Ballymore Redevelopment

From Matt Horan;

The stand will fit 3010 spectators (more than the old stand) and the view is pretty amazing. There is a lot of work going on behind the scenes to get it ready for opening mid-year, with our builders Buildcorp doing an amazing job.

The McLean Stand is only part of the development though. The National Rugby Training Centre in behind the stand is going to be a real gamechanger, not just for the Queensland Reds, but for all rugby in Queensland. It will provide the first home ever to the national women's Wallaroos side and create a new hub for coach and officials education with a 77-seat auditorium, meeting rooms and function spaces.

In behind the stand the old Field 3, which was basically a paddock with lines on it, has been stripped back and is being rebuilt to the exact dimensions as Suncorp Stadium, with new sports lighting. That creates for the first time three full-size, professional-standard fields at Ballymore which can now host national age-group championships, Sevens tournaments and other major events needing multiple pitches

So with all this redevelopment, will the capacity be the same?
Yes and no. The redeveloped McClean stand will be the same capacity.

They’ve removed the stand at the northern end, it won’t be getting replaced. Eastern Stand remains but isn’t for for purpose until they get another cash injection to upgrade it. The hill remains.

Despite what official crowd capacity might be, I’d say its realistic capacity after development is 8-10k, until more money is expect upgrading the eastern stand and surrounding ammenities.

How much will be the capacity with the full project? Once finished

You'd think about 10-12,000. 3000 in the McLean, 2500 in the Eastern Concourse below the stand and (at the moment) 5000 in the Eastern Stand. Another 1500-2000 idiots on the Hill, depending on whether it's a Brothers game or not :)
The old northern stand area is being turned into an open area for food trucks or club marquees, depending on the game. The Olympics would put up temporary stands over the northern area and the Hill.
The eventual capacity will depend on what happens to the Eastern Stand - a reno or a new stand entirely.

Looks great, but possibly the worst designed roof since the old SFS. Surely it should try to stop some rain or sun?

I wonder if this classification will help the push for funding to fix it up, rather than hinder
Certainly it helps in the sense that if something is to be done it will be done right. The big piece of the puzzle at the moment is probably what the Roar do, if they come back to Ballymore than that probably guarantees it'll get the funding for a rebuild.

I hear Redcliffe's looking for a team that actually wants to be associated with them. Redcliffe Roar does have a ring to it...

If you read the story I think you'll find it's not a "cap" but the capacity without the Eastern Stand being used (it's ...not exactly safe ). Using the lower concourse with the big "Ballymore" sign means you have about 5000 seats and another few thousand on the Hill etc.
If the Eastern Stand is knocked down and replaced then you've got about 8000 seats and a total capacity of about 12,000 (more if they stick up a temporary stand for big games on the northern end.
