs in 1st and 2nd divisions and another approach for the smaller clubs in the lower divisions. I guess the motivations and operations of a 2 team club (bunch of guys from school, the pub, church wherever) is very different to...

You make some good points, Hevyd. I wonder if the issue of player payments over the years has contributed to this situation. Particularly when you read about whole teams moving on in return for payments. Just looking at the 5th grade Div 1 table and 3 out the 4 top teams, who have always had a...

Realistically no one on the Pius team played better than their Pats counterpart. Matt Kennedy for Pius has played a bit of 1st XV this year, tall and quick, but played out of position so had no real opportunities.

Pats vs Pius 16A, pats 24-5, (19-0 H/T). Pats extremely well drilled and structured, look like they will be a strong first XV in a couple of years. Strong nuggety centre (looks and runs like a league player), scored 2tries ( May have even been 3). Pius 1st half was characterised by missed...
