I agree, they are a fantastic schoolboy team, I do enjoy watching them play, and will continue to watch them, because I enjoy the game and consider rugby the ultimate team sport, but get real, the current and previous couple of years' teams have simply been a veneer of the long and proud school tradition and a tangent to the schools real character.

Good for Grammar, more depressing news for Shore.

I thought Shore did fine.
When the game could have got away from them - 2nd half - they held grammar to 5 all.
Its not to be forgotten that the Grammar 1sts are the figurehead of rugby at the school and are playing for credibility every week: those are handy motivators.

Scots putting on 80 is as counterproductive as grammar soundly defeating shore thirds. The proud scots parents on this thread should immediately support their school changing its entrenched position on the creation of a divisionalised GPS,CAS and ISA comp immediately. There can be no proper basis for opposing it if you want to maintain an elite rugby culture. Let those in the GPS who don't want that culture get back to playing first xv teams at 3 15 pm.

But Riverview do give Bursaries.
Whatever schools choose to call their assistance, at the end of the day it means kids who wouldn't otherwise go to the school, now do.

There are two kids on bursaries in the current firsts for Riverview. One has been signed up since 2007, and the other has spent most of his rugby life down in the d's, e's and f's. They provide bursaries for over 30 boys and only a fraction are standouts in any sport.

Heard strong rumblings yesterday that Shore is very unhappy about the current situation, this format is doomed to fail if it ends-up a 5 teams comp. The injuries coming out of the games vs New & Scots are a major concern.

Perhpas George Smith might be able to provide some more info on these injuries ??

Understand that Shore's injury plight has eventuated across the saeson as a whole, with a significant number resulting from their trip to Southport during the last school holidays....slightly disengenous to seek to aportion the "blame" solely to the New & Scots matches I feel....

Fair enough, but that was from a Shore parent yesterday, with impecable credentials

Shore's troubles is that selections always too political. We hear every year Shore 2's pump their 1's. They're 1's are not a bad team but had no answers to Kellaway and Kamp. Scots good fortune. But because sport shouldn't be political it's only right Shore went down big time.

View 45 - Joeys 20

Exciting game of rugby, with debutants Barker, Mackaness and Drennan all cementing their spot in the team with fantastic performances. A great team effort from View as opposed to their performance last which seemed disjointed and ill-disciplined. They were strong in defence and very dangerous in attack, surprisingly from both backs and forwards for a change! Overall didn't seem to do too much wrong!

Not to take any credit from View, Joeys weren't playing there best game of footy. Were often found missing in defence leading to exploited gaps and not finishing tackles saw them within their own 22 time and time again.

For View: Number 8 and captain, Hunt, had a fantastic game, one the best I've seen him play. He was unstoppable and looked a league above, until sadly his day ended with injury. Hutchison (13) was absolutely menacing in both attack and defence. Freeman (15) also had a superb game, finding his way out of some very sticky situations, as well as slotting some tough sideline kicks. Great game also for 14 Sean Drennan - 1 try and 2 try assists.

For Joeys: Captain Sandell (3) again carried much of the team on his shoulders, leading the side around the breakdown and was by far the best ball-runner for Joeys. Hanigan (8) was on-and-off throughout the game showing signs of brilliance. The backs really missed a domineering Deegan at 10, however Bailey was a standout at 15

Will leave the rest for LG :)

Completely off the mark and no proof whatsoever, just a vicious rumour. All GPS schools get complaints from parents about their sons not making it into the 1sts but now one listens because:
1. All schools want to be trotting out their best for the 1sts since it is the most viewed and talked about matches of GPS rugby
2. Kids are happy to play 2nds because their mates come early, stick around for the 1sts and you essentially get the same treatment as the 1s.
3. Surely by that logic sure would have at least pumped the 2nds competition if they were trotting out a "1sts calibre" team?

"Scots good fortune. But because sport shouldn't be political it's only right Shore went down big time." - Not quite sure what you're suggesting in "good fortune" ;)

Proof will be if they do not make changes for next week. Shore 2's had a good game. If spots in 1's can't be fought then for Shore is dudding itself. Kid's maybe happy to play 2's but not the parents.

Yes exactly. And it should be the responsibility of the Team management staff to handle these injuries and to decrease the chances of them happening. I for a fact can notice the number of New injuries has gone down in the past 3 years due to Stretching before and after each training session, the use of recovery aids such as Up and Go's and ice baths after every home fixture.

Maybe it was just a bad year for Shore this year and could've happened to any school. But this should not mean that Shore are like Grammar or High in results. Years upon years of losses will then be suffice to compare them.

Good performance by grammar overall. Gorry was fantastic , the 10 (Mackie) and 12 (Sheldon) likewise were very good. The latter 2 giving the outside backs plenty of quality opportunities . Gorry dominated the pigs. I see the problem for the competition is these are not 3rds standard players.
