My predictions this week across all grades:

1st XV:

Joeys vs Kings
Joeys will triumph over Kings comfortably at home. Final games for the year 12s will mean they will be extra fired up and the opportunity to become champions will increase their aspirations to dominate Kings.
Joeys 36 Kings 10
Scots vs Shore
Shore will defeat Scots at BH. Shore are in good spirits and are looking to top off a successful season over the under achieving Scots outfit.
Scots 17 Shore 28
Newington vs Riverview
Newington will rise in front of their old boys on old boy day and conquer Riverview. This Newington team will be looking to finish second place on the ladder and they will rise in front of a home crowd.
Newington 30 Riverview 15

2nd XV:
Joeys vs Kings
Prediction : Joeys defeat Kings 34-10
Scots vs Shore
Prediction : Shore upset Scots 24-21
Newington vs Riverview
Prediction : Riverview beat Newington 29-17

3rd XV:
Joeys vs Kings
Prediction : Joeys pump Kings 28-5
Scots vs Shore
Prediction : Shore defeat Scots 29-22
Riverview vs The Armidale School
Prediction : TAS upset Riverview 21-19
Grammar vs High
Prediction : Grammar defeat High 54-5
Great predicitions P&D.

I like the Shore results in particular, as well as Joeys and Kings in the 3rds. Shore will be strong and firing on all fronts and looking to take home the points and finish the succesful season on a high. Joeys will be gutted after not being able to beat View last week and will look to dominate the Kings team. I think myself and many others across Sydney will be supporting Shore this week.

mate, you seriously just decided that he is a better 10 based on the fact that Joey Fowler can play on both side of the sticks? Delusional‍♀️
Arghhh yes that’s correct.
All attacking structures now in RL have restricted both the half and 5/8 to one side of the field each. In that game they just get called halves now and it has stuffed their ability to play like the 5/8’s in league from the past. Just go and watch the halves from the 80 & 90s to now and you’ll see they roamed both sides in league as they do in Union. But the new focus on the spine and structures meaning each ‘halve’ has one side has changed it and some kids like Katoa have developed into one sided player and make better league players.

To my point again, Union thankfully for all its faults isn’t played that way so the 5/8 or No 10 whatever you wish to call them has to be able to play and run both ways. Fowler does it better both sides not just on the left. Again go and watch both players highlights and you’ll see it.

The best rugby 10 in Australian Schools is Joey Fowler by the length of a straight. Isaiya Katoa is the best league half back but definitely not a Union 10.
Fowler is equally strong left or right, watch Katoa or any highlights and 90% of what he does is on the left hand side of the sticks going left to right and that suits modern league, think of all the tries and what side they are scored by left side attacks nowadays. No doubt he is good but for a rugby 10, who at times reminds me of Steve Larkham I choose Fowler all day every day.

And I stick with my earlier thought that if the two teams were to play again, both at full strength I’d be picking Joeys.
I 100% agree. Fowler is the best 10 in Australia by a country mile. Scary thing is he is still only 17. Who will snatch him next yr?

Well, it's final week of GPS '22 and it wouldn't be G&GR forum this week without:

- Year 12 boys from multiple schools putting out good yarns about their mates in the 6ths getting a start in 2nds this week
- Mathematical calculations about if 'team A wins' and 'team b can beat team c' then Team A comes equal third in the premiership
- Passionate people doing their best to make the 16A's relevant again, a comp littered with hard done by kids and parents from underprivileged BMW X5 driving families
- Barker folk coming over and gloating about their big fish in a small pond trophy and greatest team ever assembled for the (insert number) year in a row.
- Quiet resentment from many schools that the Joeys resurgence from 2018 turned out to be a bit more than a passing phase
- Joeys old boys coming back to the forum to enjoy time in the sun
- Scots, Kings and New followers to debate the ripping up of the contract for their Head of Rugby
- Keen people jumping the gun on what will happen in 2023...

- And Joker manfully trying to remind everyone ...... "get your bloody tips in !" .... whilst enjoying the Joeys lap of honour week all the same.

Did I miss anything? Looking forward to it all
Guilty as charged. I am the Champion of Mathematical Calculations - If 'Team A wins' and 'Team B can beat Team C' ...

Super pumpd this weekend for Shore vs Scots. What an amazing result it would be if Shore 1s 2s and 3s could win. It would really set the platform for a high strength year of rugby in 2023.
I'm backing the shoremen in!
hey tarz,
also would love to see a shore breakthrough, one of the most contested GPS seasons that I can remember, love to see shore back in the mix of things.

Unfortunately in this case you're wrong. Have watched Katoa since he was 10 and trust me he's just as dangerous either side of the field in rugby. Not comparing who's better but just clarifying he can easily handle an opportunity wherever it is

both good players. Union purists will prefer Fowler. That is all.

He's obviously never had to tackle the Joeys cooking then.

Interesting conversation. I was at the Barker game. I took some joker bullets for opinions I expressed following that game.

It is true that at least 50% of the joeys side that played were still down with flu 2 days before. They had not recovered.
It is true that the joeys 5/8 was taken out legitimately in a heavy tackle pretty early in the first half. He was also playing poorly.
It is true that Barker were clearly the better side and the final score was a fair reflection of the game. Joeys lost their composure that game badly.
The Barker 10 did not impress me that much that day. the 13 was awesome.
At that time I made comment that Joeys were no certainty to win the comp. they played loose hi risk footy, had issues coming out of their 22 and had issues in defense. They had points in them but would give other teams a chance

Fast forward and they have become far more measured and fowler and hwi off the back of a very very hard working pack are the reason. Fowlers ability is really something to watch. beautiful hands and timing.

So, while we will never know because they wont play, I think that Barker played their hearts out that day, It meant a huge amount to them, but the team they played was not the team that has played the last 4 weeks. Would have been a great game.

joeys by 5
shore by 3
new by 7

not that it matters as I am not in the comp. but my thinking is:
kings will push hard to make a point.
scotts have little to play for but are talented shore have things to play for.
view played their final last weekend.
