After rising at 8am to the sounds of a Louis XV Special harp and the cultured sopranos from Kambala girls choir, the Scots boys gather on the ocean side porch to dine on fresh fruits, pancakes and specialised "milkshakes" all the way from the former USSR sports labs, now working for the Chinese Olympic team. Soon after their obligatory injections to help with the "muscle flabbiness" the boys all gather in the hyperbaric chamber for pilate stretching, interpretive dance and hot nude yoga. A light lunch of oysters, lobster, Fairy bread sandwiches (with suspiciously large large oval shaped pills) washed down with Chateau de Fuqup (look it up) makes way for the afternoon drill session. After a short helicopter ride, the boys arrive on the back lawns of the Frank Lowy estate. Here the boys must be careful to not disturb the pink flamingos and peacocks which stroll around the manicured grounds. Afterwards, they enjoy a quick communal shower in the waterfalls of Perputual smugness. Cocktails are then consumed and dinner is served all the while wearing their latest Italian black tie that mummy bought after her latest jaunt to Rome with her tennis coach. Dishes such as roast baby fur seal, rack of Siberian tiger and casserole rhino are all washed down with "Uncle Mings" special feel good "juice". For afters, it is off to the lounge to smoke cigars and to congratulate themselves on how incredibly awesome they are. Soon the bedtime gong is rung by the captured Cranbrook boy and it is off to bed, being dressed of course in the silk pajamas daddy gave them. As they lay on the Sferra Capri Honey Egyptian Cotton Sateen sheets covered in a Scooms Hungarian goose down duvet the boys dream of world domination as Uncle Camembert told them so.

Sacking the coaches the day he arrived was an exaggeration, when arriving he understood that the rugby program was in a bad place. After repetitive complaints from players and parents about the coaches prior to his arrival, I understand he had a meeting with the coaches and both of them resigned after that meeting. New coaches were put in place as well as a new head of rugby, and shore rugby from that day has only been getting stronger.

In the firsts it was a big win for shore, not 100% of the score line but pretty sure it was 58-20. In the seconds it was a draw even though Cranbrook were with 14 men for the majority of the match. The 16A’s game was called off.

I don't think his size is one of his main attributes, he's not small he's certainly above average but he's not huge and hes certainly not big while playing against 15s players. His main physical attribute is his speed but he's still easily one of the strongest in 14s gps and has 10/10 ball skills. His older brother is much bigger than him.

As a Teacher ,First, that number sounds a bit like an overkill.I don't think there would be that many jobs at our independent schools, going around
and being applied for.Yes, pay, holidays and working conditions are far better, than government schools.But more is asked of private school Teachers.For instance, the coaching of Rugby teams as a winter sport, is just one.Most Rugby Teams will be coached by one teacher. Therefore ,the coach needs to be knowledgeable about forwards and backs, often at the same time.Also, employment can entail Boarding House Duties.
Academic standards must be maintained as well. So employment at these schools can be most demanding and many teachersI, will refrain from seeking employment at them..Particularly, those who are fearful of the emotional and physical demands of a dedicated Rugby School. In fact one of the issues Independent Schools face, is the ability to find highly motivated teachers, who wish to coach after school, particularly, Rugby.
Most teachers find it easier to coach soccer. Less commitment, just give the boys a soccer ball and they kick the ball around for 90 Minutes. And call that training. Whereas, Rugby coaching is far more demanding. Selection of boys with the right physical shape, particularly, for the forwards, is a first up task of any Rugby Coach. Followed by getting body height, binding and the skills of Rucking and Mauling. Of course there all the other skills a Rugby Coach must master as well.
So choosing staff can be a daunting task. A just good classroom teacher, will be insufficient for a private schools. Even Sydney Grammar, needs to choose teachers for extra-curricular activities. So any journalist, covering the selection of teachers, will need to be "spot on" in any commentary about the selection of Teachers. Particularly, as effective teaching and quantity learning, is a individual concept. I fear, Joker, that we will get a lot of "professional Wantbees" making superficial Judgements.

As a former staff member at the Death Star, my employment was helped by two facts.
1. I was a AAGPS Old Boy so I "got" the whole masculine education ethos.
2. I could coach rugby,
This really drove the staff acquisitions for years and the school was able to have well educated in rugby verse staff able to coach every team. Plenty of Old Boys on staff plus the occasional AAGPS old boy (I was the first Joeys Old Boy on staff) The 1st XV was coached by a Geography teacher, Science teacher and Metal Technology teacher. No premierships since the crime of 1993, but they tried and it was "worthy of their forefathers" Then....the changes came.
HR was soon outsourced by the management to a more modern system and the staff soon reflected the "diversity" of society and not the culture of the Death Star. Early female staff employed could coach rugby but soon the College employed staff with extensive knowledge of lesbian dance theory, netball and interpretative Pilates. The result was the number of staff coaching rugby dropped dramatically. Only some older souls like myself continued. In my final year at The College I was the only staff member within my age group of five teams. The other teams were coached by hired gun from some sports coaching company. These were young people, with little understanding of the students and most never learned much (including names) about their charges. Results plummeted and the senior team suffered.
Then the College embarked on finding top quality 1st XV coaches (and players.....and that is all I will say) who could teach a bit but pay them above the award wage so they can spend more time solving defensive patterns rather than solving algebra problems. The emphasis was placed upon ONE team.
I left during the era of M. Blackburn who once told me, "you must coach your team to play this style. If they lose, I don't care but I need your players in 3 years who can play MY style." After losing the first 5 games under HIS style, I eventually gave up and played the style that worked for me with the cattle I had and we won our final four games including beating Joeys. I was given a proper chewing out at season end when he found out I had ignored his orders. That was my cue to exit the College and find kinder, more enlightened pastures elsewhere.

The improvement of rugby at Shore is good for GPS Rugby. But I suspect it goes beyond the coaching of the 1st XV. A whole school approach is needed. But, I believe the School is now headed in the right direction. Time will tell

Rising at 4am, as is the Shore boy code, the players check their email to see if the school has appointed another new Headmaster overnight. A quick breakfast of raw eggs, raw steak and raw bacon and a glass of Al Colombo orange juice the lads head to the playing fields for some rugby drills These are usually carried out in the traditional part of the field that all Shore teams know well, the in-goal area, mainly behind the posts. The greenkeepers at Northbridge spend countless hours keeping the in-goal areas manicured as they do receive far too much wear and tear. When allowed to venture onto the ground proper the lads do sprint drills such as “quick, mum is driving off in the Bentley….”, the ever popular “did you hear there is drunk Wenona girl at the Greenwood?” and the best one yet, “they are having a 60% sale at R.M Williams!” sprints. Lunch is served the from boot of Barclay Mortimer's mummy's new Land rover. Being Shore the lads they are spoilt for choice with Chunky Chilli Beef And Cheese Meat pie, Pork pie with Hot water crust, Tourtière: A French-Canadian pie for the exchange students and the always favourite, Puerto Rican Baked Empanadas (mainly to impress the Monte girls) After lunch the boys are bused to their daily Tim Thorton Hypnosis & Hypnotherapy session to deal with the decade long mental scarring as inflicted upon them by previous 1st XV’s. Dinner is usually left to a scavengers hunt with easy to achieve goals like “steal a fat kids Maccas” or “snatch Subway wrap from a school girl” proving popular. A couple of late night drinks at “The Dry Cleaners” and it is off to bed, serenaded with the gentle, guiding words of Rev. Kanishka Raffe to soothe their souls.
