I believe NYU has a club rugby team associated with their business program, stranger things have happened.

The other benefit would be that players can earn more playing for the clubs that developed them. Hypothetically if you were a Two Blues junior, Two Blues could pay you more than Randwick could for the same salary cap hit. It would be huge for keeping less wealthy clubs competitive and stocked...

    Shute Shield 2025

It could be argued that the presence of high level foreign players helps with development and standard setting. The point where the snake might start eating its tail is when they're clustered at certain clubs and in sufficient numbers to crowd out Australia eligible talent. A solution might...

Loyalty is a two-way street. If a club has decided to be ruthlessly pragmatic about their own interests then you'd be foolish to not be similarly pragmatic about your own interests as a player. Especially if you have legitimate professional aspirations.

The pub argument could be made that winning QPR player of the year after never starting in Shute Shield means the QPR is a lower level of quality overall. Not saying I think that. There are plenty of reasons why players don't kick on in new environments, not all of them within their control.

Nicely done, my only quibble is the stripe across the back that seems a bit awkwardly placed. It's not visible here but shows up in other photos online.

It's damning that the response to Edmed playing NPC by Shute Shield clubs is to reflexively panic over their place in the rugby pecking order rather than evaluating ways to raise the standard of the Shute Shield comp. Rugby seems to be filled with this sort of provincialism even down to the...

The thing with building a competition around universities is that involving them might be more of a headache than it's worth. Many may not want a rugby team in the way that an American University has a D1 FBS football team. Most universities are currently aggressively shedding costs on the...

Cleary would be a world class 10 if he had spent most of the past years playing rugby instead of league. The physical gifts, intangibles, and work ethic are certainly there. But my gut feeling is that the subconscious "feel" you develop the manage the game as a league half will be a challenge...

Two coaches (one of them a recent RWC winner) wanting to jump ship on the eve of a tour screams that Borthwick learned the wrong lessons from his tenure as Eddie's protege. Forcing Felix Jones to stay and work remotely only reinforces my opinion. Why would you keep someone in the set-up who...

You'd have to further professionalize the Shute Shield and Hospital Cup comps separately before any sort of national club comp would be a viable replacement for Super Rugby. Very few are well-equipped to fully take on the burden of S/C, rehab, nutrition, or development that the Super Rugby clubs...

Yeah there was a massive crowd there to watch the AFL on tv and simultaneously a kid's birthday party on outside. Was encouraging to see amidst all the doom and gloom about rugby. Love that they've developed a revenue source that doesn't involve preying on the local gambling addicts.
