    QLD GPS Rugby 2014

So you think a trial match of BBC boys on scholarship VS non- scholarship boys would be an even match- I'd like to see that. On other matters, recently discussed: I've seen a few of the videos from this year's games: it seems to me that it is not lack of heart or passion, but unforced turn...

    QLD GPS Rugby 2014

It comes down to basics: BBC clean out was not effective, too many players not going past the ball: resulting in TSS strong counter rucking: all leading to break down in support structures for BBC hit ups. TSS, on the other hand, hand better skill/discipline at the break down and were able to...

Yes, it was a 'welcome to 1st XV rugby' to some young players who are used to being stars: the BBC front row seemed to hold it's own or better, but the scrum appeared to lack shove from behind. But terrible lack of structure in the 1st 1/2.

Re: Terrace V BBC Trial Can't take too much from it: both teams short of a full 1st Xv side. BBC did not handle Terrace back-line at all. The BBC scrum was splitting the terrace front row but the ref kept short-arming them. The score 22-19? could have gone either way. A few injuries to BBC, an...

BBC have a bunch of rep Gold Coast players in their 1st XV: 1. Kahn Helms 2. Kareem Tuaga 3. Luke Peterson 5. Dylan Leyland 9. Max Dempsey I have heard number of them have personal reasons to ensure TSS are aware of this.

    QLD GPS Rugby 2014

I believe a few more will be available for this weekends trial against Terrace and the projections are for a full strength side for round one against TSS. Leyland has been nursing a groin for a few months so probably just wanted a light run, Peterson recovering from flue perhaps will plat a half...

In the wash-up of the rep trials, BBC scrum is looking strong. Especially if the can get Tuuga back on the paddock for the critical rounds against Nudgee and Churchie.

I'm guessing the team sheets still had him down as reserve to GPS1, but he played all three games as 9 for GPS3.

Rumour from the QLD Camp is that Dempsey was picked for the QLD squad but selectors got names and players mixed up.

Possibly, GPS3 did have a few week spots by the end of the day with some subs not quit up to the game, but their scrum was dominant (two tight head wins straight up). Dempsey organised well, (he'd have to be disappointed at not getting a place in a squad) and I though GPS3 better at the...

Agreed, in fact why didn't the selectors put the starting GPS1 front row on against GPS3? Luka, Mafi and Vui never had to give account of themselves against the boys who appeared suspiciously like the best scrum at the trials.

GPS 3 easily accounted for Chair XV 6 tries to nil. Lots of depth in GPS this year, the Chair XV looked potentially impressive but GPS structures were too good, dominant at the scrum and strong at the breakdown.

From BBC- Gunther appears certainly out. Christianson (tight head- GPS 3 Res) didn't train with GPS on Sunday- seems to have a broken hand. Peterson, (tight head) the only survivor from the ill-fated 2012 BBC 1st XV , was back training with GPS 3 and looks like playing in the State trials...

I think tribalism is not limited to any school... in the meantime I'm looking forward to an exciting season and perhaps a broadening in the power base of GPS rugby, with both Ippy (though there is questions on their depth) and BBC looking like they could mount a serious challenge for the title.

Don't State High pick up boys who want to play in the GPS comp but not any fees?? Ironically, I know of GPS rep players who approached BSH but were told they weren't interested- then got offered places at other GPSs.

Interesting Tuuga (BBC) got picked as a reserve hooker- if he trialled for flanker he would surely have made one of the teams.

That should be a good game, if the rep selections are anything to go by. Do you know what time and where.

    QLD GPS Rugby 2014

I gave GPS 1 a value of 6pts, GPS 2=5pts etc ... all the way down to GPS 3 reserves = 1 pt. Given that crude rating, the GPS selectors have rated the 9 GPS teams in this order, ACGS, NC, (clearly 1 & 2) then BBC and BSHS, a big step down to GT, IGS, TSS, TGS, with BG and very sorry looking...

    QLD GPS Rugby 2014

It would have to make more sense to have the players for 1,2 & 3 picked first, given they would get the most game time, then the reserves from 46th down: it is also closer to previous practice of selecting a reserve bench that can be used by each team. If you were a reserve for the 2nds but...
