Little surprised Italy aren't higher, was pretty impressed with their game against Samoa on weekend, they played some good rugby!

Italy hadn't won a Test since this time last year though. Winless in the 6 Nations, with losses to Samoa, Fiji and Japan in June.

Really good common sense shown by those who moved the Italy v Argentina game.

The Samoa situation is really depressing to read. The whole game of rugby should stand up and take responsibility.

I'd really love to see a global fund set up where by the Tier 1 nations can contribute to the development of the Tier 2 & Tier 3 nations. A small slice of each TV deal for the RWC, 6Ns, TRC, HEC, Challenge Cup, Super Rugby, Pro12, Premiership and Top14 should go into this fund.

The IRB could then dole the money out to the lower tiered nations with a proviso that their governance meets certain standards. There's no point giving the likes of the Samoan RU money to use at their discretion and then wondering why it disappeared into the same black hole as all their other funds.

A small slice of what those at the top table make would make a huge difference to the other rugby nations and would repay itself in time by opening new markets and giving the Tier 2 & 3 nations a more stable footing so that they could drive their own growth.

There is no way that the Italian field is the regulation size. Way to narrow and nearly no in goal area.

Argentina were good value for their win. Haimona had an excellent game for Italy and looks a real long term prospect in what has been a really weak position for them for a long time now.

When it came down to it Argentina had more quality in the backs and that paid off with their 2 tries. Italy looked to run out of ideas and found it hard to breach the Pumas' stubborn defence. It was telling that they decided to go for the drop goal at the end from so far out as they just weren't confident of making those extra metres that would have made the kick much easier.

The scrum contest in this game was really amazing and had even Joubert commenting on it on one of the occasions when the ball was in the middle of the channel and both teams gave it their all. On that occasion the scrum nor the ball moved for a full minute and it was the pitch that gave way. They left a couple of holes in the turf that a grave digger would have been proud of.

Not sure what the IRB can do with Samoa, Schwalger came out and said exactly the same thing after 2011 WC, and of course lost his spot in team.
One of problems seems to be Prime Minister appears to have a lot to do with running Samoan rugby, and if his petulant little spat in press yesterday was actually factual reporting, they are a basket case, hinting Samoan government may just divert funds from union to league if everyone doesn't toe the line would almost seem to me as giving league an invitation to see what they are prepared to pay someone!!

Ireland's points haven't changed, both England & Oz lost ground.

BTW, has anyone "done the math" on the result(s) & margins necessary for Oz to lose their 0.01 lead over England? I'm assuming England would have to beat Samoa by plenty & Oz lose, but by what relative PD?

56 minutes gone in ITA v SAF, 14th rank vs 2nd rank, and the Saffers only lead by 8 - 6. Yesterday, I would have said that if the Azzuri got within 25 points of the Saffers, they would have done well. Possible boil over coming up as a long range ITA PK attempt just drops under the bar.

59 minutes and a sense of normality returns as 9. Reinach dots down next to the posts for the Saffers to extend the lead to 15-6. 20 minutes to go.

79 minutes: Habana gets meat in the corner and Pollard converts from touch to take the final score to be SAF 22 - ITA 6 (HT SAF 8 - ITA 6).
SAF 22 (3T: Oosthuizen, Reinach, Habana; 2C: Pollard, 1 PG: Lambie) def ITA 6 (2PG: Haimona). (HT SAF 8 - ITA 6)
