Thought the Shield mighta been heading up SH1 for a while there, then a Harbour guy dropped it over the line at 15-19 & Waikato started using the wind like Harbour shoulda in the first 40.

Manawatu challenge next week, Taranaki in Round 5 then Cantabs roll into town to reclaim it on 28 Sep so in theory Harbour could get another challenge in Round 8.......

Heartland Championship Round 2 fixtures this Saturday:

Buller v Mid Canty, Westport
East Coast v Wanganui, Ruatoria (do they still have the after-match hangi & boil up plus crayfish, paua & kina ? Best hosts ever IMO).
King Country v Poverty Bay, Taupo
North Otago v Thames Valley, Oamaru
West Coast v South Canty, Geymouth
Horowhenua-Kapiti v Wairarapa Bush, Westpac Stadium, Wellington (I hear they're hoping more than 500 stick around for Pussycats v Harbour straight afterwards :))

You right about East Coast's aftermatch, and good to see it is now aftermatch, mate that played for the Mighty Nua in theearly 80s always loved going to Ruatoria to play, said the visiting team was always treated to Hangi and beers the night BEFORE a game too!!:D

Yeah, I remember Jimmy Barker reminiscing about those days too, so clearly the practice continued into at least the early 90's. Thinking back it may have been Tologa Bay we went to (in a minibus, the main supporters bus being full) somewhere between 1988 when I moved back to Levin & 1993/4 when I got involved with the Club. Great trip from the little I recall of it!

Good news for the provinces but better for the AB going forward that some of the guys with head knocks etc are becoming available again.

Not a bad game that one tonight. Some nice ball playing from both sides. Highlight of the game was Macalai trying to put a replacement jersey on and the ball came down his wing and he's had to chase after the ball with it half on.

Next Friday's Counties Manukau v Wellington fixture will be the first for the Jonah Lomu Memorial Trophy which, obviously, is pretty much a big "11":

Counties will also wear retro jerseys for the occasion.

Good win for Tasman this afternoon, i thought they were gone for all money at half time, but Taranaki lost the plot and Tasman found it!

Also a good game between Wellington & Harbour with the Wellingtonians prevailing at the end.

Its great having quality rugby to watch when there are no internationals! Watched a bit of a couple of Aviva Cup games, but its pretty ponderous rugby. I did flick over to the NRC, but its like watching 3rd grade Darwin club rugby!!

Work playing havoc with my viewing schedule this week but on the upside I've a shitload of recorded games to wade through tomorrow. Plus Taniwha v Cantabs is about to kick off so I'm as happy as a porcine in the proverbial.

It appears the mighty 'nua have fallen victim to yet another travesty of injustice, allegedly beaten by Wairarapa Bush at Westpac. I'm reliably informed 80% of the crowd walked out in protest.

And the Nua game apparently was on tv WOB, so no doubt 80% of the viewers would of switched off too after seeing what you and I know ,without having seen it, or talked to anyone that did, a complete and utter travesty of justice;)!! Oh when will they see what they are doing to the game by not letting the Mighty NUA win everything!!!

As an aside WOB I see Nua has a player that was playing for England 7s, must have found a generous sponsor!!

^^^^^^^ Lahmert's a Waikanae boy originally & pretty sure he has a brother in the playing group as well. So more of a homecoming than a marquee signing.
