    CAS Rugby 2015

I am a parent at Waverley and rugby numbers are strong, particularly in the lower years. I would wager that the school may also have the smallest intake bar St Aloysius given space issues, so the playing numbers are I think pretty Impressive. I'm not sure the reasons exactly but there are...

    CAS Rugby 2015

I would add that View scored on the bell at the end and Waverley missed two penalties from in front so even 17-10 did flatter. And given View only won 2nds 5-0 it points to better depth at Waverley than in the last few years. Today both teams were guilty of niggling each other which got the...

    NSW AAGPS Rugby 2015

Wouldn't pay too much attention to Jake the Riverview boys' ramblings (see the CAS thread). It was a strange day indeed and there were soooo many cards of both colours given it was hard to keep track of what went on. Riverview scored a try on the bell and Waverley missed two penalties in...

Dear Jake (the poorly spelling schoolboy), I think you mean urge, rather than Erge, and uncalled for, rather than uncalled. Do you mean 'I was subjected to', rather than 'had to tolerate' ? Looks like the Riverview English Department has got some work ahead of it.

I think you mean 'must have been watching..'

    CAS Rugby 2015

Either an angry parent or a schoolboy with poor grammar (throw, rather than through). I saw both 1s and 2s and, given that neither schools were at 'full strength' I thought that all today showed was that Waverley are stronger than in the last few years, or Riverview weaker, or both. I've never...

…and if you're happy for the ex-Wallaby maths teacher to coach the school's 15As then also be my guest.

    CAS Rugby 2014

As I said in a previous post, I think the win was a good exemplar for the CAS as a whole. It showed that professionalising sports programs doesn't necessarily guarantee success, which hopefully might (but is probably unlikely to) cause some parents to ask why they're forking out buckets of...

If you can find six ex-Wallabies who are qualified maths teachers then go for it….

    CAS Rugby 2014

You are right in saying that where they spend their money is their business, but they are part of an association so it has the potential to impact on others. Those of us whose schools choose not to go down that path should be free to point out the flaws in such an approach too rugby when it...

    CAS Rugby 2014

Absolutely correct. But the point is he is employed as a maths teacher and also coaches (albeit with a more impressive playing degree than most). He is now coaching the 15As which shows what you get from someone committed to the school and not just to a coaching contract.

Very tetchy there Brian. How Knox chooses to spend their considerable money is their business, but please don't for a minute think that other schools will 'eventually do the same'. Philosophically other schools (and the parents associated with those schools) see sport for what it is. A great...

    CAS Rugby 2014

By your logic Robbie Deans and Eddie Jones should have remained coaches of the Wallabies because it was the players' fault. They were employed to win and their team didn't so they got turfed. Same logic for professional coaches at schoolboy level. Waverley came second the last three years with...

    CAS Rugby 2014

Based on this previous tweet, I wonder what the reaction of the school is supposed to be when their hard-earned money is spent on professionalising the sports program, including paying for an ex-international coach and a NZ rugby tour only to see their prime rugby team fall to the school...

    CAS Rugby 2014

Sorry but that's not actually correct regarding school's a choice to increase student numbers, or that Waverley will be doing so in the near future. There is a natural limit that local councils set that goes to issues of parking etc. For schools that are built out with no room for expansion...

    CAS Rugby 2014

I have a few issues with this point of view. There are levels of professional coach and I would argue that Knox using an ex-international coach takes the kind of dollars that only a few other schools could afford. This type of professionalisation of sports programs at a few schools will...

    CAS Rugby 2014

Again at Waverley, it's worth noting that there are approx 50% more boys playing rugby from the 13s to the 16s, but there are more soccer than rugby players in the opens. The Waverley junior teams are going well in rugby, the opens not well. Sometimes mass has its own attraction, and at...

    CAS Rugby 2014

As I've said before, in my experience AFL are the most predatory, cashed-up and best organised of the winter sports. But the experience at Waverley (and happy for other schools to comment) is that the hit has been taken by soccer. The number of rugby teams at Waverley has actually increased...

    CAS Rugby 2014

Very much agree. A program is about much more than the firsts, and it should focus on encouraging participation as much as it does skills development. I would also add that schools are where most of tomorrow's rugby players come from and if the numbers drop here then it is the canary in the...

That wouldn't be the Ian Williams who attended Epping Boys High from Years 7-12 and played for the Australian schoolboys but then magically appeared for a second year in Year 12, this time at Cranbrook in 1982 ? Or was it another locally produced Cranbrook student by the name of Ian Williams who...
