Strong side. Is Cormac Kelly in year 12 this year or was it last year? He’s a good prop.
Cormac is in year 12 this year, but with the hooker from last year changing his position to prop to allow a year 11 hooker in the squad, he misses out.

He may be a possible swap for Ewen Mcbean but I believe Ewen has the edge over him.

ITS BACK!

After an incredible 2022 season it, all came to the final round and through sheer luck or the intervention of Our Lady a couple of props came out on top. So how does this work.

TIPPING RULES.

Competition is open to all but it is a commitment. Be ready for a long season this year.
Each week you will have till close of business on FRIDAY to either message me or post your tips.
This is done by simply stating who will win and by how much. (this is where you get the points)

So how do the points get awarded?

1 for a draw

3 points for the win

5 points if the win is achieved between 1-5 points over your margin spread

10 points if you tip the exact margin

20 points if you tip the exact score (including a drawn score)

There were once five tippers from Sydney’s north shore. They gave me their tips for the weekend on this game Shore v Scots at the Highland plains.

Final score

Shore 32 Scots 0 (Shore wins +32)

NamePick and marginPoints won
BiffShore +53 (His team won)
TaddShore +305 (he was within 5 points margin spread and did not go over
SterlingShore +3210 (exact margin
MagnusShore +363 (his predicted margin was beyond the 5 point margin spread)
ChadShore 20-20 all0 (This is the hardest and no one has done this)

Please message me your tips ASAP during the week.

Tips are kept secret and then will be made public on Saturday morning for all to see.

NO CHANGES ALLOWED.

NO TIPS accepted on Saturday.

Q&A

What happens if I don’t get my tips in?

You are given the visiting TEAM. No margin is recorded. There have been weekends where all the visiting teams have won so the best you can get is 3 points per game.

Why do you have the points margin spread?

This keeps it interesting. Some players have a habit of getting the margin spread correct and hence can earn some big points in a round (Last year I have a major final round.

When do this competition’s entries close?

Saturday 13 May. It will start on 29 April though. Gives you a chance to have a look at this.

NO one enters after 13/5/2023

Will there be tipping for 2nd and 3rd grade?

No

Why?

Because this is a labour of love and with 10 rounds this season it will take up a lot of my free time. Adding more grades impossible.

What about CAS?

Unless they are playing a AAGPS school I will not be covering their season. They can go and play in their sandbox.

Show me an example?

Here is a round from last season.. You will season columns on the right. 2nd from the right is how many points were scored that round by the tippers and the column on the far right is the progress score.

Joker, my tipping is usually like George Pell's love life. But in the words of the Great Joey's 1XV 1998 Capt Michael Lipman "Is it in? I think I'm in?" So count me in

Score predictions for game tomorow?
I think View are in for a tough game tomorrow. The likes of fakafanua, Lokeni, and tonga will be too much to handle. however view 9/10 combo are strong so could see some good back and forth rugby

my pick to win the comp. They have a squad full of talent and depth which will help for the 2 comp season.

star player Tonga is one to watch for the season but will be watching from the sidelines for the first couple of trials due to his injury from his Aus 7s games in Fiji.

Here is 3 players to watch in the forward and backs.

Fowards.

Edwin langi - big and strong ball carrier quick on his feet. (Under 16s Aus)

Austin dubriage - considered to be almost the perfect schoolboy 7 must work on his speed though.
(nsw under 18s 2nd xv side)

Bailey Park - continually has shown for 2 years he is willing to do the dirty work. Himself and lipptiana Atta are in a 2 way race for the Gps 1s spot. (Nsw under 18s 2ndxv)

backs to watch

hadely tonga - name speaks for itself

Boston Fakafunu - strong ball carrier with great game knowledge and passing ability. Could play anywhere from 10,12 or 15. (Nsw 2nd xv under 18s)

tyrese lokeni - again a great ball carrying centre, big and mobile. looking to improve from his efforts last year which lead to him being droppped from 1st xv in a controversial decision which personally i disagreed with. (Nsw 18s 2nd xv, Aus 7s 2nd xv barbs side at world schools)

Luke maroun - saw this kid play last year in harrold Matt’s and he was outstanding. He’s up for a big year after sitting out due to injury last season.
Nice write up.

Boston Fakafonua can really play. More might be spoken of Tonga, Langi and they deserve it but Boston has professional footy written all over him. We often see players who are utterly dominant in one dimension of the game and it can get you a really long way even at the Schoolboy level but it gets found out in the Grade System very quickly. The kid can kick, pass, run with the best of them and with a number of good individuals in the backline it may lead to a lot of 1v1 situations that over the course of a match they will win more than they lose.

Beating Kings will need a drilled pack and field position. Don't make it a shoot out.

Any idea how strong Daramalan are?
Crashy

If you have any Barker contacts, they played them at Hornsby on Sat 18th March.

I believe Daramalan have trials (u13-u18) against Shore tomorrow at Northbridge

I believe the Kings lineup for the trial against view
1. Ashdown (1st 2022)
2. Park (1st and GPS 2)
3. Titi (2nd)
4. LangI (2nd and u16 NSW)
5. Barber (2nd)
6. Webster (1st and GPS white)
7. Durbridge (1st and GPS 2)
8. Miln (2nd though started in 1)
9. Smith (3rd)
10. McLachlan (2nd)
11. Yaffa
12, Fakafanua (1st)
13. Lokeni (2nd though started in 1)
14. Ramraj (1st)
15. Maroun (injured in 2022)

Some interesting choices and obviously Tonga still recovering from injury. No doubt there could still be few changes with some players obviously moved with Langi dropping back from the front row and Webster being moved to 6. Also a few kids in the 2’s that will be pushing for a position with Wait (1st 2022), Watts (2nd and u16 NSW) obviously unlucky to miss out.
