The more I think about it the more I like the idea of including Taranaki & Manawatu in an eight-team playoff series, I can see 'naki tipping over pretty much anyone on any given day. Manawatu not so much but wouldn't be embarrassed.

No promotion/ relegation between Prem & Champ which unless they're planning on scrapping those divisions is imo an injustice. Edit: unsurprisingly, this bloke agrees:

Hamilton still in L3 so Waikato v Taranaki will have to be shifted, haven't seen where to yet (Mooloos are currently based in Tauranga, BoP are away this week so maybe Tauranga Domain?)

This is just getting silly now, every Prem team bar Tasman (but incl Aux!) has been gifted two points, promoting Mooloos to second, likewise every team in the Champ incl Harbour & C-M. Hard to disagree with Barnes' view that NZR have utterly fucked this up.

To be honest WOB, that's what I would of done, matches can't be played so have to call them a draw. either that or you would have to take the points of Tasman for beating them first up, which would be unfair.

I thought Barnes' suggestions that the competition revert to one table had more merit than his complaints about a lack of promotion this year

I'll wargame it tomorrow but my gut feeling is they could've treated the three matches NH, Aux & CM played (NH & CM also played each other) as non-comp, disregarded the points & topped up the crossover matches as necessary. Only potential flaw I can see is if there was a Prem team due to play both NH & CM.

^ ordinarily I'd have been neutral but I wanted a 'naki win just to show how stoopid NZR's handling of this has been. First Championship side to go 4/4 v Premiership opposition in a season, only unbeaten team in either division, not much more they can do, really, except of course stay in the Championship.

Hawke's Bay on fire in CheeChee, Enari celebrating his Moana Pasifika contract by tearing the Cantabs several new ones. McClutchie not far behind but geez that try of his was dodgy-as, had to be a knock-on but lucky for him the ref's call was try & the k-o was obscured on replay.

Word is championship/premiership gone next year, they looking at just one division it seems.
