    CAS Rugby 2016

Received the Waverley school draw for this weekend's games v Aloys and very saddened to see that SAC only has two teams in 13s-16s and four in Opens. If one looks at the drop in numbers in subbies rugby as well then doesn't look good for player participation in the game. One of the benefits of...

    School sporting scholarships/recruitment

Yep, a quick look at last decade's worth of CAS swimming champs would indicate that such CAS scholarship largesse has somehow bypassed Waverley.

    School sporting scholarships/recruitment

Yep, and holding his own as a prop in the Waverley 3rd XV. Think change of school brought on by whatever reason.

Read the other thread. Very convincing argument with excellent and compelling evidentiary basis...NOT !!

Sounds pretty even then given Waves also not at full strength. Good effort from View to get close though.

Where did Dom Easy appear from ? Another Riverview product from the junior school or Year 7 ?

You missed out Waverley and Aloysius for some reason...

No problems there. The Knox rugby coach is a good example as is the Trinity aquatic centre and specialised swimming/athletics program. My point relates to the claim that the GPS/CAS gap is widening and my retort is that the gap largely exists because the makeup of GPS 1sts includes late-comers...

If Waverley could have built a $10 aquatic centre though, we would have been in there like Flynn. As would most other schools I imagine. Anyway, this is a rugby thread I thought.

You may well be right in certain CAS schools - the school fees in 2/3 of CAS schools would be equal to that of their GPS cousins. As a Waverley parent though I think I can confidently say that there aren't any rivers of sporting scholarship (or other) gold that flow through the school. What you...

There is that. And also, and I expect to be howled down here, some people want the social justice and help for less fortunate that some schools seek to instil in their students. The sport element often sits diagonally opposite to these lofty goals.

Not at all. Some kids from the start are actually attracted to rugby-playing (ie private) schools often because their dads think it's a good idea. GPS/CAS schools have much talent from U/13s as a consequence. What I'm saying is that in my experience, over and above the normal churn that occurs...

Don't have to speculate given New & Waves have already played - can you tell us the Newington v Waverley 16As score when they played just before the holidays ? That way we can test your 30+ assertion & other prognostications. btw I think you meant their, not there, respective, not respected...

    NSW AAGPS Rugby 2016

I think the reality is that the GPS/CAS gulf is wider at Opens than ever before but not below that. Think it reasonable to assume that the relative influx of talented rugby players who appear in GPS Opens makes the gap appear. Two years ago CAS 16s beat GPS 16s. In Opens two years later the CAS...

    CAS Rugby 2016

Partially that but also large boarder numbers helps to create an easy team dynamic and certainly makes organising training easier. Day boys only school spread all over Sydney poses some unique problems. Certainly weekly harder games is partially correct, but part of that comes from several new...

    CAS Rugby 2016

Waverley won 15-12 so I'm told. 16s probably more even CAS/GPS comp given relatively greater number of good rugby players who mysteriously appear in GPS teams from Opens onwards. Nearly w/o exception Waverley 15s/16s will be what make up the Opens, but not sure that holds for other, GPS, school...

    CAS Rugby 2016

This may seem strange but Waves shouldn't be too disheartened. Beaten by a clearly better team whose defence was excellent. But Waves had a long injury list coming into the game, which should lighten for next round. Waves defence quite good. Agree some 50:50 calls went home way which may have...

    CAS Rugby 2015

Mmmm. If the genie has been uncorked at Knox, why has it remained corked elsewhere ? I wonder why, given no other CAS school has followed the GPS 'buy a premiership' model that Knox parents and board felt there was a need to replicate the same in their part of the CAS ? As you say, parents can...

    CAS Rugby 2015

Fair point and certainly at Waverley any victory over the more economically-privileged schools (read everyone else) is sweet. I suppose my point concerns broader issues as to what type of board and what group of parents thinks that creating a behemoth and then winning a lot serves any purpose...
